QUESTIONS:

2-3.The United States and France are more culturally similar to the UK than are Thailand
and South Korea, yet Tesco failed in the former two and has been highly successful in the
latter two. How might you explain the difference?

Probably, the difference between the United states and France are more culturally, similar
to the UK than are Thailand and South Korea, yet Tesco failed in the former two and has been
highly successful in the latter two is that Tesco definitely realizes that the business strategies
they were formulated were efficient and successful in the UK would only be efficient and
successful if they were given a local flavor and taste. Tesco learned that it was essential to hire
local employees and staff. Also in United States, Tesco generally focused on ready to eat meals
that required higher spending as compared to ordering outside or takeout. This was the taste and
habit of Europe, but not in the U.S. and unfortunately they attempt to introduce it during the
decline or regression when many people had time and little money. While in France, deprived of
native or original and fashionable consumers did not like the garments style in a typically British
manner.

2-4.In the context of global retailing, describe what you think is meant by “utilizing the
skill and scale of the Group.”

Again, Tesco definitely realized that the business strategies they formulate and
implemented that were successful in the UK would only be efficient if they were adapted to its
local market before going through, globally. If a certain company takes risk globally without
realizing and utilizing its skills, strategies specifically strategic management wisely and adapting
a one’s country, will be hard time for them to succeed in the global market, knowing that we
have different culture, traditions and norms. They should focused first locally before going
through, globally. They also realized that hiring employees and local staff in many of the
management positions taking advantage of their expertise, and to also adapt product offering to
local market taste and desires in order for Tesco to increase their life span in its local and foreign
market.

2-5.What is the role of global teams in sharing best practices across a firm’s global
operations? What advice would you give to make the teams more effective?

Global teams and connections are very essential to a company or organization to work
and to develop with by sharing its best practices, traditions, cultures, and norms to their business
operations, to be able to have enough knowledge on strategies, strategic management that will be
applicable and effective for the development and progress of their company. As these teams
came together, their diverse background, perspective, and experiences enable the business to
gain a deeper knowledge of products and services and how to create and deliver them. Because
many of these teams come from diverse cultures, it may be difficult for individuals to interact
with each other. So, I might suggest a form of cultural awareness and sensitivity training to make
these teams more effective and efficient. It will be a big help for them to grow and prosper so
that the practices they’ve been into will develop and improve.
2-7.What are some things an MNE can do to facilitate knowledge sharing and global
integration across its global businesses?

Definitely, facilitating knowledge sharing and global integration across its global
business by MNE might have an aggressive and great impact of one’s economy and especially in
the foreign market. To do so, MNE should at least have an active managing organizational
knowledge can stimulate cultural change and innovation by encouraging the free flow of ideas. It
enhances and emphasizes of having an insight and unique ideas towards each other across its
global business to have an innovative products and services. In this complex global business
environment, these programs should be designed to help mangers embrace change and encourage
ideas and insight, which will often lead to innovation. Knowing that having an innovative and
unique ideas and insights to develop and improve their products that haven’t exists in the market,
especially to a foreign market can lead to a successful one across its global business.

2-9.How would this business model translate into policies of recruitment, training and
development, and career management across the Group?

Having this business model translate into policies of recruitment, training and
development, and career management across the Group can have a great impact upon the
progress and improvement of one’s Group. I strongly agree that it was translated into the policies
of recruitment, training and development, and career management across the Group because it
would be for betterment and improvement of themselves and the organization. I believe as
thought it would translate fairly well and I think it would be transparent and equate things.
While there would be issues in that it is a different focus. I think that knowing the culture in
general would aid in gearing these practices towards the needs of the local culture. So that the
practices they’ve into will improve and to develop a lot of best practices for the progress across
the Group. It would be a big help for them to set standards so that they have something to be
guided of where should their organization to become and into. And I don’t think and see any
problem of that at all.
