CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Art, as the product of human creativity and imagination,
includes poetry, music, dance, and the material arts such as painting,
sculpture, drawing, pottery, and bodily adornment (Tedesco, 2007).
People starting or rekindling their passion for art ask the question of
what should they do, traditional art or digital art? Artists today are
more efficient through the advantage of the computer within
designing items. It ensures computers, as well as the other electronic
media, create a better design unlike the standard waist of production
planning of items. However, some arts use traditional mediums that
have existed and been developed and improved over time. It couldn’t
be digitally generated.
The artists of today seem to be more concerned about doing
something unique in itself and not something with which they relate.
Before, in their passions and affections, through their triumphs and
tragedies, the great artists captured the human condition in its raw
form, undiluted. But virtues of classical art, including the ability to
paint, have been neglected in recent decades (Guerra, 2016). The
collection of authentic, native and popular arts of every country that
have deep and firm roots in opinions, beliefs, ceremonies, habits,
customs and spiritual culture of society and the artistic activities such
as music, dance, and crafts that are passed down from one generation
to the next within families and communities and are regarded by the
community as part of their heritage, which are generally belong to
traditional arts, were marked as ‘outdated’ or becoming unnecessary.

Well, we all know that art has long not been seen as ‘necessary’ but
that is a case of semantics.
Traditional arts are unique and one-of-a-kind pieces. This means
that they cannot easily be copied, you would have to go through the
same artistic process as the artist in order to replicate it. If you want to
change African art in the eyes of the world, traditional art techniques
are the way to go (Author G., 2018). Because of this uniqueness,
traditional art has more value attached to it than digital art. Another
aspect of paintings, drawings and sculptures that affects the
distinction of traditional art is that it is seen by reflection and not by
emission. This means that it is changed by the light in the room where
it is placed, making the paint or clay look alive as you move around the
room. Digital art, unfortunately, can sometimes feel flat and
‘manufactured’ in comparison.
