Olympic boxing - Rio 2016

This year’s summer Olympics will take place at Rio de Janerio of Brazil. It will begin on August 5
and end by August 21. The official name for the Olympics this year is the Games of XXXI
Olympiad but it is also known as Rio 2016. There are 33 venues in Rio de Janerio, the host city.
There will be 28 different types of sports among which boxing is one of the exciting sports.

Boxing is a form of martial art where two players hit each other with protective gloves. There
is a time set for the duration of rounds which is usually between one and three minutes. There
are different categories of boxing like amateur boxing and professional boxing. Stance, punches
and defense are few moves of this game. 13 categories are there this time, three for women
and ten for men. The list of men’s events include light flyweight (49kg), Flyweight (52kg),
Bantamweight (56kg), Lightweight (60kg), Light welterweight (64kg), Welterweight (69kg),
Middleweight (75kg), Light heavyweight (81kg), Heavyweight (91kg), Super

set of medals with 250 men and 36 women. The venue for this game is Riocentro – Pavilion 6.

The game format this year is similar to that of 2012. Excel Exhibition Center was the venue for
that year and the game was held from July 28 to August 12. The number of participants and
events were exactly same as the coming game. Russia won the maximum number of medals in
boxing, 6, but Great Britain won 3 gold medals and 5 medals in total.

The environment for the Rio 2016 will be suitable for games because most of the venues are
chosen to be reached in less than 10 minutes and some in 25 minutes. The winter weather will
help retain the energy of the players. The city is undergoing some preparation for the huge
event to add the feel of celebration for sports. So let’s wait until Rio de Janerio opens the doors
of the Summer Olympics 2016!
