Orchha is a town in Madhya Pradesh.

Although this town is very small and

somewhat hidden from the modern world, this town has a lot more to offer
than one can imagine. It is surrounded with a wonderful orchha fort complex,
the Betwa River adds to the beauty of Orchha.

The town is said to be the capital of Bundelkhand between sixteenth and

eighteenth century. Also the kingdom was ruled by the Rajput clan but the
architecture has Mughal touch.

It is more than meet the eyes

The name Orchha does not evoke anything as the town has very popular
contemporaries like Ujjain and Gwalior .But there are many nicely
constructed structures and tourist places to visit in Orchha.

Chaturbhuj Temple
This temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu. The temple name is a combination
s four arms
which when translated becomes one who has four arms. It is a multi-story
complex which resembles a pine cone when viewed from far away. The temple
was built by a ruler madhukar shah with his son Raja vir singh deo.
Laxmi Narayan Temple
Laxmi Narayan temple is a blend of temple and fort. It is a geometric wonder
as the temple is constructed in such a way that it appears rectangular from
outside but is triangular from inside. Also the temple has an octagonal central

of the ancient period. There are also paintings depicting british rule! Also

victories.

One of the most amusing things about the temple is that although the temple
is dedicated to goddess Laxmi, there is no idol of goddess Laxmi.

Cenotaphs of orchha
The cenotaphs are the square shape platforms that are covered with dome
shape ceilings. These are also called as chattris in hindi .These chhatris were
built as a funeral monument for the dead rulers. Now the chattris lay there as
the reminiscence of the rulers who once rules this amazing town!
