In this lecture we will cover the sales order process flows and
configuration.
By the end of this video you will be able to :
• Described the sales order process flows
• Understand the various elements in a sales order
• Learn the various integration points between the sales order and
logistics
• Create a sales order in SAP
• Configure the sales order in SAP

Order Management

In SAP, this is managed by the order management module which has the
following types of documents
• Sales order
• Inquiry
• Quotations
• Schedule agreement
• Contracts

A sales order is an document issued by a company to it’s customer detailing


the sales of a specific product or service. In general, the document will have:
• Customer details
• Product or service being sold
• Pricing & Tax
• Delivery method and date

Order Management : Logistic

A sales order represents a request /agreement with the customer to deliver


a good or service at a particular time and location. For the logistic process,
we are concern with
• Data validation of data
• Validation of business rules for logistics
• What, where and when to deliver
• Determination of data relevant for the logistic processing.

• Loading Group = Taken from the material master

Item category determination – T184

Logic to determine the item category assigned to an item on the sales order.
• The configuration will drive the behavior of the item.
• The logic is in table T184
• Using the formula
• Sales order document type + Item category group + usage + higher item
category group = item category + manual, where
• Sales order document type is on the sales order header
• Item category group is on the material master
• Usage comes from SAP code
• Higher item category group is from the parent item

Order Validation

Checking the sales order for any issues before being passed to
logistics
This is done by either
• Delivery block on the sales order
• From the customer, document itself or material
• Customer – Transaction XD05
• Material – MM02 sales view 1
• Sales document – Configuration
• Manually placed by the user
• Enhancement for more complex business rules
• User exit MV45AFZZ at routine USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE
• Various activates can be stopped based on the type of block
being applied

Order Validation

Checking the sales order for any issues before being passed to
logistics
This is done by either
• Incomplete document
• Ensure a given field is populated
• For example, ensure that the weight and volume has been
populated.

Business case - Introduction to Widget Inc.

• Produces and sells widgets to the UK.


• Takes the orders from customers and ship them
on the same day.
• Validation on sales order – Export Customers &
Return request
• Picking and packing are done on the same day.
• Cut off time to start the logistic process is based
region.
• Customers divided into four regions and the
freight forwarder selected based on region.
• All orders are shipped from the same plant.
• There is also a parcel shipment for anything less
that 10 KG.
• Shipment are created based on the number of
delivery.
• Any shortages are managed with the customer.
• The warehouse has it’s own WM system.
