Vacuum relief valve VV is installed on cargo storage tanks, and intended

to relieve excessive internal vacuum created by thermal variation and
product movement out of tank. The VV is furnished with flame screens
to provide promotion against excessive vacuum while accidental ignition
of flammable product vapor from external sources.
The device is satisfied by rules in accordance with IMO MSC/Circ.677
requirement Inter National Standard ISO 15364 : 2000.

(1) Vacuum relief valve VV consist of body with connection flange at side-
wise, cover, valve disc, flame screen, dash plate, lifting check handle.

(2) When the vacuum in tank reaches the resetting at which the valve is
open, the atmospheric pressure on the internal disc area overcomes to
disc loading weight. As flame screen are fitted at vacuum inlets, it can
prevent the passage of flame into a cargo tank.

(3) Dash plate protected screens is combined with preventing from sea,
wave for screen.

(4) We can confirm operation of valve through N (normal), O (open) of

indicator by handling of check lift lever.

(5) The device protecting cargo tanks containing crude oil, Petroleum
products and flammable chemicals.
Please be careful, do not use for Chemical Tankers dedicated to the
carriage of products with MESG less than 0.9 mm.

A: Place of installation
Proper wide space for working should be arranged to keep safety.
※ in case of mounting on high position, fence and deck by means of
protection should be specifically provided to around them.

B: Pipe work
(1) Use clean pipes, without rust and deposits.

(2) Fix firmly stand pipes on upper deck.

(3) Clean pipes by using such as air blower before mounting on

stand pipe.

(4) Mounting flange surface is required with smooth flat.

C : Transportation
(1) Do not give impact and turn over.

(2) Do not place anything on VACUUM RELIEF VALVE.

D : Mounting
(1) Suspend with the eye bolts on the top of cover by using crane or lifting
device.

(2) Mount the valve as which of axis of disc is at right vertical.

(3) Flanged connection is based on JIS B 2210 5K as standard.

3. INSPECTION / MAINTENANCE

If the disc is normally operating and screen is dirty, the valve will restrict
the normal passage of air.

A .　Consequently, accidental damage will occur to cargo tanks. Inspect

the follows before sailing and unloading.

(1) Make certain by manual trial lever check that valve disc move up and
down freely.

(2) Whether screen is not clogged with deposits of carbon scale.

(3) Whether screen is not corroded or damage.

inspected, cleaned and overhauled at every years.

Especially, please kindly hurry up to overhaul time if cargo is easy to
stiffen.

(1) Make sure to stick without any foreign materials on the body, cover and
valve.

(2) Ensure that whether the valves has not been affected any damages from
the outside.

(3) Checking before loading included (1) ～ (3)

(4) Checking of the painting condition.

※ When an abnormal condition is found out into the valves, stop to using
and check the valve follow with "4. DISASSEMBLING OR REASSEMBLING"
and "5. CHECK POINT AND SERVICING AT OVERHAUL".

4. DISASSEMBLING AND REASSEMBLING

 :Notice on working
(1) Working operation should be quitted under rough weather condition
because of danger.
(2) Helmet, gas mask, goggles, gloves, safety belt, etc. should be worn on
for safeguard when working.
(3) Be careful not to injure the screens during replacing.
(4) Use non-sparking metal tools for working.
※ When the vacuum relief valve is dismantled from pipe, make certain
no pressure in tank and

(1) Loose bolts and nuts (D1-2) with spring washer, and dismantle
plate (A15) with check lift lever assembly , collar (A33), screen (E3-1),
screen guide (E3-2).

(2) Remove the spring pin (A11-6).

この時、B3 CHECK LIFT BAR を落下させないよう注意して下さい。

(3) Loose bolts and nuts (D1-1) with spring washer.

Lift up is eye bolt (M10) screwed on the valve (A3) rod top.

※ Cleaning work should be carried out at safety zone.

B: Refitting of the valve (A3).

※ Try to order in reverse as prior section A.

Loose eye bolt on the valve (A3) rod top at set on the valve (A3).

C: Taking out the screens (E3-1)

refer to the 8. GENERAL ASSEMBLY DRAWING

(1) Loose nut of bar holder (A22).

(2) In case of VV-E,S,L-65 to 200

Separate bar holder (A22), gasket (C1), screen (E3-1) and screen
guide (E3-2).

In case of VV-E-250
Separate bar holder (A22), gasket (C1), screen (E3-1), spacer (A10),
screen (E3-1), gasket (C1) and screen guide (E3-2).

D: Refitting of screen (E3-1).

(1) In case of VV-E,S,L-65 to 200

Insert bar holder (A22) to gasket (C1), screen (E3-1), screen (E3-1),
screen guide (E3-2).

In case of VV-E-250
Insert bar holder (A22) to gasket (C1), screen (E3-1), spacer (A10),
screen (E3-1), gasket (C1), screen guide (E3-2).

(2) Locate each hole of screen (E3-1) to screen guide (E3-2), and secure
them with bar holder nut (A22).

(3) Insert bolt (D1-2) from check lift lever (A11) side of plate (A15), Insert
collar (A33), screen guide (E3-2), screen (E3-1) from opposite.

insert bolt (D1-2) of semi-assembling to body (A1) bolt holes.

(5) Fitted nut and spring washer in bolt (D1-2).

(6) Make certain by manual trial check lift lever (A11) that valve (A3)
move up and down freely.
※ If not move up and down freely then reassembly.

(7) Tighten the bolt and nut (D1-2).

NOTE : Ensure all of the parts are in place of unit.

5. CHECK POINT AND SERVICING AT OVERHAUL

 NOTICE ON WORKING
Helmet, gas mask, goggles, gloves, safety belt, etc. should be worn on
for safeguard when working.

(1) The way to treat of a stain and coagulation stuck in body (A1),
cover (A2).
How to do :
① To clean the any deposits, apply to use a liquid cleaner or cloths.
② To clean with using detergent and duster after removing coagulation
stuck with using wire brush, Grinder.
Please be attention not to peel and hurt in painting.

(2) When mating seat surfaces (A3,A1) are of nicks, cuts or deposits that
might interfere with tightness of the valve.
How to do :
① In case of nicks and cuts, the seat must be lapped with flat plate
on which a find grinding compound should be used.
② Clean seat rings by using solvent and waste cloth.

(3) When bits, cuts or deposits were found on stem of valve (A3), seat (A1)
and guide on cover (A2).
How to do :
① File is used for chipping bits to flat and finish by using sandpaper
in grade #240..
② In case cuts was found out on it, use to finish it by sandpaper
in grade #240..
③ Clean surface out with cloth.

How to do :
① Dirty screen is cleaned by using compressed air or waste cloth.
NOTICE : Be careful no to damage screen.
② Corroded screens should be replaced to new one.
③ Damaged screens should be replaced to new one.

※ Be careful not to injure the screen.

The screen is 0.29mm (#30) × 30 Mesh allowable.
※ When some harmful damages are found out external on valve and
difficulty maintaining in each case of (1), (2) and (3), contact our
services and agents for parts supply.

(5) Reparation in painting part.

① The way of treatment and treatment grade inside.

1) Blast Cleaning : SIS Sa 2.5 and over
2) Power tool Cleaning : SIS Please treat like St 3.0

② The condition of painting construction.

1) Please do not paint as follow environment a high temperature,
a low temperature, high humidity and s strong wind.

2) Please follow painting catalogue to painting construction opening,

dilution and chore drying.

③ Painting Inspection
The thickness of skin should be strictly examined beyond stipulated
thickness standard.
