Ogle-Lee Retired Teachers’ Association Executive Board Meeting – March 14, 2017

The March 14, 2017 Ogle-Lee Retired Teachers’ Association Executive Board Meeting was called
to order by Co-President Jean Hoff at 10:00 AM at the Byron Public Library with the following
members present: Jean Hoff, Jean Whipple, Linda Kenney, Diane Kenney, Carole Sutton,
Marvel Blomberg, Phil Bratta, Richard Longfellow, Jim Schoonhoven, and Elke Grennan.

The minutes from the October 11, 2016 Membership Meeting and the November 1, 2016 Executive
Board Meeting were accepted.

The treasurer’s report presented by Linda Kenney was approved by consensus after correcting
balance dates to 3-11-17. As of March 11, 2017, the checking account balance was $8462.62, the
Memorial Fund balance was $615.81, the Life Account balance was $7566.67, with a Total Asset
balance of $16645.10. A certificate of deposit renews in March with interest to accumulate.

Jean Whipple, membership chairperson, reported four new pipeline members have joined Ogle-
Lee RTA: Floya Hawkins, Mary Murtaugh, Holly Peterson, and Martha Schultz. The
Lee/Ogle/Whiteside Regional Office of Education will not provide announced retirement lists, but
some information is available from IRTA to use for membership recruitment. The motion by Richard
Longfellow and seconded by Phil Bratta to authorize Jean Whipple to spend up to $50 per year for
mailings to prospective retirees was approved. First-year-free members will be sent three renewal
reminders before being classified as non-members if they don't pay renewal dues.

Keith Erhart, retiring Legislative Chairperson, has prepared a legislative update and summary of
his duties for the March newsletter.

Loretta Bell will do the Memorial Service for the twelve members who passed away in 2016 at the
July Membership Luncheon Meeting.

Jean Whipple reported the following changes to the caller list: Priscilla Brickley for Hal Weaver,
Linda Knigge for Geraldine French, and Jan Dietrich for Andy Hinkle. For the April 4, 2017
luncheon, callers will contact members March 20-24; reservations and cancellations are due to
Marvel Blomberg by March 27; and the final count is due to Rock River Center on March 28, 2017.

Co- Vice Presidents Carole Sutton and Diane Kenney announced the 2017 membership luncheon
meeting programs:
April 4: John Lindhorst, Ukulele Station America, 30-45 minutes, $100 fee. Carole Sutton
will introduce him.
July 11: The Road to Cuba by Dan Graber and Terry Dickow, up to 45 minutes, no fee
requested. Diane Kenney will introduce them. Chris Gluck, AMBA and Loretta Bell's
Memorial 2016 Service will also be on agenda.
October 10: Gail Beck, KSB Hospital Dietician, 30 minutes, reimbursement for printing of
handouts to be determined. Carole Sutton will introduce her.

For the July 11, 2017 membership luncheon meeting at the Rochelle First Presbyterian Church
featuring a buffet catered by Ralphie & LuLu's, a committee of at least six confirmed volunteers will
be needed to help set up, prepare beverage service, serve, and clean up after the meal. Diane
Kenney will head this committee with Jean Hoff advising.

The following positions are currently available for the 2018-19 term: President or Co-Presidents,
Legislative Chairperson, and Webmaster (assistant webmaster position also currently vacant).
Nominations for positions will be accepted at the July 11, 2017 membership meeting and the
election will be held at the October 10, 2017 membership meeting.

The IRTA Area 1 Conference will be held on May 15, 2017 at Illinois Valley Community College and
repeated on May 16, 2017 at the Northwest Territory Historic Center in Dixon from 8:30 AM to 1:30
PM. Ogle-Lee RTA registrations are due to Jean Hoff by April 28 and payment to Loryann Eis,
Area 1 Representative by May 5. The motion by Jean Whipple and seconded by Elke Grennan for
Ogle-Lee RTA to pay the $12 registration fee for Ogle-Lee RTA members to attend was approved.

The IRTA State Convention will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Springfield on October 30-31,
2017. The committee expressed a preference to donate to the Political Action Fund directly rather
than prepare a silent auction basket and the donation amount was tabled for the next meeting.
The motion by Phil Bratta and seconded by Richard Longfellow to nominate Joe Thiele as the 2017
Ogle-Lee Unit Honoree for the IRTA State Convention passed.

The April 4, 2017 Membership Luncheon Meeting will be at the Rock River Center in Oregon with
Social Hour beginning at 11:00 AM, the business meeting at Noon, lunch served at 12:15 PM, and
the program following lunch. Area 1 Representative Loryann Eis and John Lindhorst, Ukelele
Station America will be on the program. A collection basket for the Political Action Committee will
be available. The luncheon fee is $15.00. The meal includes a plated salad and rolls, chicken
spinach lasagna, corn and bacon casserole, carrot cake, tea, coffee, and water.

Elke Grennan, secretary, will review the Ogle-Lee RTA Constitution and By-laws and prepare a
written report for the June 13, 2017 Executive Board Meeting for discussion of possible updates.
Any recommended changes will be announced to the membership in the September 2017
newsletter and voted upon at the October 10, 2017 membership meeting.

Remaining 2017 Executive Board Meeting dates are on Tuesdays: June 13, September 12, and
November 14.

Remaining 2017 Membership Luncheon Meetings will be on Tuesdays: July 11 at the Rochelle
First Presbyterian Church and October 10 at Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center in Oregon.

The next Executive Board Meeting will be on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10 AM at the Byron
Public Library. Secretary Elke Grennan will not be in attendance.

Jean Hoff adjourned the meeting at 11:31 AM.
