iv
Ko is a prairie dog. He and
his family live by themselves
in a hole in the dirt.
1
They eat wheat and
insects. Ko looks at
the wheat seeds.
2
Ko is very curious. He asks himself,
where do the seeds come-from?

He thinks about it and answers, plants.

Humm? He wonders.

3
Where do the plants come-from?

Ko watches the plants for a long time.

He notices that seeds fall from
the plants and get covered with dirt.

4
Rain makes the seeds wet.
Soon tiny plants poke out
of the dirt and grow
towards the sun.
5
After months of sun and rain,
the plants grow and get flowers.

Bees come to the flowers.

6
The flowers wilt and seeds grow.

7
Soon the wheat is ready for them
to pick. Ko and family eat the
yummy seeds.

8
Ko smiles. Where do seeds come
from? They come from plants.

Where do plants come from?

Seeds!

Ko gets an idea.

9
Ko buries some seeds. He and his
family plant a lot of seeds. For
months, they care for the plants.

10
Ko and family harvest the seeds.
They eat until they are full.

They want to share the

seeds with other dirt dogs.
11
Ko wants to talk with the other dirt
dogs but there is a problem. They
are afraid to meet together because
Claws will come and eat them.

12
Ko gets an idea. He and
his family make an invention.
13
They invite other dirt
dogs over for dinner.

14
The moment the dirt dogs are
outside their holes, Claws attacks.

15
Ko and kids use their new sling to
protect themselves. Claws screams
and flies away. The dirt dogs are
safe.
16
“Hooray!” say the dirt dogs.
They feast on the seeds.

17
Ko teaches others how to plant
seeds. They become farmers.

18
The dirt dogs build their homes
near each other. They call their
city, “Dogville”.

With plenty to eat, the

number of dirt dogs increases.
They make more cities too.
19
Ko reflects how being curious
about where seeds come from,
led to building cities.
