As color is an important element which is connected with different cultures, this study will focus
on how color is perceived to be symbolic of various life events such as weddings, births and
deaths based on person's culture. Data collection method used in this study would be taking
interviews from people of different cultural backgrounds which would include a sample size of
10 people from 4 different cultures (Muslims, Hinduism, Christianity and Ismailis). The cultural
variables of the study could be divided into three categories, namely, weddings, births and
deaths. The purpose of choosing this population sample is that the study includes 4 different
cultures having different color perceptions which will determine their preferences of colors as
well as the reasons behind choosing the particular color and the similarity of colors in various
cultures. The procedure would begin with interviewing people of different cultural origins which
would include Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Ismailis and taking audio records of their
interviews. Furthermore, I will ask them about the colors their ancestors perceived and the
reasons behind adopting the particular color for that life event. The interviews would be
conducted using naturalistic approach and all the data would approximately take 6 to 7 days to
compile. The study would include audio records as well as detailed interviews. This immersion
paper will help other researchers and cross cultural psychologists to discover color perceptions of
various cultures also the similarities of colors among cultures which will eventually lead them to
explore more on it considering this study.
