Section Four: Alignment to Curriculum & Professional Standards

Introduction:

This section of my project portfolio will address the particular standards that align with

the artifacts that I have previously discussed in Section 3. In Section 3 I have discussed 8

different artifacts that I feel are important to showcase my abilities to effectively teach in an

elementary classroom, as well as show the skills I have acquired throughout the MSED program

I am currently completing. The chart that I have included in this section will identify the artifact

in the left column and following that, the aligning curriculum and other standards pertaining to

that particular artifact. I have discussed these standards in the above section before displaying

my artifacts however this chart will give a clear understanding of which standards each particular

artifact aligns with in one place. The standards are such an important aspect of teaching, as they

are what a teacher needs to strive to achieve. Some of the standards apply to the students and

their learning as well as others apply to the teacher and how they are instructing particular

subjects and lessons. The purpose of this section is to showcase my skills and achievements

throughout my MSED program. I am confident that through the use of the chart in this section

you will be able to see that I am prepared and ready to become an elementary teacher. The

evidence in this section, which has been carried over from Section 3, shows proof of my abilities

as well as my readiness to teach in an elementary classroom. I have aligned the assignments I

have completed with the appropriate standards. I have done this in order to show that I am able

to meet these standards and that I have the ability to effectively plan, instruct and assess student

learning, as well as display my teaching abilities in an elementary classroom.

Conclusion

As you have seen through the use of the above chart in Section 4, I have aligned each of

the artifacts I showcased in Section 3 with the aligning standards. Showing the standards with the

artifact in a chart form was to make it easier for you to read and understand. Each particular

standard is listed alongside each artifact in a clear way which showcases my ability to align my

teaching skills and artifacts with the appropriate standard as explained previously in Section 3. I

am confident in my ability to meet the required standards both for the students as well as for my

planning, instruction and assessment aspects of my teaching career. I feel that the artifacts I have

listed, as well as the standards, showcase all three of the competencies that I need to be

successful in an elementary classroom.

The next section of my portfolio project is, Section 5: Teacher Candidate Reflection. In

this section, I will reflect on the process I have just gone through in completing my portfolio. I

will also discuss the experiences that have had while going through the process, collecting

materials, and choosing which materials and artifacts I was going to use. This process was

something that is important to reflect on as it shows my ability to demonstrate growth

mindedness.
