Selection Process (Regular selection mode)


Step 1: Interview (Regular selection mode)
Date: 23 – 27 June 2020
Time: 0930 AM onwards
Mode: Online-Video Conferencing

Shortlisting Criteria for calling candidates to the First Step of Selection Process (Regular
selection mode)
For all candidates:
Eligibility criteria such as Qualifying Degree, Minimum CPI, or Percentage of Marks and all other
requirements as mentioned in the admission advertisement/ notification.

In addition to that
For Regular Category Candidates:

Following Option II-A for the regular candidates having GATE score:

 -The normalization factor of 1.476 is used for the year 2019 to match with year 2020
-The normalization factor of 1.283 is used for the year 2018 to match with year 2020
and Anyone of the following
1. An M.Sc. in Physics/Applied-Physics/Engineering-Physics/Materials Science/Electronics
(with a valid GATE-qualification in PHYSICS discipline ONLY) with a minimum of 60% marks
or 6 CPI (relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD candidates)*,
or
2. A B.Tech./four-year-B.S. from IIT/IISc in Engineering/Physics (with a valid GATE-
qualification in relevant area/physics) with a minimum of 7.0 CPI (relaxed by 5% marks or
0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD candidates),
or
3. A B.Tech./four-year-B.S. (other than IIT/IISc) in Applied-Physics/Engineering-Physics (with
a valid GATE-qualification in PHYSICS discipline ONLY) with a minimum of 70% marks or
7 CPI (relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD candidates),
Or
4. An M.Tech. after M.Sc./B.Tech./four-year-B.S. in Physics/Applied-Physics/Engineering-
Physics/Materials-Science/Electronics with no less than 60% marks or 6 CPI (relaxed by
5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD candidates) in M.Tech. as well as in the previous degree.

The requirement of valid GATE is exempted for the candidates with qualifying degree as Bachelor’s
(BTech/BDes) degree or Masters’ (MA/MSc) degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with
minimum CPI of 8.0 in a 10-point scale.

For Part-Time, Sponsored (Full-Time), Self-Financed (Full-Time), External Registration Category


Candidates:

All the criteria are same as regular candidates but the requirement of NET/GATE/Inspire
qualification is exempted for Sponsored (Full time)/ Employed (Part-time)/ Self-Financed (Full
Time)/ Self-Financed (Part-Time)/ IITG Project Staff (Full time)/ IITG Project Staff (Part-time)/
External Part-time/ Self-Financed and Full-time Foreign Students categories. \

Shortlisting Criteria for Interview (Regular selection mode)


All shortlisted candidates will appear for the interview.

(Final) Selection Criteria for Admission (Regular selection mode)


The final recommendation will be based on the performance of the candidates in the interview only.
