Sri Sudarsana Homam and Rains

! Jaya Jaya Sri Sudarsana Jaya Jaya Sri Sudarsana Jaya Jaya Sri Sudarsana!

(1) “Sudarsana Varsham”

The story starts from 1994, when everyone in the town of Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu was waiting
eagerly for the “Annual Seasonal Guest” who was expected to arrive in July, did not arrive.

Now they waited for the entire month of August and “the guest” did not arrive. It was now the middle of
August, the water bodies were drying up, crops were showing signs of withering and it was real hot
breeze that was blowing across the terrain. But there was no sign at all of rains showering the land
with nourishment.

In the month of September, everyone in the region said “The rains will not come” and lost all their
hopes, so to say. They worried about what would be their fate for the rest of the year. The weather
and climate was aggravating their sense of despair.

The citizens of the town were feeling that they cannot do much about this turn of events, this being
natural phenomenon. They finally met and decided to organize special worship to invoke the
Blessings of the Almighty.

Prominent citizens of the town reached the house on East Street (also known as Hariharantha Kovil
Street), which wore a simple look with Mangalore tile roofing. As the house itself was looking more
like a “shrine’, there were no chairs to sit and no one to do them the usual honors.

The house belonged to one Shri. Lakshmi Narasimhachariar (also known as Sudarsana Chakra
Swami / Dharmapuri Swami), who hails from Thiruvali Thirunagari (a temple town near Sirgazhi) and
worked with LIC of India. He wore the dhoti in the traditional manner that is as Panchakaccham. He
also had the 12 Urdwa Pundrams on his body which is essential for an orthodox Sri Vaishnava. His
humble nature and simple dress were indicative of his lifestyle and philosophy.

As per tradition, Lord Sudharsana Himself chose and identified Shri Lakshmi Narasimhachariar as His
Upasaka and came to reside in his humble abode. Adorning the house, the Lord has been performing
several miracles in the lives of devotees who were seeking His intervention. The town was witness to
several miracles in the form of jobs, marriages and other seemingly difficult events which materialized
in the lives of the suffering devotees. The Lord is helping all the devotees in times of distress and
sufferings.

In the Vishnu temples all over India, Lord Sudharsana normally would be found alongside Sri
Mahavishnu (as also adorning his right hand) and Mahalakshmi. However, in the Swami’s residence,
He has preferred a separate place for Himself. Scholars of Sri Vaishnava studies (for example,
Professor Govindan and Srirangam Lakshminarasimhachariar) have proclaimed and agreed that the
Sacred Murthi adorning this abode is really “Lord of direct action”.

The popular talk was that if Sudharsana Yagna is performed as per the procedure prescribed in the
Sastras, and “Poornahuti” offered as a mark of conclusion of the Yagna, then the Lord would be
pleased and Shower His Blessings by way of Rains

The elders of Dharmapuri approached this humble Swam, because they realized that only he could
perform this Sudarsana Yagna strictly as per the Sastras.

“Swami, the seasonal rains have failed. Two months have passed without rains. The whole district is
reeling under drought like conditions”

The Swami heard them calmly, thought deeply for sometime and said “Let us perform a Sudarsana
Homam and pray to the Ever Benevolent Shri Sudarsana”.

Immediately a the group under the leadership of the forthright police officer in the cadre of Tamil Nadu
Police, Shri K G Balakrishna ably assisted by M/s I. Gopalan, G Nagarajan and CS Gupta took over
the task of arranging a Yagna for invoking Lord Varuna, the God of rains

The group of citizens the agreed that the only way to resolve this worsening distress was to perform
Sudharsana Maha Yagna as per Vedic prescriptions and also requested that Laksharchana (one lakh
invocations of Lord Sudarsana), should also be performed.

This was planned to start from 26th September and complete on 2nd October at Vasavi Function Hall.

As soon as the Homam commenced, the skies turned dark with thick clouds. And heavy rains started
pouring. The first and second day Pujas were performed in pouring rain. The heavy rains did not
spare the Yaga Shaala also !!

And Swami had to pray for the rains to stop. And as soon as the Yagna was completed, heavy rains
followed and it was happiness all over.

The citizens were overwhelmed with great joy and happiness and thanked the Swami immensely for
his strict adherence to the rules prescribed in the Sastras, and for successfully invoking the Blessings
of Lord Sudarsana.

It is our routine experience in our daily life that Man proposes; God disposes.

But for His Benign Grace and Blessings, the secret longings and yearnings of our injured hearts will
remain unheard and unanswered forever.

(2) Sudarsana Homa - Shri Lakshmi Narasimhachariar

How to seek His Blessings – through love, through prayers, through knowledge, through rigorous
discipline? Ways are many; still we grope in darkness searching for some light; some ‘angel in
disguise’ to guide and help us in promising God’s favour.

Here is one such holy man living amidst us in rather humble surroundings of Chennai Kumaran
Colony in the neighborhood of Vadapalani near SRM University campus.

A staunch devotee of Lord Sudarsana, who is single aim in life is to help the helpless through his
pious and special prayers and pujas performed strictly as prescribed in the Mantra Sastras and
according to the need of the concerned.

Hailing from a humble orthodox Vaishnavaite family of great pundits in Thiruvali – Thirunagari, which
is renowned as the birthplace of the king Thirumangai Alwar, Sri Lakshmi Narasimhachariar is also
known as Dharmapuri Swamigal.

He was blessed with the rare and good fortune to receive the sacred free meal prasadam given at the

Thayar Sannidhi (shrine of the Divine Mother Sri Mahalakshmi) of Sirkazhi temple.

Listening to the Divya Prabhandams, Devotional Songs and Mantras Sri Swami developed keen
interest and began to focus his mind on the devotional line even when he was quite young. He
subsequently worked at LIC Dharmapuri and retired from service on super annotation.

Even when he was in service in one of most reputed and modern Public Sector Organization, he was
not attracted or tempted by promotions and positions of power or authority. He was contented with his
official position in LIC, without seeking favours from any of his bosses.

He had complete conviction that the Lord would fulfill whatever he needs for carrying on as a
householder. So, he stayed extremely focused on continuing his daily Upasana of Lord Sudarsana,
for the benefit of all without any selfish motives of commercial gains.

He installed the deity of Lord Sudarsana in his house and worshipped it daily as per his father’s
advice. His life took an extraordinary turn to the surprise of himself and to others that visited his
house.

Whoever visited his humble house and had Darshan of Lord Sudarsana and received Prasadam
experienced many miracles in their lives – both personal and official.

Many people were cured and relieved of their diseases. Many others reported that even their age old
problems were resolved quickly without any hassles after receiving the Grace of Lord Sudarsana from
his house.

Many a couple were reunited; many unmarried girls or boys found themselves blessed with marriage
getting settled quickly.

Many have been cured of chronic illness. Several others were restored to peace and prosperity, love
and affection, name and fame and events of His Grace are endless – many have experienced and
shared with others.

So, it is quite common to see many people visiting his house especially on Amavaya (New Moon)
days, every month, as he performs special Japam lasting for a few hours, to be blessed with the
Power of Lord Sudarsana.

The Swami also performs Sudarsana Homa (Sudarsana Yagna) praying for welfare of the common
people. During such Homas the entire place is blessed with bountiful rains – both at the beginning of
the Yagna as well as at the time of completion -- called Purnaahuti

Sri Lakhsmi Narasimhacharair’s godly gift to bring people closer to God became widely known.

In the past four decades he has been serving people with his sagely and practical advice, his special
Pujas, his intercession with the divine Lord Sudarsana to resolve problems of people who visit him. If
the Lord commands him to perform Homa m to resolve any particular problem, he informs the person
accordingly, to enable the person to make the necessary arrangements at the devotee’s residence /
office.

It is noteworthy that the Swami has performed more than 8600 such Homam and Yagnas in a period
spanning over 40 years or 4 decades, for the benefit of thousands of people , from various walks of
life.

In all these Homams, devotees can actually experience Lord Sudarsana blessings in the form of

identification of obstacles to the devotees, discussion about solutions and the Lord’s blessings and
protection being granted to the family.

According to the Swami, Sudarsana Homas have to be performed only by those persons who can
observe strict discipline in their personal life and who can do long period of continuous Japa with
single-minded devotion on a daily basis. The Swami considers himself blessed that the Lord
Sudarsana has allowed him to observe this rigorous discipline from the past 60 years, without any
break!!!

As the Swami has accumulated thousands of invocations over the years, he partakes the effect of his
oblations in the Homam.

For performing this Yagna, as per procedure, the process called Purascharanam, has to be followed
without any deviation, with deep devotion and focus.

During the Homa, 10,008 oblations should be offered in the fire. This is followed by offering 1,008
Ksheeraarghyas (Offering of fresh Cow Milk in Sacred Homa Fire) ) followed by bhojanam (feeding)
for 108 devotees.

The Swami assures and asserts, from his so many years of experience, that when Sudarsana Homa
is performed by persons with such Devotion, Knowledge of the Sastras, and Mantra Japa Balam, then
Lord Sriman Narayana in the form of Lord Sudarsana becomes immensely Pleased and Showers His
Bountiful Grace on the devotees.

The Homa becomes effective in fulfilling the genuine prayers and legitimate desires of the devotees.

Sri Lakshmi Narasimhachariar continues to serve the people who come to his residence at Kumaran
Colony seeking remedies to their situations by his intercession with the Lord Sudarsana.

Even now, at his ripe old age of 76 plus, he is very keen to serve the people so that many more can
enjoy the Blessings of Lord Sudarsana and lead a successful life freed from unexpected problems
and obstacles.
