YOUTUBE
Buried between cat videos and make-up tutorials lies a treasure trove of Motion Design tutorials on YouTube. YouTube is a
great place to go if you have a very specific question about a technique or software. But be warned! There are a lot of really
bad, if not blatantly incorrect tutorials on YouTube. Here’s a few good channels to start with:
BLOGS
Along with YouTube there are quite a few Motion Design related blogs out there. Blogs can be a great way to get everyday
inspiration and learn something new. Like YouTube channels, there are some good ones and some REALLY bad ones. Here’s
ONLINE LIBRARIES
LYNDA (LINKED IN LEARNING)
Lynda is the largest online learning library in the world and for good reason. If you want to learn just about anything you can
type it into the search bar on Lynda and find no less than 27 courses on the subject. Unlike YouTube, Lynda is pretty good at
curating their content so if you watch a course there’s a good chance that the techniques are correct and true.
However, Lynda’s content can be pretty sterile. Even if you want to learn a certain concept the tutorials can be real snoozers,
but if you have a lot of self-discipline and patience you can definitely learn some stuff by watching these tutorials.
SKILLSHARE
Skillshare is like Lynda’s creative little sister. On Skillshare you’ll find a library of courses that have been created and
submitted by practicing artists in a myriad of industries. These courses tend to be more fun and approachable than Lynda.
However, these both suffer from the same problem; there isn’t a great path to take your skills from beginner to intermediate
to advanced. Instead of a highly-curated path to success, students are forced to ‘choose their own adventure’. This can be a
fine way to learn a program, but from experience it is far better to have an industry expert walk you through the process.
PLURALSIGHT
Pluralsight is one of the better tutorial libraries around. Most of Pluralsight’s content focuses on tutorials for professionals. So
unlike Skillshare, you’re only going to find tutorials here that focus on hard-core industry concepts.
Pluralsight’s library is pretty small compared to the other libraries featured on this list, so you’re only going to find a few dozen
hours worth of content for After Effects, Cinema 4D, Photoshop, and Illustrator, but each of those courses are going to be much
GREYSCALEGORILLA ARCHIVES
If you haven’t already heard of GreyscaleGorilla, today is your lucky day. GreyscaleGorilla is one of the best places to learn
about Cinema 4D. Seriously, the guys at GSG are crazy about 3D and they have hundreds of hours worth of tutorials and
webinars to prove it. While you can certainly find hundreds of tutorials and blog posts on their site for free, there are also a
few great collections of screen captured webinars that can be found on their training page. If you want to get serious about 3D
COURSES / BOOTCAMPS
LEARNED SQUARED
Started by industry legend, Ash Thorp, Learned Squared is a hybrid of online tutorial catalogue and mentorship program. All of the
courses are taught by legit artists in the industry. The thing that sets Learned Squared apart is their unique mentorship program
where users can get critiqued by real, practicing professionals. Learned Squared isn’t as comprehensive as some of the other libraries
on this list, so you aren’t’ going to find an ‘Animation 101 Course’, but you will find some very specific, yet incredible, courses.
MOGRAPH MENTOR
MoGraph Mentor brings us into a completely different league of MoGraph education. While the majority of the resources included
on this list would fall into the ‘online library’ category, Mograph Mentor is reminiscent of a traditional college course. Students are
encouraged to follow a 3-part series of courses that start with the basics and end with getting a job. Students of MoGraph mentor
get real feedback from practicing professionals in the industry. It really is a great way to learn Motion Design.

SCHOOL OF MOTION
Now we may be a little biased about this last method of learning Motion Design, but hear us out. If you’re new to the Motion
Design industry you are undoubtedly starting to feel overwhelmed by the number of things to learn. And for good reason, there’s
a lot to learn. We understand this, so we’ve custom tailored our site to cut through the clutter and only provide you with top-notch
MoGraph education. You can search the internet far and wide and you’d be hard-pressed to find a single course as comprehensive
The thing that makes School of Motion particularly helpful is the fact that the courses were created by seasoned artists, and tested
by individuals from many creative backgrounds. If it’s not the best training possible you won’t find it on School of Motion.
Our courses give students the ability to get critiqued by practicing Motion Graphic artists. Inside each course you’ll find a mixture
of in-depth lessons, interviews with professionals, helpful PDFs, and project files. You’ll also get to work on projects based on real-
world clients and once you’re done with a course you’ll be permanently a part of our alumni network where artists from around
the industry can share their latest work, meet incredible people, and view job postings. There’s nothing quite like it online. If
you’re feeling pumped go check out our courses page. A great place to start is the ‘After Effects Kickstart’ course.
