7 SCOPE

7.7 This specification appTies to the treatment of

ferrous surfaces of Armament Stores to produce coatings
essentiaTTy of metal phosphates that are intended to be used in
conjunetion with suppTementary finishes for protecEion against
corrosion.
t.2 This specification covers three classes of phosphat+ng
processes i-e- aVceTerated and non-acceTerated, which are desig-
'nated. in terms of the compositions and mass of the coatings as
given in clause 5.5.
7.3 The dimensions of the finished eomponents shalT be those
of the components after phosphating and before the application of
the supplementary finish or as specified in the store
draw ing / spe c i f i cat i on .
1.4 This specification does not cover treatments which give
very thin coatiltg of mass beTow than that specified in cTass III
in Clause 6 .5 (c) .
7.5 The class of phosphate finish and the twe of suppleme!-
tary finish reqtired (".g. oiT,grea_se, paint etc ) sha77 be
stilpulated. in Ene contract or specification or on the drawing
governing the manufactute of the component.
