membraPure systems – experts in water purification systems and related analyzers

Who we are

Systems from membraPure – Water purification systems and analyzers for TOC, amino acids and ions
at the highest level.

Since 1993 we have been dealing with water purification systems. In the course of time, we have
continuously expanded our activities to include the associated analyzers like miniTOC, uniTOC, ARACUS
and IONUS. For more than a quarter of a century, membraPure has been an established player in the
market for pure and ultra pure water systems, TOC, amino acid analyzer and ion chromatograph.

We are developing continuously our systems and applications and to applying for patents. In our work,
we exclusively use high-end technology such as EDI, post-column derivatization with ninhydrin and NDIR-
TOC detection.

Our instruments are low-maintenance and enable online service support. We sell our instruments
worldwide via a dealer network and our own sales offices in Beijing/PR China, Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia
and Sao Paulo/Brazil, Mumbai/India.

In 2015, we opened a new manufacturing hall at our headquarters in Hennigsdorf near Berlin to meet
rising demand and to maintain and improve our quality in an even more efficient environment.

Our dedicated team of experts locally and at headquarters in Hennigsdorf/Berlin helps to keep your
systems running smoothly at all times.

Working with membraPure offers you the following advantages:

 Fast response times for deliveries and service

 Latest technology and applications, backed by patents
 All our products are made in Germany

1 Water Purification Systems

1.1 Astacus²

The system Astacus² is designed for the production of ultra pure water
(0.055 μS/cm) out of permeate from a reverse osmosis or deionized
water.
The ultra pure water is produced with a combination of optimized mixed
bed cartridges and can be tapped with a flexible dispenser. If water is not
used, automatic recirculation within the Astacus² system ensures a
permanent high quality of ultra pure water. All components of the
Astacus² are assembled in an especially designed housing. The system
can be easily opened by removing the side panel to access the ultra pure
module, UV lamp (185 nm/ 254 nm) and ultrafiltration module. The μS -
control checks the conductivity of feed water to protect the cartridges
against inappropriate feed water (black line). If conductivity is too high
the water will be rejected.

Figure 1: Scheme shows flowchart of Astacus² Life Science TI.

1.5 AquaRO² and EDI²

The series of AquaRO² and EDI² are designed for the production of pure water (10 μS/cm to 0.2 μS/cm)
out of tap water.
The series of AquaRO², AquaRO²DI and EDI² are based on a reverse osmosis (RO) unit to produce
deionised water. The EDI² series further processes the osmosis water by using an EDI cell to get type II
water. The advantages of both series is the flexibility in terms of configuration. A production rate of 8 to
40 L/h in three different degrees of pure water (10 μS/cm to 0.2 μS/cm) is available. Optionally the
systems can be equipped with a dispenser. The customer can optionally choose a 35 L or 70 L tank or
individual. All components of the AquaRO² and EDI² series are assembled in an especially designed
housing. The systems can be easily opened by removing the side panel to access the spare parts.

2 Total organic carbon analyzer

2.1 miniTOC

The miniTOC system is designed for total organic carbon (TOC)

online/offline monitoring of pure and ultra pure water. The miniTOC
instrument uses the high speed flow through concept and the efficient
„direct surface“ UV oxidation. In combination with conductivity detection
the miniTOC guarantees the fast monitoring of values. By measuring the
conductivity before and after the UV oxidation the TOC value can be
calculated.

Figure 11: The scheme shows the principle of measuring the TOC value via conductivity with miniTOC.

Total organic carbon analyzer

2.2 uniTOC

The uniTOC system is designed for total organic carbon (TOC)

online/offline monitoring from water to ultra pure water. The uniTOC
instrument uses the full oxidation by UV. The oxidation process can
be enhanced with additional dosage of reagent and is required by a
TOC level higher than 2 ppm. The NDIR detector (non dispersive
infrared) is absolutely selective to carbon dioxide and therefore
independent from conductivity and sample temperature. In a first
step the TIC (total inorganic carbon) is removed with carbon dioxide
free stripped gas and after that value is measured.

Figure 12: The scheme shows the principle of uniTOC with the two different pathways for TIC and TOC and the
principle of measuring the TOC value.

Amino Acid Analyzer

3 Amino Acid Analyzer

3.1 ARACUS

ARACUS works according to gold standard of post column derivatization with ninhydrin, with detection at
440 nm and 570 nm using maintenance free LED photometers. A separation of up to 44 amino acids in
about one hour is possible, but also of a few amino acids within a few minutes. ARACUS is used in clinical
laboratory (e.g. newborn screening), in quality control for Food (own patent 10 2016 010 887), beverages
and feedstuff and in research.

Figure 13: The scheme shows the principle of ARACUS with the pathways for eluents, sample and reagent solution.
Following the separation of the amino acids inside the column, the mixture of sample and reagent solution flows
through a reactor for the chemical reaction. Finally the flow passes the LED photometers (570 nm + 440 nm), where
the amino acids will be detected indirectly by formed dye.

Ion Chromatograph

4 Ion Chromatograph

4.1 IONUS

IONUS can be used for the analysis of anions and cations in research, development and everyday
routine for aqueous solutions as well as for waters within the scope of environmentally relevant
investigations. This chromatograph separates anions (for anions optionally with suppressor
technology) according to EPA 300.0 and cations. The advantage of IONUS is the compatibility with the
common eluents of anion and cation exchange chromatography. By suitable post column
derivatization, transition metals (VIS detection) as well as bromate (EPA 317.0 or EPA 326) can be
detected. If requested, the IONUS can be equipped with an UV/VIS detector for indirect UV detection.
