INTRODUCTION TO IOT BASED HOME SECURITY SYSTEM

1.1. Introduction

IoT refers to an Internet of Things(IoT). IoT is a network of physical objects

or people called “things” that are embedded with software, electronics, network, and
sensors that allows these objects to collect and exchange data. The goal of IoT is to
extend to internet connectivity from standard devices (including everything from cell
phones, computers and other wearable embedded with sensors and actuators) [1]. IoT
is becoming more popular around the world and the consumers appreciate this
wireless lifestyle to achieve a standard living. The difference between IoT and the
Internet is the presence and absence of Human role. There are many kinds of security
system that use IoT technology. IoT based home security systems have attracted
people’s attention mostly because it can control from everyplace where the internet
connection is available. For example, a user can check his house while being on a
vacation outside from his country [2].
Home automation system is one of the major applications of IoT technology.
The system is used for controlling the home appliances like Lights, Fans, AC etc. It is
also used for detecting of the home condition such as temperature, humidity and
intrusion from strangers. The fundamental principle of home automation is controlling
each device using the internet and collect data from the sensors in a home network.
IoT based home security system brings out smart living condition and make
our life more safety and convenient. The principle objective of this project is to build
up a home security system using Arduino and ESP8266 WIFI module to guarantee
the client complete control of the remotely controllable electronic machines at home.

1.2. Background of the Study

When people think about home automation, most of them may imagine living
