Travelling by train

For long distance travelling, trains are probably the ost convenient way for this
majority of people. Nowadays passengers have at their disposal different kinds of
trains: passenger, fast, express, local, long distance, through trains with carriages to
any taste and financial position. Some people prefer carriages with numbered reserved
seats, other prefer sleeping-cars with different facilities as air-conditioners and
privacy.
If you are going to travel by train, your first task is to get a ticket at a booking-
office. If you know the date of your return it’s better to book a return ticket in
advance. Besides, pensioners and students can take tickets with reduced fare.
On the day of your departure you make the last necessary preperetions, take your
suitcase of duffle-bag and get to the railway station. It’s up to you to decide whether
you prefer to reach the station with plenty of time to catch the train or to arrive at the
last minute and nearly miss it. Usually traiins run to schedule and leave on the dot
being at the station 15-40 minutes. This time is enough for finding your carriage,
showing the ticket to the guard, for storing away your luggage and even getting on
your berth.
Modern terminals are operated with modern electronic equipment and served by
numerous personnel. Passengers have at their service waiting halls, an inquiry office,
a left-luggage office, automatic luggage lockers, a room for mother and child, a
medical aid station, a restaurant, bars, kiosks, a post office. You can find here phone
cards, soda, beer, cakes, toilet paper, soap and so on. You will also find most of the
food on the train and the price is not much different.
In the car the conductor collects your ticket, brings in your bedding and suggests
tea or coffe. You can go to a dining car. Besides, there is a trolley service, where they
sell snacks. When the excitement of the day is over you go to sleep. Next morning
half an hour before the journey ends, the attendant wakes you up and hands back your
ticket.
Travelling by train has many advantages. First of all these is safer than other
vehicle. Next, train is more comfortable. After that you don't need car park, park fee
and petro. Also you can do lots of things during in train. For example, you can have a
meal, snack or just sit and read.
Speaking about disadvantages , I can say that traveling by train means that you will
have to share your journey with strangers, which might not be so nice when the
passenger next to you is a crying child or someone who speaks loudly on their
telephone while you are trying to sleep. Compared to cars that provide the maximum
flexibility, railways are not as flexible. They often have fixed schedule.
But never the less traveling by train is one of the most popular way to get from one
place to another.
