How this campaign can support Malaysian economic growth?

This Malaysian goods purchase campaign was created to help the development of the

Malaysian economy. This campaign will also indirectly increase the positive perception of

the quality of Malaysian products produced. This campaign is an initiative in providing

awareness to Malaysians, especially in responding to the government's call to help improve

the country's economy. This campaign focuses on the brand of cooking oil or known as palm

oil produced by the production of Malaysian companies. This campaign is expected to give a

useful message to Malaysians in using Malaysian-made goods in this context the use of

Malaysian palm oil.

Generally, Malaysia is the second highest producer in the world in the oil palm

industry. Palm oil was first introduced as an ornamental plant, confident in the palm oil

potential, Henri Fauconnier has pioneered efforts to start planting commercially. This crop

has proven to be the right choice and now palm oil is the most productive crop that produces

oil to meet the world's food needs. Apart from that, Malaysia in particular has a body that

maintains the quality and standards for the production of Malaysian palm oil, namely the

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

In addition, the government has also provided many funds for the industry to work

together to improve the quality of palm oil. Funds will be provided as grants for scientific

research on improving the quality of palm oil. The palm oil industry, especially in the

upstream sector, needs skilled manpower to stay competitive with other sectors. The use of

machinery has been identified as an important strategy to increase employee productivity.

The Government also provided an Oil Palm Mechanization Fund with an initial fund of RM

30 million to facilitate research to produce oil palm plantation machinery innovations. It is

also hoped that this initiative will reduce the dependence on foreign labour in oil palm

plantations.

To generate progress for the palm oil industry, MPOB will continue its efforts to

achieve greater excellence and strengthen its direction through research and regulation for

sustainable, competitive and dynamic development in line with global developments.

Towards a lasting glory, research and development (R&D) that generates technology and

innovation will continue to be given special focus by MPOB.

Apart from that, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) recommends that consumers

in the country switch to the use of palm milk as an alternative in reducing dependence on

coconut milk, besides increasing the use of palm raw materials. Therefore, the use of oil palm

can be diversified which in turn can help the economic growth of Malaysia.

Based on the Malaysian Palm Oil Supply (CPO) in the first half of 2017 (January-

June) recorded is better than the same period in 2016 (Table 1). Meanwhile, CPO production

increased by 14.8% to 8.72 million tonnes in January-June 2017 compared to 7.59 million

tonnes in the same period 2016. The increase in CPO was due to the improvement in the

quality of fresh bunches (BTS) processed by fruit mills and palm fruit following the end of

the effects of the El-Nino phenomenon that hit the country in 2015/2016.
Therefore, it can be seen that the growth for each year is increasing for the production of

Malaysian oil palm. However, this year, the whole world is under threat of a covid-19

pandemic. Therefore, Malaysians need to be united in supporting the government's call to use

Malaysian-made goods, especially palm oil.

In conclusion, the campaign to buy Malaysian-made goods, especially in the use of

palm oil to some extent can stimulate the growth of the domestic economy by increasing the

purchase of local goods as well as helping the industry boost the activities of the affected

retail sector during the CPP period. In addition, the campaign carried out restores the

confidence of buyers and consumers to go out shopping and increase household spending

affected by the implementation of PKP. Finally, the main goal of this campaign is to increase

the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians towards goods and services made in Malaysia.

Therefore, the Malaysian economy will increase due to the use of Malaysian-made palm oil.
