“HOW DO PLATES MOVE?”

ANGELU D. SANCHEZ BEED II

OBSERVATION

Our general observation in this experiment, with the materials such as

boiling water, tap water, ground pepper, styro cap, and instead of PET
bottle, we used a mug and a plastic coffee stirrer. First, we fill the mug with
water and slowly transfer the small amount of ground pepper to the surface
of the water inside the mug, and on the other side, the styro cap filled with
the boiling water and also transfer the small amount of ground pepper. After
doing so, the ground pepper at the mug after stirring it, it is still remain at
the surface of the water but you can see that the other amount of ground
pepper are soak in the water downward. On the other side, the boiling water
at the styro, after stirring with the ground pepper, the ground pepper moved.

So, how do plates move? Plates at our planet's surface move because of the
intense heat in the Earth's core that causes molten rock in the mantle layer to
move. It moves in a pattern called a convection cell that forms when warm
material rises, cools, and eventually sink down. As the cooled material sinks
down, it is warmed and rises again.
