Kick Off: Business Technology Platform: Highlights at SAP TechEd

00:00:11 Hot topics that you've all been talking about include, innovation, integration, and roadmaps.
00:00:17 I know these topics are also top of mind for Juergen Mueller.
00:00:20 Juergen is tremendously invested in learning about our challenges, and helping us overcome
them.
00:00:26 How is this technology changing our industries? How are we using technology to have closer
00:00:32 and more informed relationships with our own customers? Please put your hands together and
welcome Juergen Mueller.
00:00:38 A big, big welcome to SAP TechEd Las Vegas. To SAP TechEd here in Barcelona.
00:00:45 Namaskaram, namaste. A big, big welcome
00:00:53 to SAP TechEd here in Bangalore. It is so good to see many of you here.
00:00:59 Of course, everyone wants to deliver a superior experience, right?
00:01:04 Does that always work? Not really.
00:01:08 Every one of us had great experiences with companies, but also every one of us had bad
experiences with companies.
00:01:15 Interestingly, 80% of CEOs believe that they are delivering a superior experience, 80.
00:01:24 Sometimes I'm asking myself, "Okay, what are the other 20 doing or thinking?"
00:01:28 But 80% of CEOs, according to a study of Bain say they are delivering a superior experience.

00:01:36 Only 8% of customers agree. This is what we call a huge experience gap.
00:01:48 So, what happens if you have a bad experience? You switch to a competitor.
00:01:53 I do that, you do that. 80% of consumers do that.
00:01:57 If you combine the value in the last year that switched because of bad experiences, we end up
at approximately
00:02:05 $1.6 trillion, according to Accenture. That equals roughly 7% of every dollar spent in the US.
00:02:16 $1.6 trillion per year. So you can imagine that each and every company
00:02:23 wants to get a pie of this 1.6 trillion. You want to keep customers,
00:02:27 but also you want to win customers from other competitors. How does SAP help?
00:02:35 With the Intelligent Enterprise, we help to bring together operations and experiences.
00:02:45 SAP has been a leader in enterprise applications for a long time.
00:02:51 So we have a deep understanding of operational data, O-data. Now, with Qualtrics joining the
SAP family,
00:03:01 we also help you capture experience data, X- data. O-Data tells you what happens,
00:03:09 and X-Data tells you why it happens. And along the way, we infuse intelligence,
00:03:15 so you can take the right actions just in time. In my team and I, we want to provide you the
fastest way
00:03:23 to turn data into business value. That is why we are undergoing a strategy and culture change.

00:03:32 We are becoming much more business centric and outcome oriented.
00:03:37 We have been incrementally evolving our digital platform to move towards a Business
Technology Platform.
00:03:49 And while this is not the loudest announcement, I think you will see that, over time,
00:03:53 this is the most impactful one. We will bring HANA and analytics closer together
00:03:59 with the SAP Cloud Platform. We provide easier access to SAP data.
00:04:05 We showed SAP Graph in Las Vegas already. We provide business services,
00:04:10 like billing as a service, document processing as a service,
00:04:14 text as a service. And we are also more open,
00:04:18 for example, including certain hyper-scalar services. So these are four technical things,
00:04:22 and then there is one more thing, which is a commercial piece.
00:04:26 So we make it much, much easier to consume SAP technology as well,
00:04:31 with the new commercial offering that we are expanding. This is our Cloud Platform Enterprise
Agreement.
00:04:38 With this, you can pay for Cloud Platform services with cloud credits, based on your actual
usage.
00:04:46 It's like a pre-paid phone card. And I will share exciting news in the next few minutes
00:04:53 about each of these four pillars of the Business Technology Platform.
00:04:57 Let's look at the first pillar, database and data management.
00:05:01 Today, I'm very excited to share big news here. We are announcing SAP HANA Cloud.
00:05:10 It is a cloud native implementation. It leverages microservices, containerization, Kubernetes.
00:05:18 The TCO will be dramatically lower than for any other HANA system you know.
00:05:24 We have choices for data storage and more options for data federation.
00:05:28 So you don't have to move your data around any more. So, the CFO will be happy,
00:05:34 and also all of you get all the scaling flexibility that you need.
00:05:39 You can set up HANA Cloud very easily, just like any other service on the SAP Cloud Platform.

00:05:47 And you only pay for the memory, disc, and data lake storage you use.
00:05:51 Paid by the hour, if you wish. With the data virtualization options,
00:05:57 SAP HANA Cloud offers one data access layer for all your data sources.
00:06:04 It directly connects your data from your on-premise HANA system
00:06:08 to third-party systems and even Excel, without the need for data replication
00:06:15 in order to work with that data. You can assign your data to in-memory,
00:06:20 to per-system memory, to HANA's disc store, to HANA's relational data lake,
00:06:25 as well as to external data lakes, such as AWSS3 as your data lake.
00:06:30 If you are using HANA on premise or in the cloud today, you can continue using it,
00:06:35 and we will help you move to HANA Cloud. So stay tuned,
00:06:39 register on the website for further information. HANA has come a very long way,
00:06:44 and this is another big step. So, thanks for being with us on that journey.
00:06:48 Thank you very much. At SAP, all engineering leads agreed to develop
00:06:59 a virtual semantic data model. A virtual semantic data model.
00:07:05 We will come to that. Imagine it as a one-stop shop
00:07:09 For SAP data with a consistent format, exposed to customers as one semantic data model.
00:07:17 We use this approach to integrate our own applications with each other as well.
00:07:21 We will expose those to you, to partners, to customers, over time as well.
00:07:28 How are we going to expose it? We are working on a new solution,
00:07:32 and actually, I am happy to announce a new solution today. This is SAP graph, available in
restricted beta.
00:07:50 SAP Graph addresses the complexity of having to work with a large number of APIs
00:07:56 when you work with applications across the intelligence suite.
00:08:00 We hope to remove those challenges by offering a unified API layer,

2
00:08:06 which can be used by any application, running on SAP or non-SAP technology.
00:08:11 So, let's move to the next section in the direction of analytics.
00:08:18 SAP Analytics Cloud is the go-to solution for data visualization, BI, predictive, and planning.
00:08:25 So, we are embedding SAP Analytics Cloud into S/4HANA and also into SuccessFactors.
00:08:35 Both of these are available with the upcoming Q4 releases, with SAP Analytics Cloud
embedded, at no extra cost.
00:08:44 Now what you can do is, directly from S/4HANA, you can create an analytical story.
00:08:50 So, you can link this to your S/4HANA Cloud launchpad. So, the scenario is on disputes,
00:09:00 so imagine customers don't want to pay the invoices, but, of course, you want them to pay,
00:09:07 and you need to figure out which customers to turn to,
00:09:10 what the amounts are, and so on. Usually, what you would have to do is go
00:09:15 to your analytics solution, stand-alone, nothing to do with your transactional system,
00:09:21 and then you would do work in your analytics solution, and you would have insights,
00:09:26 but those insights would have been completely unrelated to your transactional system.
00:09:32 So, actually, you would take a note and then go to your transactional system
00:09:37 and continue 50% of the work, or repeat 50% of the work, again,
00:09:41 which, of course, doesn't make sense. So now, with this SAC embedded in S/4HANA
00:09:48 you can directly embed the SAC story, the analytical part
00:09:54 into your S/4HANA launchpad. What I want to show you
00:09:58 are the SAP Cloud Platform smart features. They allow even non-analytics experts
00:10:05 to get valuable insights from their business data. And here I show you how easy it is
00:10:10 to create my own dashboard. So, I can ask any question,
00:10:13 and then I can just copy this to a new canvas page in this overview here.
00:10:18 And let me make that a bit larger, and then what we can even do
00:10:23 is add a text description, So here again, a machine-learning model
00:10:28 is running in the back, analyzing all this data, and then having a natural language generation
00:10:35 created for us, such that we can easily combine this and embed this in our dashboard.
00:10:41 So I think, when it comes to democratizing analytics, that this is a game-changer.
00:10:48 SAC builds such a dashboard automatically for you, and it is something that only SAP can
deliver.
00:10:55 Why is that? The data model that we use here
00:10:58 is the same that we use in our applications. It is only possible because of HANA,
00:11:03 because we store data at the lowest level of granularity. With that you have the ultimate
flexibility.
00:11:09 You can do anything, you can run these complex machine-running orders,
00:11:12 you can do anything you want, and this is life data.
00:11:16 It's not the case that each and every user has a copy of that data,
00:11:21 which is probably outdated very soon, but you have one, single source of truth.
00:11:27 It is updated with every transaction in your operational system.
00:11:32 So that is very impressive, and we as SAP are embedding this into our applications.
00:11:40 In the last nine months I met 250-ish customers or so,
00:11:45 in a bit more of an intimate setting than this one here, and I asked many of them
00:11:51 how they do one more important task, which is actually CEO-relevant even.
00:11:57 This is planning. SAP Analytics Cloud is also our offering for planning,
00:12:04 and we will migrate many of our separate planning solutions to SAP Analytics Cloud over time.

3
00:12:10 Of course, you can again leverage your actual data, predictive capabilities, and use this for
planning.
00:12:17 Today, here at Teched in Barcelona, Juergen and I - suspense - announcing the general
availability
00:12:27 of Data Warehouse Cloud for the end of this year. I think it's really important
00:12:31 that when we think of data warehousing, we think about the use case that we deliver.
00:12:36 It's not about the product itself or the mode of delivery.
00:12:40 So, based on that philosophy, Data Warehouse Cloud is really the next step
00:12:44 in SAP's data warehousing offering. So, for all of our customers and partners,
00:12:49 for example, if you are on BW4 or you are on HANA, Data Warehouse Cloud directly connects

00:12:56 to your on-prem solution, and you can run it together as one hybrid data warehouse.
00:13:02 In fact, I have one more announcement to make. Yeah, this is an update, any news?
00:13:05 There is some news to be shared, because today we are also officially announcing
00:13:10 the beta of Business Objects Suite 4.3 for December this year.
00:13:15 Do you really want to maximize the value that you get out of data?
00:13:19 I mean, you think about maximizing the use of data, it's really about three key things.
00:13:24 It's about understanding and learning from the past, it's about being aware of the now,
00:13:30 and it's about planning and predicting the future. So, let's come to the next topic,
00:13:36 which is application development and integration. Remember my opening statement on
developers
00:13:44 and developer's life? So we want to make the life of developers better
00:13:48 with a great development environment. And today, I am happy to announce
00:13:53 a big step forward in this direction with SAP Business Application Studio.
00:14:02 It is an evolution of the current development environment, SAP Web IDE.
00:14:09 The Web IDE will remain the development environment for neo-customers,
00:14:15 and SAP Business Application Studio will be the new development environment
00:14:21 for the SAP Cloud Foundry environment. A few words about SAP Business Application Studio.

00:14:29 It's a modular development environment, it's based on open-source standards,

00:14:33 it's based on open source, and its true power comes with compatibility,
00:14:40 with visual studio code extensions. A solution, called SAP Cloud Platform Extension Factory,
00:14:48 it provides you with four things. First, it gives you connectivity capabilities
00:14:54 to connect SAP solutions to SAP Cloud Platform. Second, the Cloud Application Programming
Model,
00:15:01 CAP, gives you all the tools to develop SAP extensions in the cloud.
00:15:07 Third, the SAP Cloud Software Development Kit, the SDK, that gives you access to all APIs
00:15:16 in the Business Hub. And fourth, sometimes undervalued,
00:15:21 but I think it's a big thing, the Cloud Platform Enterprise Messaging.
00:15:26 It provides you with an event pass for all SAP solutions. With SAP UI5,
00:15:33 we provide you with different Web technology options, and I quickly want to go through those.

00:15:40 So, this here gives you a choice of how to enable SAP Fiori such that you get all the
advantages,
00:15:49 including enterprise-proven accessibility. Also, with UI5 you get the commitment from SAP
00:15:57 that we do not make unnecessary incompatible changes, unlike other Web framework
vendors.
00:16:04 When the new version comes out, it doesn't work with the older version anymore.

4
00:16:07 Let me show you one of the proof points regarding integration,
00:16:12 where it is about the user experience harmonization. This here might look familiar to many of
you.
00:16:19 Here you see various header bars of SAP solutions that we have been developing.
00:16:26 And you see they are quite different, right? For a design-to-operate process, as an end user,

00:16:32 you would then experience UIs of 14 different systems.

00:16:37 With the introduction of Fiori 3, we are harmonizing these experiences
00:16:43 into a consistent and modern user experience. This includes theming, font, iconography,
colors,
00:16:52 behaviors of those systems, and so on. Let's now come to the intelligence part.
00:16:59 Before I became CTO of SAP, I was SAP's first Chief Innovation Officer.
00:17:06 And in that role, my team and I introduced machine learning on a broad scale at SAP.
00:17:12 Actually, at Sapphire 2018, we were bold and promised to include 16 machine learning cases

00:17:20 in SAP applications within the next three years, so by mid 2021.
00:17:26 I'm happy to announce today that by the end of this year, 2019, we will have more than 200
00:17:34 machine learning cases live. And you see machine learning embedded in S/HANA, in
C/4HANA,
00:17:40 in SuccessFactors, in Arriba, in Concur. So, soon it will be very hard to find any SAP solution

00:17:46 without machine learning embedded. And these 200 do not even include
00:17:50 the ones that come with Qualtrics, who also have machine learning.
00:17:53 Imagine you have dozens, or hundreds, of machine learning scenarios running in parallel.
00:17:58 This won't scale, unless you have the right tooling, or versioning, or auditing of any changes.
00:18:05 You need to have proof. Which training data went into the model?
00:18:07 Who touched the model? Who changed it?
00:18:10 With SAP Data Intelligence, you can manage the end-to-end
00:18:15 lifecycle of your machine learning project. So, to sum up once more,
00:18:19 SAP Data Intelligence provides you data management capabilities,
00:18:23 combined with an open-source environment for data scientists,
00:18:27 all with a purpose to confidently develop, deploy, and operate machine learning models at
enterprise scale.
00:18:35 So, if you want to help your companies be a front runner in machine learning,
00:18:41 help push this topic in your companies as well. We make it very easy
00:18:46 to do machine learning projects in the SAP environment.
00:18:50 I am happy to share with you today that we created and delivered
00:18:58 the next Intelligent RPA best practice package for S/4HANA.
00:19:04 This is RPA content directly integrated in S/4HANA in the areas of finance,
00:19:11 of sales distribution, and procurement. So, give me two more minutes to wrap up.
00:19:17 Let me quickly summarize the key takeaways. SAP helps you to combine
00:19:23 operational data and experience data, and it's infusing intelligence along the way.
00:19:29 We have always been a leader for enterprise applications. We continue to harmonize our
solutions
00:19:34 along end-to-end processes, today you learned more about C/4HANA.
00:19:39 From experience, the combination of X-data and O-data can make a massive difference.
00:19:46 You can leverage for that, you can leverage the Cloud Platform,

5
00:19:49 Qualtrics Developer Platform, Analytics Cloud to really gain new insights.
00:19:54 On intelligence, we not only introduced the Business Technology Platform,
00:19:59 but we also shared a number of new announcements in Las Vegas, or in Barcelona, and here
today.
00:20:05 I will not go through them in detail, but you will see them online, and if you haven't,
00:20:11 also, of course, I invite you to watch the replays of the other keynotes.
00:20:15 Thank you very much.

Tutorial 1: SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning

00:00:05 Hello everyone. Welcome to our video about the Business Technology Platform,
00:00:10 and today we talk about SAP Analytics Cloud planning. And for that, I have the expert,
Michael, here with me.
00:00:18 And planning is such an interesting topic. I talk to so many customers,
00:00:22 and whenever I ask them how they do planning, some of them got one silo right,
00:00:28 but I'm still to meet the customer who nailed integrated planning across all different areas.
00:00:35 Michael, what do you see? Why do customers turn to SAP for planning?
00:00:39 Well firstly, Juergen, thank you so much for having me here today.
00:00:42 Of course. Well, remember planning is a cyclical process
00:00:46 that is continuous. So we start with the preparation phase
00:00:50 through to scheduling, then we look at prediction, go into the actual planning phase itself,
00:00:56 and then we do some validation of the plan. And then you essentially repeat that over and over
again.
00:01:03 But as you know, today's climate, the economic climate, is incredibly volatile.
00:01:09 And customers are asking us, how can we reduce the time that that cycle takes?
00:01:14 So we can be more reactive yet still have accurate plans in a quicker time frame.
00:01:18 Agree. Now, we can provide that,
00:01:21 but there are some big challenges we see in customers. Firstly, when we look at their current
implementations for plans,
00:01:28 very often, planning is separated into different silos. And I'm talking about separation of
processes and the data,
00:01:36 which means you don't get a global optimization of a plan, instead you get a local optimization
of a plan.
00:01:42 And so without that view, it becomes very difficult for us to achieve the right result
00:01:47 and to achieve a business objective. Secondly, with Big Data, you're seeing this explosion
00:01:53 of Big Data is creating a very challenging problem for planners because we don't know what
data is irrelevant
00:02:02 and what is relevant that could affect the plan. So that's another challenge.
00:02:07 And the third challenge is collaboration. How you get all these different people to work together

00:02:12 in a single place so you can quickly execute on a plan? Yeah, and that matches with what I
learned
00:02:18 from customers regarding planning, because it's good if you have one silo that is optimized,
00:02:24 but it's worth nothing if that doesn't fit to the others' plans.
00:02:27 Exactly. Can you show us a bit how we help our customers?
00:02:31 Sure, I'd love to. So, imagine you're the CFO of a beer company,
00:02:37 and you're reviewing the current situation of the company. And you're looking at your current
plan.
00:02:42 Well here, I can see my profit and loss, I can see my budget, my actuals, my key product
categories,
00:02:48 but also I can see my key KPIs. One of the important ones here
00:02:52 that I can see is I'm not going to hit my operating profit by the end of the year.
00:02:56 So, what can we do about this? Well, I'd like to go to the market overview
00:03:00 and see what the impact is there. Now, one of the cool things about SAC
00:03:05 for planning is that we can actually incorporate X-data and O-data, so bringing Qualtrics and
the operational data together.

7
00:03:13 And we can see that actually the average product diversification satisfaction is not great.
00:03:18 And what does that mean in reality? It simply means that there aren't enough products
00:03:21 in that category that is satisfying the customer, so we need to do something about this.
00:03:26 In terms of where we could grow, well, if we look at the CAGR growth rates,
00:03:30 Asia Pacific is an option. So let's go to our growth plan.
00:03:34 Right, so if we go up to the growth plan, we're going to go up here, you're going to see on the
right,
00:03:39 I've got my different product categories in the hierarchy, and I'm going to simply just add
another member,
00:03:44 which means adding another product line. And then once I've added that new pale ale into this
group,
00:03:50 I'm then just going to simply copy over some example data from another beer, just to quickly
show you this example.
00:03:57 In reality, I'd put in some different numbers. Just to speed up this process, we're going to copy
this in
00:04:02 and then we're going to see the impact on our growth strategy. This is very simple.
00:04:06 Obviously behind that, we need to start investing. So let's go to our supply chain.
00:04:11 Right, we can actually integrate our integrated business planning solution,
00:04:14 which is, you know, handle sales and operations planning, demand supply planning,
00:04:18 right into our SAP Analytics Cloud. So what I can do is, for example,
00:04:23 just as a quick simulation, increase the number of additional shifts and see what the impact
would be.
00:04:29 But that's, you know, that's a bit quick, really. That's a bit easy.
00:04:33 What you really need to do is take a long term investment and actually invest in some
headcount.
00:04:37 So, let's go to Hires here in the headcount planning, and we're going to add, say, 30 in
January.
00:04:46 We'll just add in the number there. And then once we've done that, we have data actions,
00:04:51 which we can actually program into the application and customize them, and then that
00:04:55 can then populate our P and L statement. For example, in this in this table.
00:05:01 And then we see the impact on our cash flows and our projected plan going forwards.
00:05:06 And this has shown how we can bring all these different areas of business together
00:05:10 to work on a single version of plan. Yeah, that is amazing to see
00:05:13 because you have the actuals, you have the overview of what is going on, but then you close
the loop
00:05:19 because you see that there's some action needed, and you can directly go into what we saw
00:05:24 as a market overview, having external data, plus the growth plan in this case here,
00:05:30 adjust supply chain, hire people. And you can do all of that
00:05:33 because, if my understanding is correct, SAP solutions are behind this and we integrate nicely

00:05:38 with our planning into these solutions. Is that correct?

00:05:41 Absolutely. And this is all a part of our HANA Cloud Services strategy.
00:05:45 And, you know, if you want to find out more, please go and visit sapanalytics.cloud
00:05:50 and you get all the information there. I think that's a game changer.
00:05:54 Michael, thank you so much. Thank you, Juergen.
00:05:56 Thanks a lot everyone. And look out for more videos to come
00:05:59 regarding the Business Technology Platform.

Tutorial 2: SAP HANA Cloud

00:00:05 Welcome everyone. This is part of our new video series about the
00:00:09 Business Technology Platform. Today, I have Gerrit Kazmaier with me.
00:00:14 Hey, Juergen. Hey, Gerrit.
00:00:15 Because companies have to be data driven, and each and every company wants to become a
data-driven enterprise.
00:00:21 And for that, who better could I have than our head of HANA and Analytics.
00:00:26 Today the focus is on SAP HANA Cloud. So, Gerrit, tell us a bit more about SAP HANA Cloud.

00:00:33 I think it all starts with the tremendous excitement that all of our customers have when working
with data.
00:00:39 And yet, everyone is so excited, but everyone is struggling to get value out of the data they
have.
00:00:45 Most of our customers, they have petabytes worth of data, and yet they're only leveraging
terabytes.
00:00:50 This is because many data lakes turn to be data swamps. It's because machine learning
projects sometimes,
00:00:56 or most of the time, don't get beyond the demo stage. And because self-service projects fail
because of
00:01:03 lack of trust in data. And it's really because the value chain of data
00:01:07 got disconnected. So how you store data, how you manage quality,
00:01:11 to how you put it to effective use. And this is why we invented the HANA Cloud services
00:01:16 as part of the Business Technology Platform. You know, one simple way to work with all data
00:01:21 of any kind. Whether its big or small, in the cloud or on premise,
00:01:26 or at rest or in a stream. You know, one simple gateway to work with data.
00:01:29 Nice, that sounds amazing and many customers want to have it.
00:01:33 Can you show us a glimpse of that? Yeah, for sure.
00:01:35 How about we look at short demo together Let's do that.
00:01:38 All right. So what you find here is the cloud cockpit
00:01:42 of our Cloud Platform. And HANA Cloud is directly integrated into it.
00:01:46 So what we do now, is create a new instance. We specify the instance name,
00:01:51 we give it, obviously, a password for administration purposes. A short description,
00:01:56 and then we're heading off to step two. This is where we configure the HANA Cloud instance.
00:02:00 We define how much memory it should have, how many virtual CPUs it gets,
00:02:05 and how much storage it has associated with it. In the next step, some of the most exciting
pieces
00:02:11 in HANA Cloud is we provisioned a data lake. And the data lake is really for HANA to go
beyond
00:02:16 main memory limitations. You define how many CPUs, again,
00:02:20 how many terabytes of storage. And then you can define how many readers
00:02:24 and writers you have. So it scales elastically.
00:02:27 And that's really the point of HANA Cloud, it's making HANA Internet scale.
00:02:31 So you can work data, in memory, on disc, in a lake, or with data even in hyper scaler storage

00:02:38 in an object store system. That's amazing, this is what we need.

00:02:42 This is what our customers need. Very good.
00:02:45 Which use cases do you see? Well, we have to accommodate for the fact that many

9
00:02:49 of our customers have large on-premise systems as of today. So, one of the first use cases is
that you scale out
00:02:56 into the cloud with HANA Cloud. That could be for data archiving,
00:03:00 and it could be for moving some workloads to the cloud, which is likely decoupled from the
application context,
00:03:05 such as analytics. Next use case, very important is using the data lake that
00:03:10 we just saw from their storage. IUT scenarios, manufacturing cases,
00:03:14 accumulating masses of data, and with the data lake, you have an easy option
00:03:18 to store it away and then put it to use for HANA again.
00:03:22 And ultimately, the federation capabilities. The third use case.
00:03:25 This is where we use HANA Cloud as a connector to any data storage you have in your
enterprise.
00:03:31 And you connect them, and make them virtually accessible through HANA.
00:03:34 So it's always fast and always available. Nice, where can we learn more about this?
00:03:38 Just check out the link at the bottom of this video. Very good, Gerrit.
00:03:42 I think that was very, very informative. SAP HANA Cloud will help enterprises
00:03:47 become data-driven enterprises. And they can do all of that with SAP HANA Cloud.
00:03:51 Gerrit, thank you so much. Thank you.

Tutorial 3: SAP Data Warehouse Cloud

00:00:05 Welcome everyone to our video series related to the Business Technology Platform.
00:00:10 Today, we talk about Data Warehouse Cloud and I'm very happy to have Torsten here,
00:00:15 who is the head of Data Warehouse offerings. And, Torsten, while we continue to deliver
00:00:22 on-premise solutions, Data Warehouse Cloud is our go-to solution.
00:00:27 Which problems does Data Warehouse Cloud solve? We all are aware that organizations
00:00:33 need to empower their business users. Our environment changes fast,
00:00:38 business and technology. Today, business users have a hard time getting their data.
00:00:44 We need to empower business users, and they currently only can get manual extracts.
00:00:50 It's hard for them to keep their spreadsheets up- to-date. They age over time and they even
end up having disc shares
00:00:58 and it's really a hard time to keeping in sync. But that's not how it should be.
00:01:03 Exactly. Let me show what it looks like. That would be good.
00:01:07 Assuming you're an insights analyst and one of the typical analysis is Customer 360 Fuel.
00:01:14 In most of the cases, 80% of your needed data exists in one of your central systems.
00:01:20 Let me start in your own space and connect to any kind of central HANA system.
00:01:24 And we access our data virtually. As we want to combine two of our central data sets,
00:01:29 we join it and enrich it with a formula, which is called governed data set.
00:01:35 This can be done once and provided to different business units via spaces.
00:01:40 But as described before, it's only 80%. So we want to leverage 20% of our data,
00:01:46 which is a local Excel file. We both combine them, we upload this Excel file,
00:01:51 enrich it to our existing governed data set, and then, finally, we have the possibility to use
00:01:57 our SAC Capabilities and visualize our data. Okay, so if I see that correctly,
00:02:05 Data Warehouse Cloud tackles the challenge that many organizations have.
00:02:09 Disparate data sets, many different systems, now you can bring those together,
00:02:13 have the semantical modeling here. And you can use SAP Analytics Cloud for visual reports.
00:02:19 Exactly. Nice, what are customers saying?
00:02:22 We get a lot of positive feedback. Our customers really like that we have one solution,
00:02:27 which helps them from collecting their data, modeling data, and you're getting insights
00:02:33 via our visualization tool. We had a really successful beta program
00:02:37 with over 2,000 trial applicants. That's amazing.
00:02:41 And now, even in our trial program, we have 1,000 applications.
00:02:49 Very good, very good. Where can everyone learn more about this?
00:02:53 We have a 30 day trial available, which you can find under sap.com/datawarehousecloud.
00:03:02 And you're ready to go. Sounds amazing.
00:03:03 Very good. So this is what you need to know.
00:03:06 Look it up and try the trial. Torsten, thank you very much for that session
00:03:12 on Data Warehouse Cloud. Look out for more videos related
00:03:15 to the Business Technology Platform. Torsten, thank you.
00:03:19 Thank you.

Tutorial 4: SAP Data Intelligence

00:00:05 Hi everyone, and welcome to our video series on the Business Technology Platform.
00:00:10 Today it's all about Data Intelligence. And I'm very happy to have Jana with me.
00:00:16 Jana is the chief product owner in that area. Jana, we know that many, many projects
00:00:22 in machine learning spend a lot of time on data acquisition, data cleansing, many projects do
00:00:29 not even make it to production. Where do we stand at SAP?
00:00:34 How are we helping our customers? Well SAP has three main approaches to
00:00:38 how to bring machine learning to customers, and how to help with projects, catering
00:00:43 to the different needs of customers. First of all, of course, we continue
00:00:47 to embed machine learning into SAP solutions, and into key processes,
00:00:51 thus making the Intelligent Enterprise a reality. Secondly, we provide SAP AI Business
Services
00:00:57 for Cloud Platform customers, so developers can instantly use
00:01:01 those services in their own projects. And thirdly, we provide a platform
00:01:05 with SAP Data Intelligence, for customers to create their own machine learning models.
00:01:10 It sounds great. Regarding Data Intelligence, do you want
00:01:13 to show us a bit more about that? Yeah, sure.
00:01:16 Let me first explain a bit, what it is. Well, Data Intelligence is a platform
00:01:20 that provides data management capabilities, in combination with an open source environment,
for data scientists.
00:01:27 So, it allows you to extract data from various sources, and to create
00:01:31 and run machine learning models, at enterprise scale. Well, let's look at Data Intelligence, in
action
00:01:37 and for this, let's take an example of a payment risk prediction case, where we would like
00:01:42 to identify customers pretty quickly in time, who are at risk of not paying, and to identify
suitable actions
00:01:49 for how to make them pay. Sounds good.
00:01:52 Well, for this, let's use Data Intelligence. First of all, we can use the Metadata Explorer,
00:01:57 to connect all your data sources. That's a very seamless experience
00:02:00 and you can use direct native adapters, to the different back ends.
00:02:04 Like in this case, a connecter to an ABAP back-end, an S/4 system with financial data.
00:02:10 So, which other tool allows you to have a native connection in a secure manner to ABAP CDS
views?
00:02:16 None. Indeed.
00:02:18 In the next step, we can use pipelines to combine the data and to operationalize the data
integration processes.
00:02:27 So in this example, we combine the financial data with Qualtrics experience data, into one
common data set.
00:02:34 We used the exact same environment for data scientists. So they can start creating machine
learning models,
00:02:41 training machine learning models, in the same environment, and really using the data that
00:02:46 we have brought together beforehand. Data scientists feel right at home,
00:02:50 because they can create Python coding in Jupyter Notebooks right away.
00:02:55 For this sample scenario, customers are now clustered according to
00:02:58 the most appropriate follow-up action, which is based on dispute history, customer
touchpoints,

12
00:03:03 and customer satisfaction data. We can use the result in the pipeline to feed the
00:03:08 next process steps and to run a payment risk prediction. That is now available for the whole
enterprise
00:03:15 and the whole landscape, and we can feed it, for example, into SAP Analytics Cloud.
00:03:21 Now, imagine you have dozens of machine learning scenarios running in parallel.
00:03:25 Then, of course, you have to take care of Lifecycle Management end to end,
00:03:29 like versioning, like secure access, like logging when the last training happened, by whom.
00:03:34 Isn't this a powerful way of creating and running your AI projects?
00:03:38 Yeah, that sounds really like the ability for companies to do that at scale.
00:03:43 Because each and every company hires machine learning data scientists,
00:03:46 and actually where they have challenges with this is running machine learning at scale.
00:03:53 And this is, if I understood correctly, exactly the value proposition, that if you do that
00:03:58 in an SAP environment, SAP Data Intelligence is the tool, for you.
00:04:03 Jana, what is next? Yeah, of course,
00:04:06 we continuously extend the capabilities and the features. So something we recently added is,
for example, AutoML,
00:04:12 in SAP Data Intelligence, which really allows you, with a wizard, to define what you would like
to achieve,
00:04:19 and to even automate the whole process, of creating machine learning models.
00:04:23 It sounds very good. Jana, where can we learn more about this?
00:04:26 Well, best is to visit the website, www.sap.com/ai to get more information
00:04:33 about the whole artificial intelligence topics. Jana, thank you very much.
00:04:37 I think that was very, very helpful and everyone, watch out for more videos about the Business
Technology Platform.
00:04:44 Jana, thank you very much. Thanks a lot.

Tutorial 5: SAP Cloud Platform Extension Factory

00:00:05 Hi everyone, welcome to our video series on

00:00:07 the Business Technology Platform. This time it's about Cloud Platform extensions.
00:00:13 And I couldn't have anyone better with me than Rui, who is the chief product expert in this
area.
00:00:19 So, many customers ask me, ask SAP,
00:00:23 how do I extend my SAP applications? And I don't have only one application,
00:00:29 and I don't have only one extension, and I need to build it,
00:00:32 I need to operate it, I need to deploy all of that,
00:00:36 manage the life cycle. So, Rui.
00:00:38 Yeah, that's actually true, so often the business processes from a customer
00:00:42 don't only touch one system but multiple systems,
00:00:45 like S4 or success factors and in the demo scenario that I will show,
00:00:50 we will actually be assigning a technician to a task in customer project and this is triggered by

00:00:56 a creation of a service order in the S/4HANA Cloud. And to ensure that the technician is
00:01:03 available in that point in time we look up the information in SuccessFactors.
00:01:06 So, how would that now work in an extension? So, in the first step of this demo,
00:01:12 you can actually see that connecting to the systems is as easy as pairing
00:01:18 the handsfree of your smart phone with your car,
00:01:22 so you gain a token on the Cloud Platform, you provide it in the respective
00:01:26 UI of the S/4HANA Cloud system, and once the pairing is completed
00:01:32 the developer can access all the APIs, and the events of that system.
00:01:36 In the second step, you as a developer then create
00:01:39 service instances, both to events and the APIs. Also very straight forward for
00:01:45 the SuccessFactors system, and in the third step, you actually start
00:01:48 developing the actual extension. You're using CAP to develop the data model
00:01:54 as well to register to the event, which you see here in the code.
00:02:00 And you use the cloud SDK to actually connect and use the APIs of the S/4
00:02:07 and SuccessFactors systems. So these components really help you to create
00:02:12 your business logic. And finally, as a last step,
00:02:16 the business logic is done, you create the user interface for your extension,
00:02:19 and what you get is an event-triggered extension touching multiple systems.
00:02:26 I love the part of events, because then you can really then easily connect
00:02:31 into what is happening in the transactional systems. Decoupling the systems more or less.
00:02:35 Anything else, what feedback do you get from customers
00:02:38 that you want to share? So, customers love the easy way
00:02:42 how this is done. Of course, we are not done with everything,
00:02:46 so what we are doing in the extension factory is to really connect all those various components

00:02:52 together so that they work seamlessly together, so that customers can concentrate
00:02:57 on their business domain and really have all the system connected
00:03:00 very easily to create extensions for the Intelligent Enterprise.
00:03:04 That's great, they want the best of both worlds, they want the best applications,
00:03:08 end to end delivered by SAP, and then they want to have extension points,

14
00:03:12 like events, in order to create their own business logic on top.
00:03:16 Rui, where can we learn more about this? You can learn more about this on sap.com,
00:03:21 on the page for the SAP Cloud Platform, around the credibility of extensions
00:03:26 and you can actually buy all of this with the Cloud Platform Enterprise Agreement,
00:03:30 all with one contract only. That sounds great for our customers.
00:03:34 Rui, thank you so much. So, that was it for today regarding
00:03:37 SAP Cloud Platform extensions. Rui, thank you so much.
00:03:40 Yeah, thank you. And everyone look out for more videos to come
00:03:44 regarding Business Technology Platform. Thank you so much.
00:03:47 Bye.

15
Tutorial 6: SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite

00:00:05 Hi, everyone, welcome to our video tutorial series on the Business Technology Platform.
00:00:11 This time, it's about SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite.
00:00:16 And with me is Udo. Udo is product manager for Cloud Platform Integration Suite.
00:00:21 And when we prepared for TechEd, we learned that the most common connections
00:00:27 that we have are actually from SAP to government systems, but, of course, also SAP to SAP,
and SAP to non-SAP.
00:00:34 Udo, why don't you share some more details with us. Yes, definitely, thanks, Juergen, for the
question.
00:00:39 And definitely, SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite definitely supports integration with
eDocument scenarios,
00:00:45 so that customers can stay compliant with multiple e-government scenarios around the globe.
00:00:51 Another cool use case is the integration of SAP as well as non-SAP applications.
00:00:56 The integration of business partners, via different industry standards like EDI.
00:01:00 And last but not least, also API-based integration.
00:01:05 Makes a lot of sense. I do see the SAP API Business Hub here.
00:01:09 Do you want to show us something? Yes, definitely, Juergen.
00:01:12 So, the starting point for integration is the SAP API Business Hub.
00:01:15 So here, customers can find all the prepackaged integration content,
00:01:19 and the APIs that are readily available for our customers,
00:01:23 like the eDocument scenarios that we were talking about before,
00:01:27 as well as integration of non-SAP applications, in this case, the integration of Salesforce,
00:01:31 we provide an end-to-end integration scenario for the integration of S/4HANA Cloud with
Salesforce,
00:01:38 including documents, the integration flows that can be configured and deployed
00:01:43 on the SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite. Then another use case is API-based integration.

00:01:49 So here, with the API management capabilities, customers can nicely view, for example,
00:01:54 what are the most frequently used APIs in my landscape.
00:01:58 And last but not least, we have a long, long list
00:02:02 of non-SAP connectivity options, which allows customers again to easily integrate
00:02:07 with all kinds of non-SAP applications, be it Microsoft Dynamics, Amazon S3,
00:02:14 in this case, and so on. With one nice, harmonized UI, customers can easily integrate
00:02:19 with all these different non-SAP applications. Udo, when we talk about
00:02:23 the Business Technology Platform, we always also talk about business centricity.
00:02:28 Regarding the Cloud Platform Integration Suite, how do we make it simple for customers to
leverage this?
00:02:34 Yes, that's also a very good point. So, we simplify and accelerate integration
00:02:38 via the SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite, and namely via our prepackaged content.
00:02:43 So do not only ship an infrastructure, app integration platform as a service,
00:02:48 but prepackaged content for the integration with more than 1,300 integration scenarios
00:02:54 in more than 1,100 APIs. Wow, that sounds amazing.
00:02:59 This really helps customers to get value quickly. Where can we learn more about this?
00:03:04 Yes, Juergen, and on the sap.com pages, just search for SAP Cloud Platform Integration
Suite.
00:03:10 You can find a lot more information, tutorials, guides, trial tenants,

16
00:03:15 and you can get started with the integration suite. Sounds very good.
00:03:19 Udo, thank you so much, and thanks, everyone, for listening.
00:03:24 Watch out for more information around the video tutorials with regard
00:03:28 to the Business Technology Platform. Udo, thank you very much.
00:03:31 Thank you, Juergen, it was a pleasure.

17
Tutorial 7: SAP Graph

00:00:05 Hi, everyone. Welcome to our video series

00:00:08 about the Business Technology Platform. And today it's about a topic that got the most
attention,
00:00:15 I would say, at SAP TechEd. It's about SAP Graph.
00:00:19 And I couldn't be happier to have Christian with me. Christian is the lead developer for SAP
Graph.
00:00:26 Christian, many people know about SAP Graph, many don't yet. What is the business
challenge that we are addressing?
00:00:33 So in general, SAP Graph makes life more easy for developers who want to access data
00:00:38 of the Intelligent Enterprise in order to create extensions for the Intelligent Enterprise in the
cloud.
00:00:42 So that's a bold statement. So let me explain that a bit.
00:00:45 So when developers want to access data of the Intelligent Enterprise,
00:00:49 they have in mind some business objects, probably relationships to these business objects.
00:00:54 But when they look at the Intelligent Enterprise, they'll probably notice that it's not a single
application.
00:00:59 I mean, it's actually a huge setup of SAP products working together as a whole.
00:01:05 So the question for the developer is now, where can I get my data out?
00:01:08 What is the right system to call? Or, if they look at all the APIs of all our products,
00:01:14 they will see that they are different, actually. Different protocols, different authentication
mechanisms.
00:01:19 So a developer needs to have quite deep knowledge about these applications and also how
they are integrated.
00:01:25 So now SAP Graph comes into play. So, what we are offering is a harmonized API layer,
00:01:32 which is holistically looking at Intelligent Enterprise and completely abstracting away all the
technical details
00:01:40 of the Intelligent Enterprise. That makes a lot of sense.
00:01:42 So that would make my life as a developer much, much easier. Can we get a bit deeper?
00:01:48 Can you explain a bit how it really works? Sure, sure.
00:01:51 I can show you something. So here we can see the API Explorer.
00:01:56 This is a tool that comes with SAP Graph, that comes with the API.
00:02:00 And this allows me to browse all my business objects and also to immediately try out calls to
the back end.
00:02:06 So we have a provided sandbox environment where you can just try out your calls.
00:02:10 So in this example here, I would just navigate to my customers
00:02:14 and I want to get the customer resource. So what I'm doing now is
00:02:17 I'm filtering for a particular customer, in this case called Farrell
00:02:24 and run just the query and I see the results. So now what I want to do is see all the sales quote

00:02:30 of this particular customer. So how to get there?

00:02:33 The only thing I need to do is navigate to this particular customer and just add an additional
path segment for the sales quotes
00:02:41 and enter the query. And here we can see the sales quote
00:02:45 of this particular customer. And did you see something?
00:02:48 I never specified any systems in the back end. I just use my plain domain objects, navigate
through them

18
00:02:53 and have my results. Okay, so you say that in the world before SAP Graph,
00:02:59 a developer would have to go find all these different systems,
00:03:03 understand where the leading customer, for example, will be, where I would find my sales
orders.
00:03:08 And now I can do all of that easily with SAP Graph. Exactly, that's what it's about.
00:03:12 How does that relate to our API Business Hub? So they are both part of our API strategy.
00:03:18 So, the API Business Hub is more focused on products, SAP products, so it's quite centric.
00:03:22 So you can get all the information you need for particular products, you can even get ready- to-
use
00:03:27 integration flows to integrate these applications. And SAP Graph, on the other hand,
00:03:32 has a holistic view on the Intelligent Enterprise. So it comes with its own API, which is
harmonized
00:03:37 and actually allows you, as a developer, to concentrate on the business semantics
00:03:42 rather than technical issues and the systems. Okay, so you say, on api.sap.com, I can go
deep.
00:03:48 I have all the information that is out there, and SAP Graph gives me a broad overview of a line
API
00:03:56 that I can immediately use. Exactly, that's what it's about.
00:03:58 Nice. Where can everyone learn more about this?
00:04:02 Yeah, so we have a homepage, graph.sap, so check this out to get the latest news.
00:04:07 Perfect. Christian, I think that was very insightful,
00:04:10 very helpful to me, I hope very helpful to all of you and look out for more videos
00:04:15 related to the Business Technology Platform. Christian, thank you very much.
00:04:19 Thank you very much, Juergen.
