ABSTRACT

TEFASCO which ventures on warehousing constructs their building on the

concept of pre-engineered steel. Their compound located in Barangay Ilang,

Tibungco has most of their warehouse building constructed using pre-engineered

steel. Presently, one of their warehouses which is under construction has an

original architectural design different from the existing building. The height of the

building is not uniform throughout its span.

This study sought to determine the ways and means to shorten the height

of center bay or Area II of a warehouse building of TEFASCO. Specifically, it

sought to determine the present situation of the building that needs rectifying,

methods of reducing the height of pre-engineered steel columns and rafters to

satisfy the required height of the building, and the problems of locating the cut-off

points without reducing the strength capacity of the members as well as the

guidelines of connecting the members. The evaluative method of research ways

used with the result of the structural analysis as the most important parameter

utilized to determine the cut-off points.

Findings of the study show that the cut-off points of the shoulder columns

is 1.22m from the base plate while the corbel of the rafter is proportionally cut by

a small portion at the bottom just enough that the jack beam of the next area is

not affected and fitted in the top of the center column and bolted to the provided

plate rather than placing it in the top. It also shows that conducting this procedure

will reduce the expenses and lessen the duration of the project rather than

requesting another structural member from Vietnam plant.
