DESIGN CRITERIA & STANDARD

Standards:

We have considered for the verification of the steel members the Manual of Steel
Construction of the American Institute of Steel Construction Inc. AISC .

Deflection and drift criteria:

All members satisfy a deflection limit under service loads of L/360 and in overall the
Structure has a drift under gravity loads of 5mm.

Method of analysis:

The structure has been modelled & analyzed using the computer program Staad Pro and
thyssenkrupp factory calculation. The structure model is composed by linear members and
joints. At the bottom joints have been assumed as fixed supports and wall support is to be
only transmitting the horizontal forces (FX & FZ only).

Calculation results:

We include attached to this criteria a report including the input data, geometry,
mechanical properties of members, buckling factors, load cases, displacements,
reactions, stresses, demand/capacity factors, deflections. We also include some 2d
views showing joint labels and geometry as well.

Steel beam deflection calculation


Description of structure:

The geometry adapted for the model of the structure is based on the Architectural
Drawings

Materials:
All members used in the structure are specified as ASTM A36 (equivalent to the BS EN
10025, Grade S275 JR).

Lateral supports on R.C.: we understand we will attach the structure to the concrete
When ever we have floor slab. Therefore we will have 2 supports whenever the floor
slab exists on both side at any particular level in order to minimize the load transferred to
the main structure.

a) Installing car rail support
a.1) Connect the fixed support to the well wall:

The surface is required to be a horizontal


plane with the offset less than 2mm. The
fixed bracket may be adjusted with a
Fixed support gasket to guarantee it is on a horizontal
plane. Upon adjustment, the gasket shall
be welded with the supports via two
points to avoid the gasket from falling off
due to vibration.

a.2) Connect the rail support to the fixed support by weld, the weld is progressive fillet welding line, the
height of weld equals to the thickness of steel plate.

b) Installing the counterweight rail support
b.1) Connect the fixed support to the well wall:

The surface is required to be a horizontal

with a gasket to guarantee it is on a

via two points to avoid the gasket from

b.2) Connect the rail support to the fixed support:
Making fillet weld, weld is progressive and weld height equals to the thickness of steel plate. It should be
ensured that the horizontal degree of car guide rail bracket transom is less than 5mm, and the vertical
offset is less than 0.3mm. Define the position of CWT guide rail bracket by plumb line, and tighten it by
the bolts, full weld it after affirming the position again. See the picture 2-9.

2.7 Installing the guide rail
Instruction: the guide rail of the car top is 4m; the upper end face is plane; there are sunk coaks in the
lower end, as shown in figure 2-10; its installation location in the well is shown in figure 2-11; the legnth
of the guide rail on the car top cannot be changed during the field installation. Therefore, before installing
the car guide rail, calculate the length of the guide rail in the bottom of the well according to the well
height and the situation of the configured guide rail; the installation personnel shall process (saw) the
bottom guide rail according to the length calculated.

For installing the traction machine, the height of scaffold on the top floor can be adjusted on the actual
needs to provide enough space to install the traction machine, Shaft Top Beam of traction machine and
Governor Assy. The Traction machine, Shaft Top Beam of traction machine and Governor Assy. should
be suspended at the entrance of landing door on the top floor, so the scaffold should answer for the void
requirements of suspending. The safety requirements of scaffold can refer to the R000000241
<EC001-TS Preparation for Elevator Installation>.

If the depth of the well is overlarge (e.g. 100mm), it is allowed to take advantages of the gusset plate and
washer at the time of installing traction machine beam so that the gusset plate and washer can stretch
out of the traction machine beam and the integral component can stay on the embedded steel plate of
the load bearing wall solidly. See Figure 1-9.

Hoisting Hook

Hoisting hook load KN details are indicated in the GAD, Main contractor to provide Hook
with TKE given load and location as per GAD. The construction unit guarantees the intension
and function of hook, obey the local regulation.

The design of Hook to calculate the shear value capacity with considered factor of safety 1.6

Calculation for fixed mils steel:

Considered hot rolled mild steel bars - Fy = 250N/mm2

Hence shear capacity = 0.6 x 250 = 150N/mm2

Considered factory of safety 1.6 / Therefore F1 = 3 T (3 ton) x 1.6 = 5.0 T or 50000 N

Hence sectional surface area of steel required : 50000/150 = 333.33 mm2

Considering diameter 25mm

Sectional area of steel = H x (25 x 25) / 4 = 490.625 mm2 > 466.67mm2 - Ok 53

11. CONCLUSION

Conclusion:

1) As a result of our analysis the member are found safe as per AISC ASD design code.
2) Use HST M12/M16 Hilti bolt with embedded length -200mm for the divider beam
which connect to RC wall.
