The purpose of this experiment is to learn the basic components

and operation of an escalator and to determine the gear motor speed for driving an
escalator with a known speed. Escalator is a moving staircase consisting of an
endlessly circulating belt of steps driven by a motor, conveying people
between two floors. Escalator is powered by the gear motor which turn drives the
second sprocket and bucket drive system. From this experiment, I had learnt
about few equations and able to solve it out. We had examine the escalator
by using two different speed which are low(5V)& high(9V). This experiment
was carry out twice. This is to get the average number in order to get a more
accurate data. The basic component of the escalator are landing platforms,
truss, balustrade, handrail, track, steps and motors.Escalators are driven by a
motor and chain system inside the truss. At its core are a pair of chains looped around
two pairs of gears. An electric motor turns the drive gears at the top, which rotate
the chain loops. A typical escalator uses a 100 horsepower motor to rotate the gears.
The motor and chain system are housed inside the truss, a metal structure extending
between two floors.
