Getting started with PDF Max 5

File Management Essentials


Library is where all your local documents stored
• Converted is a special folder that contains
all PDF documents converted from Web
pages within Safari or Chrome via PDF Max
PDF Maker extension. Only Premium users
can access to Converted folder.
• Files and folders can be viewed in
Thumbnail View mode or List View mode.
• An orange dot means the document has not
been opened.
• Scroll down to reveal the hidden toolbar
Thumbnail View mode:
• Tap a file name to Rename
• Tap and hold a file or folder to perform Drag
& Drop action
• Tap Edit button at the top right to switch to
Edit mode

Edit mode:
• Tap a file or folder to select, tap a selected
item to deselect it.
• All the actions can be found on the left bar
on iPad. On iPhone, it located at the bottom.
The More button on iPhone uses to show
more actions for the selected items.
• Tap Done to exit the Edit mode. You can
also tap anywhere at the space below
thumbnails to exit the Edit mode.

List View mode:


• Tap any file or folder icon to switch to Edit
mode.
• Tap the space at the bottom of the file list
to exit Edit mode.
• Hold and drag a file or folder to perform
Drag & Drop action.

Servers is where to access your documents from


supported cloud services
• To Connect to a service, tap Add Service
then enter your account information.
• For cloud services which are OAuth2-based
such as Dropbox, Box, etc., only the access
token granted by the cloud service will be
stored securely in iOS Keychain.
• For non-OAuth2 services such as Windows
SMB, FTP, etc., your credentials are
encrypted and stored securely in iOS
Keychain.

Favorites is a central place to access your starred


files or folders from any file services.
• To Add a file or folder as favorite, switch to
Edit mode when viewing items in Library or
Servers section.
• Select files or folders you want to mark as
favorite, and choose Star action on the left
side on iPad, or inside “More” action on
iPhone.
• To reveal the location of the original file,
scroll down to reveal the hidden toolbar, and
switch the view mode to List View. You will
see the reveal icon on the right of each
starred item.

Recents is the place to access your recent opened


documents.
• Tap icon to reveal the location of the
original document.
• Tip: If you want to reopen your last working
document, you may want to go to Recents
instead of looking for the document
somewhere else.

Search helps you find documents from Library or


connected cloud services.
• Scroll down to reveal the hidden toolbar, in
order to sort the search results by Name,
Date or Size.
• Tap icon to reveal the location of the
document

Settings is the place for you to customize PDF


Max to make it work the way you want.
• On iPad, Settings tab can be found easily on
the left side of the File Management screen.
• On iPhone, please notice the (burger)
button at the top left corner of the File
Management screen.
• If you set up to lock the app using TouchID
or Passcode, please make sure you won’t
forget the passcode. We can’t help if you
forgot your passcode J

PDF Viewer Essentials


Default document layout on iPad and the power of
taps
• Single tap to toggle (hide or show) the right
Toolbar and the Document TabBar.
• Two-fingers tap to toggle the (left) Sidebar
and the right Toolbar.
• Three-fingers tap to bookmark the current
page.
• If the Sidebar is visible, a single tap will hide
it, single tap again to hide the Document
TabBar and the right Toolbar.
• If the Document TabBar is hidden, two-
fingers tap will show (or hide) both the
Sidebar and the right Toolbar.

Default document layout on iPhone and the


difference.
• There is no right Toolbar on iPhone, all
annotating tools can be accessed from the
orange Annotate button at the bottom
of the screen.
• Two-fingers tap works on iPhone, but better
to swipe from left to right from the
leftmost edge of the screen to show the
Sidebar. The three-fingers tap to bookmark
is not available on iPhone.
• Edit Pages and Reading Mode buttons
don’t exist at the top toolbar like on iPad, but
you can access them from the Action menu
at the top right corner.

Text selection
• Touch and hold over PDF text then drag to
select text.
• There are scanned PDF documents
without text underlying, and the selection
tool won’t work.

Batch editing tool (a.k.a selection tool)


PDF Max 5 includes the batch editing tool that
allows you to select multiple annotations and edit
their properties all together. Please notice the
icon in the Annotation Toolset on iPhone, and on
the right Toolbar on iPad.
• To select, drag a rectangle over
annotations. Please note that the batch
editing tool won’t work with text markup
annotations as they are unmovable.
• On iPhone, once you activated the selection
tool, you can deactivate it at anytime by
touching the Annotate button at the
bottom.
• On iPad, the selection tool (on the right
toolbar) will be highlighted, touch it again to
deactivate .

Object Snap Assistant


You will notice blue guidelines when moving or
resizing floating annotations such as Shapes,
Stamps or Freetext. Those guidelines are a part of
the Object Snap Assistant feature which is
designed to help you position annotations
precisely. To disable this feature, tap button in
the popup menu or the top toolbar appearing when
creating annotation.

One-Finger ScrollBars
To help scroll PDF document while annotating, PDF
Max includes two one-finger touch-and-drag
scrollbars at the bottom and on the right of the
document viewer. To scroll, touch on the scrollbar
then drag (very convenient when you work with a
stylus).
• Scrollbars may appear or disappear
depending on the current zoom ratio.
• You can disable the Scrollbars in the app
settings. There is an option named “Hide
ScrollBars when annotating”.

Customize the right Toolbar on iPad and the


Toolset on iPhone
• Tap the gear button at the bottom of the
right Toolbar on iPad. On iPhone, tap
button at the bottom of the screen.
• In the Tools popup, you can:
o Add a new Tool by tapping the +
button
o Delete existing tools by tapping Edit
button.
o Touch and hold an existing tool then
drag to reorder.
