We Cannot Save the Earth

By Teacher Fred

We cannot save the earth. If there is anyone to be saved, it is us, humans.

A lot of people underestimate the planet. We say that we are saving earth
without realizing that we are just saving ourselves. Firstly, the planet’s demise is
a long way off while ours is just around the corner.

Though the Earth won’t survive its final day of reckoning with a dying Sun,
it will survive global warming, a nuclear holocaust, and even an asteroid strike.
But we might not. We can just help to prevent self-destruction but some things
are out of our hands. Sooner or later, just like in the movies, we’ll be hit by that
giant meteor.

Secondly, we are not saving the planet when we minimize the use of water.
The water that we use will just go back to its original form. It evaporates, then it
will undergo condensation, and will precipitate back to earth. It just completes its
cycle over and over. We use water properly so that we can save some for our
own sake. Not for the planet.

Lastly, we plant trees so that we have resources to live. We use trees to

build constructions, get food to eat, and provide us oxygen so we can breathe.
Again, we plant trees for our own sake and not for the planet.

When we take care of nature, we do that to survive. We clean the

environment, we do water conservation, and we plant trees so that we can save
ourselves, not the planet. We cannot save Earth, we can only help prevent its
destruction.
