Lahore, Pakistan

Subject: Complain for poor sanitation system in the area.

Dear Mr Imtiaz:

It is to bring in to your notice that the sanitation system in our area is too bad. I would like to
draw your attentions towards the bad and poor condition of cleanliness and drain system of our
town.

The streets are not swept regularly. The municipal cleaning staff has been disappeared since  last
two months. The garbage can be seen everywhere in our society. Bad smell is arising from these
garbage which cannot be bored by residents.

This bad system is generating many fatal diseases. Flies are found immensely and it is helping to
the growth of mosquitoes.  Malaria has just broken out and many persons have become victims
of  malaria fever. This worse atmosphere may give birth to many dangerous diseases like
dengue and cholera. If this  condition will  remain continue for few weeks, we can lose many
precious bodies due to careless behavior of relevant authorities.

I want you to look into this matter on a serious note. Some immediate steps must be taken to stop
this serious issue so that people can live comfortably.

I am looking forward your positive response regarding this matter.

Regards

Amna Khan
Q 2: Paraphrase the given passage. (12)

Lahore — a city of slums and shanties by Salman Ali and Abdullah Kahn OCTOBER 27,
2017.

According to the recent census, the city’s population is around 11 million. An overwhelming
majority of these are likely to be found in slum settlements, where they don’t have proper food,
health, sanitation, living and education facilities and this happens to be the biggest dilemma for
our society as well as alarming and thought provoking for our elected representatives. Slums are
not just found in Pakistan. Large parts of India, Indonesia, Kenya, and Hong Kong etc are also
covered by such localities. What does a slum mean? Slums are human settlements, mostly in
urban peripheries, where the poor, the labouring class and marginalised communities live. In
Urdu, these slum areas are called “Kachchi Abaadis”. Just to highlight for my readers that
Orangi Town in Karachi is currently the largest slum area in Asia.

Just highlighting Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), as Pakistan is the signatory,

particularly Goal 11, which states that “making cities and human settlements, inclusive safe,
resilient and sustainable”. The first specific target for this global goal is, “By 2030, ensure access
for all to adequate safe and affordable housing and basic service and upgrade slums.” As a
citizen of Pakistan, we personally hope that these commitments that Pakistan has signed will
break the shackles and the government will deliver.

Lahore, which is labeled by the authorities as the Paris of Pakistan, has massive infrastructure
projects but there is an ugly side of this massive development i.e. increasing slums in these same
neighbor hoods.

PARAPHIRASING

“According to recent report, population of Lahore is about eleven million. Population is great in
amount. This is disturbing and frightening situation as they don't have adequate resources to
fulfill their needs. There is a lack of food, health facilities and education. There are a lot of slums
located in Pakistan. Slum means overcrowded urban street or district inhabited by very poor
people. It is located in other countries too. India, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Kenya also have
slums in these countries. The largest hovel of Asia is orangi town of Karachi.
According to the Goal 11 which was “making cities and human settlements” The basic target of
this goal was to provide these people affordable houses and to increase the living standards of the
people living in slums. We hope that government will deliver them what they need.

Lahore called a Paris of Pakistan by the previous government. And they started huge
infrastructure projects in Lahore and neglect those people and slums. As a result, slums are
increasing in the city.”

Q 3: Write a news article of about 250-300 words on, “The decline of Covid-19 cases in
Pakistan”. (12)

The Decline of Covid-19 Cases In Pakistan

According to research We can say that Covid-19 cases have been declining in Pakistan since the
start of July 2020. As far as the reason behind this decrease in cases is concerned, it could mainly
be due to the presence of a non-specific immunity that is unique to Pakistanis due to multiple
exposure of various vaccines, highly humid weather and low transmission season of respiratory
illnesses in the peak summer,” Experts said this phenomenon was also being observed in
regional countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Iran, except India where positive cases and the
deaths were continuously on the rise.

Dr. Safdar said that a highly humid weather in the current monsoon season is also playing an
important role in slowing down the spread of the coronavirus in Pakistan, saying that due to
humidity, air becomes heavy and droplets containing the virus don’t go far when a carrier
speaks, coughs or sneezes.

“And lastly, it is low transmission season for respiratory viruses and its transmission in the
sunlight is very slow. It is still spreading but mostly in shaded places,” Dr Safdar said.
The prime minister’s focal person on COVID-19 and leading infectious diseases’ specialist, Dr
Faisal Sultan, was of the opinion that the slowing down of COVID-19 cases due to the presence
of non-specific immunity among the Pakistani people “is technically a possibility”, but no
evidence for this idea was relevant in this case, “at least so far”

But Several Experts are not sure yet about the reason behind the decrease in covid-19 Cases.
They are saying that there is no scientific evidence of the role of immunity and humidity weather
in the decline of Covid-19 Cases.

But the future is uncertain, as besides virus drop in new population settings, the upcoming Eid is
a major risk. Because people might not follow SOPs on this coming Eid and there is a risk of
increase in Covid-19 cases after Eid.

Q 4: Write an executive summary for a report conducted on, “The impact of

online classes on the students”.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Due to Covid-19 Higher education's currently moved to online learning may be creating a
difficulties for students and faculty across the country but there was not other option as HEC
announced that Exams are mandatory. Based on the present situation, where individuals come to
stand on online learning will depend on where they sit currently. That is, there will be both
positive and negative impacts of online learning in higher education.

University faculty moved courses online without much support, online learning is being done
poorly in many Universaties. It's consequently getting a bad reputation at many campuses.

Students asking for refunds. Some students have even gone as far as filing class action lawsuits
seeking money back.

Some students are facing Internet issues as we all know that quality of internet in Pakistan is not
soo good. Specially Students live in KPK side and living in those areas where internet facilities
are not available.

On the other hand, If the closure of physical campuses continues into the fall, some residential
students and their parents will start asking why they should pay large tuition bills for education
they are not receiving. And there would be loss of semester for students.

We live in a time where the world is turning to technology. Cell phones are in nearly every
pocket, cars are running on electricity, and TVs are being considered “smart”. The step in
receiving an education has also jumped onto the technology train. With thousands of options to
gain an education online, it’s only a matter of time until online education becomes the only way
to gain an education. But is online education the right answer? Arguments can be made for both
sides, but what it ultimately comes down to, is an individual’s preference in receiving their
education.

There are pros and cons for all the different forms of learning, which means that there is not one
correct way of learning. But in a world where nearly everything is going down the technology
path, online learning may be, for the first time, the best way.
