HIGH IDLE OPERATION

1. INTRODUCTION (3) Depress the lower portion of the high idle
activation switch to shut down engine high
The high idle system consists of a control mechanism idle operation.
mounted on the engine and rocker switch to activate it
on the left-hand dash switch panel. The primary
purpose of the high idle system is to maintain the
batteries during long idling periods. The high idle is
enough to maintain alternator output at a level to support
the operation of all lighting systems when the vehicle is
at rest without pumping. The high idle system should
also be used during long idling periods without a heavy
electrical load. During long idling periods the engine
coolant temperature will fall below the minimum
operating temperature. This low temperature will cause 1
incomplete combustion of fuel. Incomplete fuel
combustion results in dilution of the lubricating oil,
formation of lacquer or gummy deposits on exhaust
valves, pistons and rings and sludge accumulation in
the engine. The engine manufacturer recommends a
high idle be used to maintain coolant temperature if the
engine will be at idle for more than five minutes.
