Earthen dam

1. Determine the factor of safety of d/s slope during steady seepage condition of a homogeneous earth
dam with a horizontal drainage filter at its toe from the following data:
Area of N-rectangle = 14.30 cm2
Area of T-rectangle = 6.25 cm2
Area of U-rectangle = 5.15 cm2
Length of arc = 13.4cm
Scale of diagram: 1cm = 10m
Angle of internal friction = 300
Unit cohesion = 20 KN/m2
Unit weight of soil = 20.5 KN/m3

2. The following are the data for a rolled clay embankment dam:
Angle of internal friction = 300
Unit cohesion = 5 KN/m2
Unit weight of soil = 21 KN/m 3
No. of slices = 8
Width of each slice = 5m
Angle made by weight with normal = 18 0
Determine the factor of safety using Bishop method.

3. The profile of a zoned earthfill embankment founded on impervious clay is shown in fig. below.
Measured seepage is 0.1 m3/day per m length.

constructing equipotential line)
