WARNING: failure to follow directions could result in bodily harm or loss of life.
LASER WARNING: how to avoid personal injury. All personnel involved in equipment
installation, operation, and maintenance must be aware that laser radiation is invisible.
Therefore, although protective devices generally prevent direct exposure to the beam,
personnel must strictly observe the applicable safety precautions and, in particular, must
avoid staring into optical connectors, either directly or using optical instruments.
ESD: information on how to avoid discharge of static electricity and subsequent damage to
the unit.
TIP: helpful information and handy hints that can make your task easier.

1 About This Manual
The All-Native approach offers the most cost-efficient traffic handling in a mixed TDM and packet
environment while supporting all the necessary PTN attributes. Using native handling allows a gradual and
controlled shift from TDM-based infrastructure to packet-based infrastructure, while also minimizing risk by
eliminating complex and costly encapsulation schemes to carry Ethernet over TDM or TDM over Ethernet.

2 Overview
The NPT product line supports a full set of Carrier Ethernet services and features including QoS, protection,
OAM, and synchronization to assure undisrupted service delivery. Integrated WDM, OTN, and ROADM
allow seamless integration with next generation optical networks.
By supporting the most advanced carrier class Ethernet-based services (L1, L2, MPLS) and with MEF
CE2.0-based certification, the NPT is well positioned to deliver cellular backhaul transition/migration plans
from TDM to Ethernet as well as for new build outs of LTE and 4G networks, support for full triple play
services for residential NGN applications, and utility company transitions to packet, CoC, and business
applications. The NPT family of products is managed by the LightSoft® NMS.
The NPT's value propositions include:
Efficiency through ultimate flexibility
Choice of packet and TDM handling options - native packet, native TDM, TDM over packet, and
packet over TDM
Unique build-as-you-grow architecture
Converged packet, optics, and TDM
Simplicity through MPLS-TP
