OIL & MARINE

COMPANY BROCHURE
The Manuli Hydraulics Oil & Marine Division manufactures
and sells floating, sub-sea marine hoses and elastomeric
pipelines for commercial use.

A long history in Oil and Marine field service

Established in 1935 Manuli Rubber Industries entered the Oil & Marine sector in 1973 with
the establishment of a joint venture with Uniroyal, the pioneers of floating and submarine hose
systems as applied to single point mooring terminals that are employed extensively around the
shores of the world today.

Following the formation of this joint venture and in keeping with MRI’s commitment to the indus-
try a
modern hose production facility was established at Ascoli Piceno in Italy. Equipped to carry out
pressure, vacuum, bend, and kerosene testing all hoses manufactured in Ascoli are tested fol-
lowing the Oil Companies International Marine Forum specification 5th Edition 2009 with results
logged on the client’s test certificate.

In addition to the marine hose, Manuli Rubber Industries has also pioneered long length elasto-
meric hose as dynamic risers, seabed flowlines, conventional buoy mooring hose strings, and
many others.

In 1994 MRI developed an improved double carcass hose - the dual anti-pollution safety hose
(D.A.S.H.) - for environmentally sensitive and harsh service areas. In the same year, it launched an
advanced leak alarm system for use with the floating and submarine D.A.S.H.

Further developments include the long length elastomeric conduit system for exporting crude oil
in extended well tests offshore and rapid deployment ship-to-shore fuelling systems for the U.S.
Department of Defence and British Ministry of Defence.

More recent innovations include development of the LPG hose - second generation - compliant to
BS EN 1762 standard, plus the Poseidon, Nautilus, Saturn and Triton ranges, all approved to GM-
PHOM 2009:
■■ 2012-15 Poseidon (steel cord reinforced) and Nautilus (textile cord reinforced) single and dou-
ble carcass hoses.
■■ 2015 Saturn long length “Heavy Duty” hoses.
■■ 2019 Triton hoses with helix free construction.

All Manuli Double
Carcass hoses are provided
with a leak detection system.
When a leak occurs the fluid
that escapes from the primary
carcass triggers the FAD, which
indicates that a failure has
occurred.
The Manuli FAD consists of a
stainless steel base covered
with a clear plastic lens and
is protected by a Stainless
Steel Cage. All components are
mechanical, so no electrical
supply is required.

Ancillary Equipment Manuli also offers a wide range of ancillary equipment

aimed at ensuring the proper connection of tankers, manifolds, floating
hose configurations and submarine hose layouts.
These include chains, valves, floats, flanges and many other item

Single and Double Carcass Floating and Submarine Hose

Manuli floating and submarine hoses are available with either
single or double carcass structures, and in a wide range of
configurations and pressure ratings.
All Manuli marine hoses are manufactured and tested
according to GMPHOM 2009 rules.
Long Length Elastomeric Hoses
Exclusively made by Manuli, Long Length
hoses are bonded elastomeric conduits for
dynamic riser, jumper, flowline and medium/heavy duty
CALM buoy applications.
LONG LENGTH - ELASTOMERIC HOSES

Exlusively made by Manuli, Long Length hoses are bonded elastomeric

conduits for dynamic riser, jumper, flowline applications.

Lightweight, collapsible and kinkable, the Manuli Long Length are ideal for fuel trans-
fers applications in the commercial and military fields.

KEY FEATURES:

■■ WIDE RANGE OF CONFIGURATIONS based on sizes (4”, 6” and 8”), lengths (hundred me-
ters, limited only by logistics and transportation), pressure ranges (up to 200 BAR) and safety
factors, fluid types and transfer temperatures (up to 150°C), end terminations and mid-string
low profile snag-free connections.
■■ FAST TO DEPLOY AND RETRIEVE with minimum installation and handling equipment re-
quired in the field.
■■ KINK RECOVERABLE HOSE it recovers its original shape without any damage or permanent
deformation.
■■ HIGH ELASTICITY, when a tensile load is applied to the Manuli conduit all the layers elongate
and neck down together and then rebound uniformly when the load is removed.
■■ EXTENSIVE TRACK RECORD with hundreds of hoses in the field testifying to the quality, reli-
ability and ease-of-use of the Manuli design.
■■ COMPETITIVENESS AT COMMERCIAL ASSESSMENT when compared to similar bonded
solutions in multiple shorter sections and to unbonded flexible pipes.

ACCESSORIES FOR TURN KEY PROJECTS

To provide a comprehensive solution for turn key projects the Manuli Oil and Marine range
incorporates a wide range of accessories and ancillary equipment allowing optimal configuration
of hose strings and pipelines..
DESIGN AND FIELD SERVICES

When you partner with the Manuli you can be assured of the support you need from initial
product design through field services to whole life product monitoring.

■■ PRODUCT DESIGN
Manuli Oil and Marine offer both standard and custom
products all supported by a local R&D team offering
a full range of technical support, including: materials
development and testing, product design, stress analysis
and FEA.

■■ PRODUCT TESTING
Within our Ascoli Piceno factory we are able to perform a
wide range of product testing with equipment for: burst,
stiffness, vacuum, buoyancy and electrical testing along
with combined tensile, twist fatigue test equipment for
both empty and pressurised hoses.
Further specialist testing is available via our long-standing
relationships with international labs providing capabilities
such as Thermal conductivity, axial bending and torsion
testing.

■■ SOFTWARE SIMULATION OF SYSTEM OPERATION

Using world leading software for static and dynamic Tensile, Twist, Fatigue Test (Empty and Pr
analysis of hose systems Manuli engineers are able
to model system performance in a range of offshore
environmental scenarios to allow configuration
optimisation of both floating and submarine hose strings.
