Centrifuge Error Codes

Displayed Messages

• Many IEC Centrifuges two different sets of messages

• Warning Messages
1. Indicates improper operating condition
2. May be cleared by opening the lid and correcting the problem
3. May be cleared by pressing stop
4. Refer to individual system manuals

• Error Codes
1. Indicates a malfunction
2. Message cleared by disconnecting and reconnecting power
3. Usually requires service

2
Warning Messages

• LId
• The cover was not properly closed when the start button was pressed
or the cover was opened during a run.
1. Possible lid switch/lid switch logic failure

• PFL / PFAIL
• Power to the Centrifuge was lost during a run.
1. Check power to the centrifuge.

• bAL
• Indicates an unbalanced rotor
1. Check rotor balance, bucket pivot lubrication, rotor locking
mechanism, adapters for cracks and voids, imbalance sensor.

• HEAd
• No rotor installed when START key pressed
• Recognition system fails to read a valid rotor
1. Verify rotor is installed
2. Check rotor for magnets, verify magnet pattern in manual,
check rotor recognition ring per instructions.

3
Warning Messages

• ch hd
• Change head. The rotor recognized is not in the list of supported
rotors, or, in a program mode, the current program is set up to
run a different rotor. (Rotor Rec System)
1. Press stop, open the lid and install the correct rotor

• rAD
• Radius error ( rAD flashes with max value). The rotor radius value
input exceeds the maximum. (Rotor Rec System)
1. Press stop to clear
2. In manual mode, enter correct value
3. In Program mode, save key will default (max value) for rotor

• rCF
• rCF, (Relative Centrifugal Force), (flashes with max value), the
input RCF is greater than the max for the rotor or the speed is
greater than the max allowable for the rotor. (Rotor Rec System)
1. Press stop to clear
2. Enter a new RCF value within max allowable or a new radius

4
Warning Messages

• SPD
• Speed (SPD appears and flashes with max value) if the input
speed is greater than the rotor max. (Rotor Rec System)
1. Press stop to clear
2. Enter a new speed value within the max allowed

• Cool
• Temperature of MosFet case (motor drive) exceeds 65C.
1. Check cooling / ventilation
2. Check motor / binding / replace PCB

• bruSH
• Brush appears at a timed interval ( varies by system) at the
end of each run if it is time to inspect the brushes.
Only appears on systems with brush counters
1. Power off to reset until brush counter reset
2. To reset, see individual system manual

5
Error Codes

• Er 1, Err 1, ERROR 001

• = NO TACHOMETER SIGNAL. After a run is started, no speed is
detected. Motor if running coasts to a stop. Cover open locked out.
1. Power off and on to clear.
2. Check speed sensor, motor, brake, etc…..

• Er 2, ERROR 002, OSPd

• = OVERSPEED CONDITION. Exact condition varies with each
system. Refer for individual manuals for details.
1. Power off and on to clear
2. Check for rotor, speed sensor, motor, motor power

• ERROR 003, run A,

• = RUNAWAY. During stopping, the rotor does not decelerate for
a specified period of time or the detected speed is higher than
maximum speed of the centrifuge. Rotor coasts to a stop.
1. Power off and on to clear
2. Check motor, motor drive, brake, speed detector

6
Error Codes

• ERROR 004, rEFR, rEFr,

• = REFRIGERATION FAILURE. Refrigerated centrifuges only
Displayed if the measured temperature exceeds 45C, at any
time during the run.
1. Power off and on to clear.
2. Check thermistor, thermocouple, logic PCB

• ERROR 005, FSAFE

• = FAIL SAFE TIME OUT. Independent circuitry on the PCB senses
a lack of activity from the control processor. All power circuits
disabled
1. Power off and on to clear
2. If persists, replace processor PCB

• ERROR 006, COPF, ILLOP

• = COP WATCHDOG / OPCODE TRAP ERROR . The processor
senses a lack of activity from the program controlling the centrifuge.
Rotor coasts to a stop.
1. Power off and on to clear
2. If persists, replace processor PCB

7
Error Codes

• ERROR 007, Err 13

• = STACK ERROR. Processor program error. Memory overflow.
Rotor coasts to a stop
1. Power off and on to clear.
2. If persists, replace processor PCB

• ERROR 008, COP

• = COP WATCHDOG NOT ENABLED. Processor Cop not enabled.
Rotor coasts to a stop.
1. Power off and on to clear
2. If persists, replace processor PCB

• ERROR 009, UndFl

• = UNDEFINED INTERRUPT . The processor was interrupted by an
undefined source. Rotor coasts to a stop..
1. Power off and on to clear
2. If persists, replace processor PCB

8
Error Codes

• Er 10
• = MOTOR OVERVOLTAGE. CL2 error. Motor voltage detected over
maximum limit (94V). Rotor coasts to a stop
