Chapter I Construction Planning


1.1 Project Overview
Bosnia and Herzegovina Ulog Hydropower Station is located in the Kalinowic
region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 80km from Sarajevo, the capital of
Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the western
part of the Balkan Peninsula in southeast Europe, bordering Serbia and
Montenegro in the east and south, bordering Croatia in the north, west, and
southwest, and a very small part of the south bordering the Adriatic Sea with a
coastline of only 21 kilometers. The geographic name is Bosnia in the north
and Herzegovina in the south.
The dam site area of the Ulog project is located at the junction of the Ulog
sedimentary area of the Neretva River in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a
diversion-type power station. Two mixed-flow turbine generator units are
installed with a reference flow of 35m3 / s. With a total installed capacity of
34.44MW, the water conservancy hub is composed of buildings such as a
concrete double-curved arch dam, a small dam-type plant, and a
diversion-type ground plant.
According to the owner's instructions, the construction of the Bosnia and
Herzegovina Ulog Hydropower Project has officially started on December 20,
2020. According to the design requirements of the construction organization, a
temporary bailey bridge must be built upstream of the dam to connect the left
and right shore traffic of the project area, and the bridge is planned to be
accessible in May 2020. The bridge is a single span with a bridge span of
48.768m. The Bailey Bridge is a single lane with a clear width of 4.2m.
Bicycles pass in one direction and the driving speed is 20km / h. Service life: 5
years.
1.2 Preparation basis

Chapter III Construction Scheme


3.1 Scheme overview
There are many methods for erection of prefabricated highway steel bridges,
such as the cantilever push method, the floating rack method, the whole hole
lifting method, the on-site assembly method, and the tail frame pushing
method, etc., but generally the equipment cantilever push method is used. The
method is quick to set up, safe and reliable, does not require large lifting
equipment, and workers can undertake the erection tasks with a little training.
The so-called "cantilever push" is to install rock and roll on both sides of the
river. Most of the components of the bridge are preassembled on the rollers of
our shore, and then pulled by human or machinery to push the bridge smoothly
and slowly to the opposite shore In place after rock. When using this method to
set up bridges, special attention should be paid to: before the bridge has
reached the opposite rock, the entire bridge can be balanced throughout the
rollout process, and the center of gravity of the bridge should always fall
behind our rock Danger of tipping due to front suspension during ejection. In
order to achieve this purpose, several additional trusses need to be assembled
at the front end of the main bridge. After the bridge reaches the opposite rock,
it will be dismantled section by section. This extra length of truss is often

referred to as the "guide beam". The guide beam is not provided with a bridge
plate, and only trusses (often single-layer trusses), beams and wind-resistant
tie rods are installed.
In this case, our company combined the traditional "cantilever push-out
method", and after years of practice and summary, we improved the original
construction method and used the components of the steel bridge to recycle
the components without completing additional guide beam components. The
erection can greatly save the total cost of the project and maximize the
economic benefits.
The design load level of the construction bridge is -60t for automobiles, which
can meet the requirements of passing heavy construction machinery, large
equipment and heavy-duty vehicles. The width of the carriageway on the
bridge deck is about 4.2 meters (the total width of a general truck is 2.5
meters). The design drawings are shown in the attachment.
3.2 Level the site and measure the position.
In order to facilitate the construction work, according to the terrain and road
conditions at the construction site, the location of the stacking bridge
components, tools and the U-turn of the bridge should be planned at the bridge
head on the shore. In short, the stacking of bridge components should
minimize the distance of manual transportation during assembly and make it
most convenient.
On the other side of the river, we should make the best possible conditions to
first transport the required seat plate, rock and other equipment to the opposite
bridge head; if unconditional, when crossing the river, the seat plate and rock
can be placed on the nose bridge and shipped with the bridge landed. But
when calculating the stability of a cantilever pushed out, the mass of these
devices must be considered.
The total length of the steel bridge in this case is about 36.576m. According to
past experience, in addition to the stacking site on the side of the shore, the

assembly operation site needs about 8 * 30m, as shown below.

At the same time, the centerline, sideline and starting point of the bridge
should be measured for reference during construction.
3.3 Design of guide beam
Before formal construction, the structure of the guide beam needs to be
designed according to the specific bridge type, and corresponding calculations
must be performed to ensure safety. Under normal circumstances, the guide
beam takes half the length of the main bridge plus one section. Since the case
is a multi-span bridge, the structure of the guide beam can be determined to be
6 sections SS (single row and single layer) + 3 sections DS based on past
experience.
At the same time, when the guide beam is pushed out, due to the cantilever
flexing or the high terrain across the shore, the end of the guide beam reaches
the opposite shore and is lower than the rock, then it cannot be mounted. To
solve this problem, a special tool can be set on the lower string of the guide
beam to raise the nose frame to a certain height. As shown below

The lower chord joint is embedded between the lower chords of the two
trusses. Its front end can only use a maximum of four trusses. If the raised
height still cannot meet the requirements, an additional joint can be installed
between the four trusses.
3.4 Check the strength of guide beam
The guide beam is in a cantilever state during the early advancement process.
When the SS structure is fully extended, the guide beam is in a dangerous
state. You can check this state.
This case mainly discusses the construction plan, and the experience
calculation process is omitted.
3.5 Component assembly
a. Roller placement

There are two types of rollers: rock-roller and flat-roller. Rock-roller is set on

the push out shore and the opposite shore. Rock-roller on the push out shore
is used to push out the bridge. Rock-roller on the other side is used to seat the
bridge. The flat-roller is placed after the rock-roller on the push out shore.
In this case, no rock-roller is used, and only flat-roller is used as a guide tool.
The position of flat-roller under a single row of guide beams is as shown below.

The position of flat-roller under the double-row guide beam is as follows:

One set of flat-roller is placed every about 6m after the flat-roller is pushed out
on the push out shore. The horizontal arrangement of flat-roller is basically the
same as before.

B Installation of guide beam


According to the previous guide beam design, install the first section of guide
beam on the rock-roller and flat-roller with a fixed position. The female end of
the bailey panel faces the opposite shore. At the same time, install the first
beam at the vertical pole of the female end, and use the sleeper as a
temporary support, pad on the vertical pole of the male end, as shown below.

也为了减少后续的工作量,只在第 1、3、5、节安装横梁,如下图.
Similarly, install the second section of the guide beam and pad flat-roller on the
vertical pole of this section of mail end. In order to reduce the weight of the
guide beam and to reduce the subsequent workload, only install the
crossbeam at the first, third, fifth sections as shown below.

After installing the second section, remove the temporary support in the
middle.
Install the first 6 sections of the SS guide beam, and add a lower chord joint
between the 2nd and 3rd bailey panel. At the same time, use a temporary
windproof tie rod to tighten between the 1st and 3rd crossbeams. Pay attention
to maintain the diagonal equal, as shown below.

C Install the main bridge


After the SS guide beam is installed, the main bridge DSR1 structure is to be
installed, as shown below.

According to the design drawings, a 3-section DS beam can be installed. The


guide beams have two beams per section and are fixed with standard
wind-resistant tie rods, as shown below.

During the installation process, due to site constraints, it may be necessary to


advance from time to time. In order to ensure safety, the stability torque and
overturning moment must be calculated before each advancement to ensure
the stability and safety of the entire bridge. When the calculation results show
that the stable torque is not enough, it is necessary to add a counterweight
within the last two sections. The counterweight can be replaced by a steel
bridge deck or other materials on site.
Similarly, the main bridge of the QSR structure is installed.
d. Demolition and transfer of guide beams
After the front end guide beam reaches the opposite shore, because the
main components such as bailey panels and beams are no longer
available on the side of the push-out shore, the guide beam on the other

shore needs to be removed and transported to the side of the push-out


bank, then continue to install and advance the main bridge according to
the design structure..
The method of removing and reversing the guide beam is generally based
on the site conditions, and a specific plan should be formulated according
to local conditions, based on the principles of safety and convenient
construction.

In this case, the reversal plan is formulated according to the most unfavorable
conditions. A simple trolley is formed on the upper chord of the Bailey beam
using a walking truss, and it is pushed to the opposite shore by manpower. The
component on the opposite shore is then transported back to the push out
shore, and so on and on, to finish the reversal of all components.
The simple truss plan is as follows:

e. Drop the bridge


According to the above method, after installing the main bridge and advancing
to the design position, install the mail and femail end posts, and then use a
jack to remove the flat-rollers and sleepers at both ends and place the end
posts on the bridge seat, as shown below.

When the jack is at the lower chord of the bridge, its best position is at the
intersection of the truss chord and the web, and a thick plate is placed between
the jack and the chord to spread the pressure to the two channels of the chord.
Do not set the jack on one channel, and do not let the flange of the channel
bear the force of the jack alone. Under normal circumstances, the jack should
be seated on the pad, and the pressure of the bridge should be distributed on a
wide ground. The height of the jack and the pad should be determined
according to the descending distance of the bridge and the travel of the jack.
f. Install the bridge deck and other small components
After the bridge is dropped, the bridge deck system and horizontal support
frame are to be installed. In this case, because the bridge is too long, manual
installation is quite inconvenient. You can use a small loader to lift it and
manually assist the installation.
g. Other matters
After all the components are installed, all bolts and pins should be inspected
and tightened.
Chapter IV Measures to Ensure Quality

(1) The bridge shall be constructed in strict accordance with the design
requirements, and regularly inspect all connections and welding parts.
(2) The production of steel pipe piles must meet the design and specification
requirements, and random inspection shall be carried out in accordance with
the specifications.
(3) The deflection of steel pipe piles and sinking piles is controlled within the
design scope to ensure that the structure is reliable and to avoid conflicts with
the engineering pile position and the platform. Only after the various
components of the bridge construction are installed reliably, can they be
overloaded.
(4) After the completion of each row of steel pipe piles, the connection between
the piles should be performed immediately. The welding quality of the steel
joint braces is reliable to ensure the stability of the piles.
(5) Conduct on-site technical explanations for construction workers, and
require them to be familiar with the construction procedures and not violate
construction procedures.

Chapter V Measures to Ensure Security


(1) Establish elevation, displacement, and scouring observation system of the
bridge to promptly identify problems and report and deal with them in time.
(2) During the tide and flood, the erosion at the bridge pile must be frequently
measured. When the erosion exceeds the design requirements, sand bags
must be thrown in time for river bed maintenance.
(3) The distance between vehicles in the same direction on the bridge shall not
be less than 18m, and the speed shall not be greater than 5km / h.
(4) The bridge deck load during construction and using shall not exceed the
design load, and shall not be stacked in a large area.
(5) When a 25t car is suspended from a sunken pile on a bridge, pay attention
to the position of the cantilever, and the crane should be centered to ensure

the safety of the bridge and crane.


(6) Conduct safety training for construction workers, and require them to
master safety knowledge and not operate in violation of regulations.
(7) Construction site personnel should wear safety helmets, wear life jackets
on water operations, wear safety belts when working at heights, and workers
on special jobs must hold operating permits.
(8) The construction personnel must abide by the relevant rules and
regulations of the project department, and the construction work area must not
be playful, arguing, or wearing slippers.
(9) Strengthen the equipment management system, perform regular
maintenance and repairs in accordance with requirements, and strictly prohibit
sick work.
(10) All kinds of equipment must be operated by specialized operators, strictly
complying with the operating regulations, and all necessary operating
certificates are required. Unlicensed operations are strictly prohibited.
(11) The construction site's power consumption and point circuits (box
transformers, switch boxes, wire joints, etc.) are constructed by professional
electricians and inspected weekly.
(12) Adequate lighting should be provided for night construction, and
construction should be performed under the premise of ensuring safety.
(13) Wear cold protection clothing and take measures to prevent cold and slip
during winter construction; take measures to prevent rain during rainy season.

Chapter VI Civilization Construction and Environmental Protection


6.1 Civilization Construction
(1) Formulate comprehensive civilized construction regulations with clear
goals and responsibilities. Employees are often educated as role models for
civilized construction, and timely praise and reward are given to teams and
individuals who have done well in civilized construction. Critics and penalties

have been given to teams and teams that have performed poorly in civilized
construction in a timely manner and rectified within a time limit.
(2) Various temporary facilities at the construction site shall be constructed in
accordance with the location designated by the owner, which must be
coordinated with the surrounding environment to be economical, beautiful and
practical. The construction area has prominent safety warning signs, which are
obvious, clear and standardized.
(3) Various construction materials are arranged in a fixed location, classified,
and neatly stacked, and the various identification plates are clear, especially
the semi-finished materials and components placed on the site must not be
stacked randomly and affect the appearance.
(4) Formulate and implement specific energy management measures, improve
management methods for machinery and equipment, clarify the
implementation and implementation of the responsibility system, and ensure
that various equipment maintain good performance and utilization.
(5) Carefully planned and reasonably arranged, each process can be done "to
clear hands," so that the work is completed, the materials are clean, and the
site is cleaned.
(6) All construction personnel wear work badges, and their names, titles, and
types of work are marked on the licenses for identification and supervision by
the owner and the supervisor. Special types of workers must be certified to
work.
6.2 Environmental protection
(1) Pay attention to protecting water sources, domestic waste and excreta are
collected and transported to the designated place by the environmental
protection department for dumping, and not directly poured into rivers.
(2) The mechanical maintenance team should inspect and repair the
machinery and equipment every day to prevent the equipment from
contaminating the construction site due to oil leakage. Waste water and waste

oil are strictly prohibited to be discharged on site and must be buried after
treatment.
(3) Control the environmental pollution and harm of various dust and exhaust
gas on site.
(4) To ensure the construction site is tidy, arrange a cleaner to ensure a clean
and civilized construction environment on site.
