A Narrative Report to the In Service Training for Senior High School Teachers Handling
Core Subjects

I. Narration:

Last April 7-9, 2017 I and my three co teachers were sent to the 2017 Summer INSET for the
SHS Teachers held at Lyceum Northwestern University, Dagupan City, Province of Pangasinan.
The seminar was sponsored by Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) a trustee of
Fund Assistance for Private Education (FAPE) in collaboration with DEPED and CHED. The
seminar workshops aims to contribute to the professional development of the Teachers in the
Private School as per mandated by the RA 10912 (CPD Law) that all Licensed Teachers are
mandated to earn 45 credit units by means of attending seminars, speakerships in symposiums,
graduate studies and the like before they will renew their licensed every three years and the
seminar workshops also aims to improve our pedagogical learning approach and helps us how to
make a well presented course syllabus and teachers guide in preparation to our journey as a
Senior High School Teachers. The seminar is only intended to those who teach or who will teach
in the future in Senior High School for the thirteen core subjects namely;

Humanities and Social Sciences Clusters:

 Oral Communication- English
 Komunikasyon sa Akademikong Filipino- Filipino
 Pagbasa’t Pagsulat sa Ibang Larangan- Filipino
 Philippine Contemporary Arts in the Region- Literature
 21ST Century Literature (Philippine and World Literature)- Literature
 Personality Development- Social Sciences
 Understanding Culture, Society and Politics- Social Sciences
 Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person- Social Sciences

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Cluster:

 General Mathematics- Math
 Statistics and Probability- Math
 Earth and Life Sciences- Science
 Disaster and Reduction Risk Management- Science
 Media and Information Literacy- ICT

Sport and Physical Education Cluster:

 PE and Health
In the above contexts the participants in the seminar workshop was distributed by the facilitators
based on the subjects that they taught and based on their specialization. During the seminar I
choose to go in the Philosophy area (Introduction to Philosophy of the Human Person) by my
free will and it is that easy for me to go with that subject though I am social studies major but I
am not a graduate of AB Philosophy because in our area Philosophy is one of the most hardest
subjects in the field of social sciences especially when it comes to Logic and Political
Philosophy.

In the first day of the seminars I met a lot of new friends in the profession and at the same time
we also met also our speakers/ trainers from Ateneo Davao University and Siliman University
whose Dr. Rex Rola and Dr. Federico Jose Mangilan both AB Philosophy Department Chairs in
their respective Universities. As the time flies so swiftly in second and last day we enjoy the
environment with my new friends and the speakers as we do the assigned task bestowed onto us
and the tears are coming in our eyes in the last day because we will miss each other and at the
same time overwhelmed and very proud because we attend in this prestigious seminar sponsored
by a respective guilds which is FAPE-PEAC in coordination with CHED and DEPED. To
summarize what we have done the whole three days seminar workshops here’s to wit the
following activities:

 Sharing insights regarding to the expectations in seminar (before the seminars)

 Making of Aligned Classroom Instructional Delivery Map (ACID Plan)
 Making own performance task standards
 Making of Teachers Guide with Demonstration Teaching
 Evaluating and critic of the works of other groups ( PTS, TM, ACID Plan)
 Self-evaluation for what we’ve learned

After making of the ACID Plan our group have also a group shots with the Trainers. See the
attach photos below:
In relation to the making of the teacher’s guide and demonstration teaching my group assigned
me to demo a sub topic in Philosophy which is Intersubjectivity and Genuine Communication
and I got a commendation award for my demonstration teaching. See the photo below:

As the seminar workshops ended we are all confident that all knowledge gain in the three days
seminars will be utilize in serving to our respective schools and we assure that the PEAC FAPE
guidelines in pedagogical approaches in teaching SHS core subjects as well as the proper making
of the TM, PTS and ACID plan will be strictly implemented and I hope that this is not the last
time that I can attend in this kind of seminars, I hope that after sometimes it will be repeated
again in other venue but the same speakers and co trainees.

I. Observations:

As a part of narrative report writing I also observe in the venue, foods, to my peers and to the
trainers. In the venue the place is very fine and of course the room is a well-ventilated because
we stay for the three days seminar workshops in a classroom but it was over crowded because it
occupies 70 Philo Teachers participants, for the food preparation it is OK also, for my peers or
new colleagues in the seminar we have different personalities but at the end of the day we all end
up with friendship and we also enjoying the company of each other while doing the assigned
task to us, and lastly for the trainers they have also various qualifications academically in nature
with different personalities also but they are all knowledgeable in their subject matters. Aside
from that I also observe that strictly compliance of the facilitators of our seminars with regards in
having our CPD units that we obliged to submit all the written works and have a lively
participations in the workshop before they will give to us our certificate of participations; they
also required us to evaluate them online before they should send the seminar certificates to our
email address. With this, we’ve learned to them the true essence of attending a seminar we are
not now after the certificates that they gave to us but we are for what knowledge we acquired
during the workshops.

II. Recommendations:

More seminar workshop please with corresponding CPD units for our professional development
as a Teacher that we can use in the classroom settings, for promotion or in other opportunities
will be offered to us in the future.
