1 INTERNAL CAB COMPONENTS
65/75/85CF series Safety instructions

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General
The cab is equipped with a hydraulic tilting
mechanism. The pump is located on the
co-driver’s side at the rear of the cab. The cab
locks are opened hydraulically during pumping.
If the vehicle has been involved in a collision,
check the cab struts, cab hinges and the
lifting-cylinder foot bracket along the chassis
member for cracks before tilting.
Even after taking these steps, you should
2
proceed with the greatest possible caution after
a collision. If possible, suspend the cab from a
hoist and place a stand in front of the cab. Be
sure to check the inside of the lifting cylinder
thoroughly as well, and to replace it if
necessary.
When working on a tilted cab (for
example when welding,
spray-painting or applying bitumen
coatings), be sure to cover the
piston rod of the lifting cylinder.
Welding spatter and paint which
land on the piston rod will
inevitably cause damage to the oil
seal.

Inspection after a collision

After an accident, a lifting cylinder must always
be inspected for damage to and/or defects on
the cylinder sleeve suspension points, the cab
and chassis attachment points, and the internal
components of the lifting cylinder.

 9906 1-1
INTERNAL CAB COMPONENTS 1
Safety instructions 65/75/85CF series

After a accident, the end stop in the

lifting cylinder may be damaged, so
that the cab could shoot past its
end stop. Be sure to protect the cab
against such an occurrence (for
example by attaching it to a hoist)
and make sure that there is no one
in front of the cab while it is being
tilted.

2 TILTING THE CAB

General
You can stop the cab tilting forward
at any time by rotating the cock to
the reverse tilting position.

If the vehicle has been involved in a

collision, the cab must under no
circumstances be tilted without due
precautions. The internal
mechanism of the lifting cylinder
may have been damaged to such an
extent that the cylinder is no longer
locked by the internal stop collar.
There is a risk that the cab will
continue to tilt unchecked. Have a
DAF dealer check this.

2. INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT

2.1 INSPECTION, MANUAL THROTTLE ADJUSTMENT

- Operate the manual throttle and check the

engine speed.
- Adjustment: 14
Loosen the nuts (13 and 14). 13
Pull out or twist the manual throttle cable
until the engine is running at the correct
engine speed. 2
Then retighten the adjusting nut (13) until
the stop is felt.
Secure the adjusting nut with the
locknut (14).

2.2 INSPECTION, ACCELERATOR PEDAL ADJUSTMENT

Note:
On inspection and adjustment of the throttle
control, keep to the order stated below:
- accelerator pedal adjustment
- speed limiting mechanism adjustment.
Accelerator pedal adjustment
1. Depress the accelerator pedal until it is
2 parallel with the floor of the cab.
2. Tighten the full throttle stop bolt (B) (by
hand) to the bottom of the pedal.
3. Tighten the locknut.
4. Turn the idling stop bolt (A) (if fitted), which
is situated under the heel end of the
accelerator pedal, so that a 29 mm travel B
(C) is created between the centre of the E
attachment point of the outer cable under A
the cab (D) and the point of application of
the ball joint on the pedal lever (E).
Note: C
If there is no idling stop bolt (A) fitted, set the
29 mm travel using the full throttle stop bolt (B)
under the accelerator pedal. If there is no full D
throttle stop bolt, then fit one. i400324

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Welding
Welding work must never be carried out on the
chassis. Before starting welding work on any
other components, the negative lead must first
be disconnected from the battery. Furthermore,
all electrical connections between cab and
chassis must be interrupted. Consult the
“Bodybuilder’s Guidelines”.
Attach the earth clamp of the welding set as
close as possible to the area on the vehicle
where the welding is to be done and ensure
that it makes good contact with the part being
welded. Do not attach the earth terminal to
springs or axles. Make sure that the welding
3
spatter does not fall on pneumatic pipes,
springs, etc.
Batteries
- Always disconnect the battery earth lead
when working on the electrical system
or when connectors have to be
unplugged.
- Never place tools on a battery. If you do,
this could result in a short circuit and
even cause the battery to explode.
Air conditioning
The air conditioning system may only be opened
and filled by a specialist. Many countries require
official certification to carry out such activities.

TILTING THE CAB

General
You can stop the cab tilting forward at any
time by rotating the cock to the reverse
tilting position.
If the vehicle has been involved in a
collision, the cab must under no
circumstances be tilted without due
precautions. The internal mechanism of the
lifting cylinder may have been damaged to
such an extent that the cylinder is no longer
locked by the internal stop collar.

3 There is a risk that the cab will continue to

tilt unchecked.
Have a DAF dealer check this.

2. GENERAL
2.1 DESCRIPTION OF HEATER SYSTEM, HEATER OPERATION

The heater is installed in the centre console as a

complete unit.
The unit contains all control valves, control
handles and switches needed for ventilation and
heating.
The only version used for the F230 cab is the
standard heating/ventilation system.

K1 00 630

The control panel has three rotary knobs.

Knob 1
Five-position switch to control fan speed. 1 2 3

Knob 2
Air distribution in the cab. 1
0 = off position
A = footwell
B = front windscreen and footwell A B

General 65/75/85CF series

Air distribution
After passing through an air filter, outside air
1
C
enters the heater housing through opening A
behind the grille. The first air distribution takes
place in the space (C) between the fan and the D
radiator. E
The in-coming air is then passed to the heater B
fan according to the direction indicated by the
arrow (B). However, a part of the incoming air
can also enter the cab directly through the
central vents (arrow D). F
The volume of the air is regulated with the
knurled wheels under the central air vents.
2
A
The volume of air flowing in the direction
3 indicated by arrow B therefore depends on the
volume of air extracted in direction D. The air
K1 00 632

(B) being supplied will now be heated by the

heater radiator, depending on the position of the
heater valve.
The second distribution of air takes place behind
the heater radiator. From here, the air is
distributed to air passages E and F.
Valves 1 and 2 in the heater body are used to
open and close air passages E and F.
Via the central air duct, air passage E is
connected with the front windscreen air vents,
side windows and vents.
Air passage F is connected with the lower air
vents via air ducts.
Air also passes through an air duct to the centre
console. The amount of air depends on the
position of rotary knob 2.
Coolant circuit
The warm coolant flows, via the supply line (1) 3
and the opened heater valve (2), to the heater
radiator (3).
The cab is heated by the heater radiator, which 2
is fitted in the airstream.
The cooled coolant flows from the heater

1 EXTERNAL CAB COMPONENTS
65/75/85CF series Safety instructions

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General
The cab is equipped with a hydraulic tilting
mechanism. The pump is located on the
co-driver’s side at the rear of the cab. The cab
locks are opened hydraulically during pumping.
If the vehicle has been involved in a collision,
check the cab rest, cab hinges and the
lifting-cylinder foot bracket along the chassis
member for cracks before tilting.
Even after taking these steps, you should
proceed with the greatest possible caution after
a collision. If possible, suspend the cab from a
hoist and place a stand in front of the cab.
Ensure that the inside of the lifting cylinder is
also thoroughly checked and replace it if
necessary.
When working on a tilted cab (for
4
example when welding,
spray-painting or applying bitumen
coatings), be sure to cover the
piston rod of the lifting cylinder.
Welding spatter and paint which
land on the piston rod will
inevitably cause damage to the oil
seal.

Inspection after a collision

After an accident, a lifting cylinder must always
be inspected for damage to and/or defects on
the cylinder sleeve suspension points, the cab
and chassis attachment points, and the internal
components of the lifting cylinder.

 9906 1-1
EXTERNAL CAB COMPONENTS 1
Safety instructions 65/75/85CF series

After a accident, the end stop in the

lifting cylinder may be damaged, so
that the cab could shoot past its
end stop.
Be sure to protect the cab against
such an occurrence (for example by
attaching it to a hoist) and make
sure that there is no one in front of
the cab while it is being tilted.

Tilt the cab fully if work must be carried out

underneath the cab.
After a fire it is possible that hazardous residues
may remain from the plastics used in some oil
seals and sealing rings. Wear protective,
acid-resistant clothing and PVC gloves when
removing such fire residues. Submerge such fire
residues in, or sprinkle them amply with, a
4 calcium hydroxide solution (slaked lime and
water). Thoroughly clean the protective clothing
after use. Treat the gloves as chemical waste.

TILTING THE CAB

General
- You can stop the cab tilting forward at
any time by rotating the cock to the
reverse tilting position.
- If the vehicle has been involved in a
collision, the cab must under no
circumstances be tilted without due
precautions. The internal mechanism of
the lifting cylinder may have been
damaged to such an extent that the
cylinder is no longer locked by the
internal stop collar.
- There is a risk that the cab will continue
to tilt unchecked. Have a DAF dealer
check this.

2.4 ADJUSTMENT, HEADLAMPS

Note:
In view of the accuracy required, the use of the
appropriate optical or electronic adjustment tools
is recommended. Always adhere to the
manufacturer’s instructions and advice.
If the correct equipment is not available, the
setting of the headlights (dipped beam) can be
checked as follows:
- The dipped beam should have a downward
slant of 1%, which means that when it is
projected on a board or wall at a distance of
10 metres, the light-dark division should be
10 cm below the centre height of the
headlamp.

4 Adjustment, headlamps
1. Before the headlamp adjustment (dipped
beam) is checked, first ensure that:
- the vehicle is unladen and the tyres are
inflated to the specified pressure.
- the vehicle is standing on a flat and
level surface.
- when checking/adjusting the
headlamps, make sure that the rotary
switch for the headlamp height setting
(if fitted) is in the middle position.

65/75/85CF series Safety instructions

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General
The cab is equipped with an hydraulic tilting
mechanism. The pump is located on the
co-driver’s side at the rear of the cab. The cab
locks are opened hydraulically during pumping.
If the vehicle has been involved in a collision,
check the cab rest, cab hinges and the
lifting-cylinder foot bracket along the chassis
member for cracks before tilting.
Even after taking these steps, you should
proceed with the greatest possible caution after
a collision. If possible, suspend the cab from a
hoist and place a stand in front of the cab. Be
sure to check the inside of the lifting cylinder
thoroughly as well, and to replace it if
necessary.
When working on a tilted cab (for
example when welding,
spray-painting or applying bitumen
coatings), be sure to cover the
piston rod of the lifting cylinder.
5
Welding spatter and paint which
land on the piston rod will
inevitably cause damage to the oil
seal.

Inspection after a collision

After an accident, a lifting cylinder must always
be inspected for damage to and/or defects on
the cylinder sleeve suspension points, the cab
and chassis attachment points, and the internal
components of the lifting cylinder.
After a accident, the end stop in the
lifting cylinder may be damaged, so
that the cab could shoot past its
end stop.
Be sure to protect the cab against
such an occurrence (for example by
attaching it to a hoist) and make
sure that there is no one in front of
the cab while it is being tilted.

TILTING THE CAB

General
- You can stop the cab tilting forward at
any time by turning the cock to the
reverse tilting position.
- If the vehicle has been involved in a
collision, the cab must under no
circumstances be tilted without due
precautions. The internal mechanism of
the lifting cylinder may have been
damaged to such an extent that the
cylinder is no longer locked by the
internal stop collar.
- There is a risk that the cab will continue
to tilt unchecked. Have a DAF dealer
check this.

65/75/85CF series Safety instructions

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General
The cab is equipped with a hydraulic tilting
mechanism. The pump is located on co-driver’s
side at the rear of the cab. The cab locks are
opened hydraulically during pumping.
Before tilting the cab, make sure that the doors
are closed, that there are no loose items in the
cab and that the gear lever is in neutral. Tilt the
cab fully if work is carried out underneath the
cab.
You can stop the cab tilting forward
at any time by turning the cock to
the reverse tilting position.

When working on a tilted cab (for

example when welding,
spray-painting or applying bitumen
coatings), be sure to cover the
piston rod of the lifting cylinder.
Welding spatter and paint on the
piston rod will inevitably cause
damage to the oil seal.

Inspection after a collision

Before tilting the cab after a collision, check the
6
cab rests, the cab hinges and the attachment of
the lifting cylinder to the chassis member and
cab for cracks.
If the vehicle has been involved in a
collision, the cab must under no
circumstances be tilted without due
precautions. The end stop in the
lifting cylinder may be damaged,
which might cause the cab to shoot
past its end stop.

If possible, suspend the cab in slings and put a

stand in front of the cab. Make sure that there is
no one in front of the cab while it is being tilted.

Replacing the lifting cylinder

After a collision, always check the lifting
cylinder for internal damage.
Replace the lifting cylinder if it is damaged or if
you are in doubt as to its condition.
Always replace the cylinder if one of the
following points has occurred during a collision:
A. the cab has been pulled out of the cab
locks,
B. the cab locks have been deformed or
damaged,
C. the rear cab suspension has been
deformed or damaged.

mechanism. The pump is on co-driver side
behind the stepwell.
The cab locks are automatically opened
hydraulically when the pump is being operated.
If the vehicle has been involved in a collision,
check the following points before tilting the cab.
- cab rests,
- cab hinges,
- attachment of the lifting cylinder,
- hydraulic system for leakage.
After this check, continue to proceed with
utmost care.
If possible, suspend the cab in slings and put a
stand in front of the cab.
After a collision, always check the lifting cylinder
for internal damage.
Tilting the cab:
-

-
Make sure there are no people immediately
in front of the cab.
Make sure there is sufficient clearance
6
around the cab.
- Make sure there are no loose objects inside
the cab.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Move the gear lever to the right position
and turn off the engine.
- Close the doors.
- Turn the cab-tilting pump cock clockwise as
far as possible.
- Position the rod in the pump and operate
the pump.
You can stop the cab tilting forward at any
time by turning the cock anticlockwise.

Turn the two-way valve (2) on the pump (1)

clockwise (position A).
While pumping, pressure will build up in both
pipes leading to the lifting cylinder (3).
Any overpressure in the system is returned to
the reservoir via the safety valve (7).
At each pump stroke, the non-return valve (5)
opens.
Oil will now flow underneath the piston of the
lifting cylinder (3).
The pressure in the pipes drops at the end of
each pump stroke. As a result, the non-return
valve (5) closes.
In spite of the fact that the pressure above and
below the cylinder piston is the same, the
cylinder is pumped outwards, so that the cab is
tilted.
This is due to the fact that the same pressure is
acting on two surfaces that are different in area.
The resulting force is the pressure in the system
which is applied to the surface of the plunger
cross section.
Once it has passed top dead centre, the cab will
fall into the full tilt position on its own.
Pumping is not necessary during this.

Turn the two-way valve (2) on the pump (1)

anticlockwise (position B).
While pumping, the pressure which has built up
in the pump will be passed on to the pressure
side of the cylinder (3) and will simultaneously
activate the non-return valve (5) in the
cylinder (3).
Each stroke of the pump (1) opens the
non-return valve (5). When the non-return valve
(5) in the cylinder opens, oil can flow back into
the pump reservoir from the cylinder return side.
The cab will move only when the pump is being
operated.
The pressure in the pump and the pipes drops
at the end of each pump stroke. The non-return
valve (5) will now close.
The cab will fall downwards on its own a few
centimetres before it is completely secured in
the locks.
This is due to the fact that the piston of the
cylinder is in a position which allows a leak-off
connection (4) between the areas above and
below the cylinder piston.
The warning lamp on the CWS-panel will go out
as soon as the cab locks are engaged.

3.2 INSPECTING AND ADJUSTING THE PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE OF THE

CAB TILTING PUMP

For inspection and adjustment of

the pressure limiting valve always
use a pressure gauge. If the
pressure is set too high, the tilting
mechanism may be damaged,
which can lead to very dangerous
situations.

Inspecting the pressure limiting valve of the A

cab tilting pump
1. Remove the pipes from the pump and plug
the connections (B and D) on the pump with
a dummy nipple.
2. Connect a pressure gauge with a range of
no less than 600 bar to connection (C). D
3. Bleed the pressure gauge hose. C

5. DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY

5.1 DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY OF THE LIFTING CYLINDER

Notes:
- To be able to repair the lifting cylinder, the
entire piston rod must be removed and the
oil seals must be replaced.
- Reconditioning of a lifting cylinder requires
not only the use of the reconditioning kit,
but also the reuse of a number of
components.
- Before disassembly, clean the lifting
cylinder on the outside.
- Work in a clean environment.
- A defective lifting cylinder is often caused
by leaking oil seals or a damaged piston
rod.
Never use compressed air to force
the piston rod into or out of the
lifting cylinder. This would involve
the risk of the piston moving into
or out of the lifting cylinder in an
uncontrolled manner.

Disassembling the lifting cylinder 6

Note:
Use a separate cab tilting pump to pump the
piston in and out.

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- Replace the seat-belt if the belt is worn
or damaged.
- If the seat-belts have been subjected to
a heavy load during a collision, the
entire mechanism must be replaced,
even if no damage can be observed.
- Always check the seat attachments for
any fractures or ruptures after a
collision.
- After a collision, always check whether
the seat attachment bolts have been
subjected to excessive stress.
- Do not use abrasive cleaning agents to
clean the seat-belts; these may damage
the seat-belt material.

2. GENERAL
- Seat repairs may only be carried out by
skilled personnel.
- The illustrations in this manual usually
represent the left-hand seat or the left-hand
side. Repairs are carried out in a similar
manner for the right-hand seat or right-hand
side.
- After each repair, a functional test must be
carried out; in the case of pneumatic
repairs, an air-tightness test should also be
carried out.
- Do not lean on the seat if the back rest has
been folded fully forwards.
- It is however necessary to restore the
routes of the air pipes, cables and
connections to their original positions.
- Also keep to the proper colour position
when installing the air pipes.
- Air pipes and cables must not be kinked.
- In the case of transport and storage, please
ensure that the seat is placed on its
longitudinal slides. Air pipes must not be
kinked in this case.
- After each repair, a functional test must be
carried out; in the case of pneumatic
repairs, also carry out an air-tightness test.
- Do not lean on the seat if the back rest has
been fully folded forwards.

1 PREWAX TREATMENT
65/75/85CF series Safety instructions

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General
The cab is equipped with an hydraulic tilting
mechanism. The pump is located on the
co-driver’s side at the rear of the cab. The cab
locks are opened hydraulically during pumping.
If the vehicle has been involved in a collision,
check the cab rest, cab hinges and the
lifting-cylinder foot bracket along the chassis
member for cracks before tilting.
Even after taking these steps, you should
proceed with the greatest possible caution after
a collision. If possible, suspend the cab from a
hoist and place a stand in front of the cab. Be
sure to check the inside of the lifting cylinder
thoroughly as well, and to replace it if
necessary.
When working on a tilted cab (for
example when welding,
spray-painting or applying bitumen
coatings), be sure to cover the
piston rod of the lifting cylinder.
Welding spatter and paint which
land on the piston rod will
inevitably cause damage to the oil
seal.

Inspection after a collision

After a collision, a lifting cylinder should always
be inspected for non-conformities or damage to
the suspension points of the cylinder sleeve, the
cab and chassis attachment points, and the
internal components.

10

 9906 1-1
PREWAX TREATMENT 1
Safety instructions 65/75/85CF series

After a collision, the end stop in the

lifting cylinder may be damaged, so
that the cab could shoot past its
end stop.
Be sure to protect the cab against
such an occurrence (for example by
attaching it to a hoist) and make
sure that there is no one in front of
the cab while it is being tilted.

Ensure that there is sufficient ventilation during

spraying and ML treatment.

65/75/85CF series General

2. GENERAL
Introduction
Prewax is a transparent, odourless, non-toxic
mixture of various types of wax and
corrosion-inhibiting chemicals which is
vapour-sprayed into all corrosion-sensitive
areas.
It penetrates all seams, adheres to all surfaces
and enters into chemical combination with
