CHAPTER – A Pair of linear equations in two variables
Frame a pair of linear equations in two variables for the following questions :
Q1. 2 tables and 3 chairs together cost Rs.2000 where as 3
tables and 2 chairs together cost Rs.2500.

Q2. In a two digit number, the sum of the digits is 9. If the


digits are reversed, the number is increased by 9.

Q3.Students of a class are made to stand in rows. If 4


students are extra in a row , there would be two rows less.
if 4 students are less in a row ,there would be four more
rows.

Q4. The area of a rectangle gets reduced by 80 sq. units if


its length is reduced by5 units and the breadth is increased
by 2 units. If we increase the length by 10 units and
decrease the breadth by 5 units, the area is increased by 50
sq. units.
Q5. A train covered a certain distance at a uniform speed. If
the train would have been 6km/hr. faster ,if would have
taken 4 hours less than the scheduled time and if the train
were slower by 6km/hr. it would have taken 6 hours more
than the scheduled time.

Q6. 8 men and 12 boys can finish a piece of working 10


days while 6 men and 8 boys can finish it in
14 days.

Q7. The age of father is equal to the sum of the ages of his 5
children. After 15 years sum of the ages of the children will
be twice the age of the father.

Q8. In a parallelogram, one angle is 4/5th of the adjacent


angle.
Q9. A boat goes 24km upstream and 28km downstream in
6hrs. It goes 30km upstream and 21km downstream in 6 and
half hrs.

Q10. I am three times as old as my son. Five years later , I


shall be two and a half times as old as my son.
