“Communication is the key”.

This is a quote that is often repeated

especially in relationships and the parent-child relationship is not an
exemption. Experts say that learning how to properly praise a child can
actually help them be successful in the long run. Today, however, it is
noticeable how children struggle to meet their parents’ expectations
regarding their performance in school. This is where communication
takes place.

“I’m so proud of you for studying so hard”, is a better choice than

“I’m so proud you got an A on your test,” according to Dr. Kenneth R.
Ginsburg, an expert in adolescent medicine. This represents how the
words used by parents in communicating with their children can greatly
impact their lives. Communication is the starting point of
understanding. Saying the right words can actually help the children
understand that their parents understand what they have gone through
in order to achieve a certain goal. This boosts their self-esteem and
increases the chances of them living by the value of hard work to be
successful.

A parent who is involved in the child’s life will be more likely to

influence that child’s decisions in life until he/she becomes an adult.
The mere presence of communication between parents and their
children can actually teach them this value that they can take until they
grow up to be parents themselves. The value of communication can
branch out to other things like patience, understanding, listening,
expression, and appreciation which can certainly help them mold into
the best person that they can be, not just for themselves but also
towards other people.
Communication is a two way process. A child that is spoken to
should also be listened to. Telling them what to do and knowing how to
properly do it is NOT the end all and be all of communication. A child
should also be given the chance to speak. Parents should also highlight
the importance of letting someone express their thoughts because in
that way, the goal of communication is fulfilled. This will also make sure
that the children will grow up to be people who do not only have the
right to say but also ones who have the responsibility to listen. This is a
life skill that can most certainly help them be great individuals in the
future.
Dura lex, sed lex. “The law is harsh, but it is the law”. This is the
main principle which means that no one is above the law. It applies to
everyone equally. Try to imagine a world where man is above the law. It
would be chaotic. Laws protect our fundamental rights. A world
without it makes men slaves of their own power. Everyone would try to
take control then in the end, no one wins because there is not a law
which will state who was right and who was wrong.

Unfortunately, the rule of law is weak here in our country. Men

equate position to power then power to law. The law of check and
balance should be reiterated amongst politicians. They are there to
create and implement the law and serve as role model citizens in our
country. We should be looking up to them not because they think
highly of themselves but because they are the walking foundations of
the law. Therefore, more emphasis should be given to the fact that
they, too, are not above the law.
