2. Objectives (What will children expect to learn?)


Children will develop knowledge to identify words in the poem that rhyme.
Students will be encouraged to look through the poem during center time, after
it has been read to them; they will be encouraged to find the rhyming words.

3. Materials and Equipment needed:


-Students will rotate through centers in groups of four.
-When students arrive to the language center, they will find their name on a
card and sit in the corresponding seat.
-Students will look through the poem together to find rhyming words.
-Rhyming words from the poem will be printed and laminated for student use.
The children will match rhyming words.

4. Teaching (What will you do?)


-Reading the book: When reading the poem, the teacher will pause to identify
any rhyming words. The poem will be read with much enthusiasm to gain the
listeners’ attention.
-Extension Activity: The teacher will model how to match rhyming words from
the poem by placing them next to each other on the table.

5. Closure:
All student attempts at matching rhyming words will be praised by the teacher.
When all members of the group have had a turn matching rhyming words from
the poem, the teacher will say, “Good Job, language center. I am proud of you.
You may move on to the science center”. Teacher will set out the next four
student name cards.
