1. List 5 any artificial satellites built in and operated by India.
2. Write down their users an impact on Human beings.

Ans- Five artificial satellites built in and operated by India are –

a) GSAT 30

GSAT 30 is an operational telecommunication satellite.

It is developed by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization).
GSAT 30 will provide advanced telecommunication services to the Indian
subcontinent
It will be used for television uplink , VSAT services , digital satellite
gathering ,DTH services and other communication services .
It is the 41st communication satellite launched by ISRO.

Launch date: 17 January 2020, 2:35 am IST

Orbit height: 35,786 km
Speed on orbit: 3.07 km/s
b)GSAT 7A

GSAT-7A is an advanced military communications satellite meant primarily for

the Indian Air Force with Indian Army .

It allows IAF to interlink different ground radar stations, ground airbase,

aircraft to aircraft Real-time Control System, Airborne early warning and control
(AWACS) aircraft such as Beriev A-50 Phalcon and DRDO AEW&CS.

The satellite enhances Network-centric warfare capabilities of the Indian Air

Force and its global operations.

The satellite is also used by Indian Army's Aviation Corps for real-time control
and communication of its aviation operations.

Launch date: 19 December 2018

Manufacturer: ISRO Satellite Centre Space Applications Centre
Launch mass: 2,250 kilograms (4,960 lb)
c) EMISAT

EMISAT is an Indian reconnaissance satellite under DRDO's project Kautilya

which is meant to provide space – based electronic intelligence or ELINT. The
spacecraft will help improve the situational awareness of the Indian armed
forces as it will provide information and location of enemy radars.

Launch date : 1 April 2019

Mission duration: Planned: 5 years

Elapsed: 1 year, 3 months, 25 days

Launch mass : 436 kg (961 lb)

d)KALPANA 1 (METSAT 1)

Kalpana 1 was the first dedicated meteorological satellite launched by Indian

Space Research organization using Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle on 12
September 2002. The satellite is three - axis stabilized and is powered by solar
panels getting up to 550 watts (0.74 hp) of power.

The satellite features a Very High Resolution scanning Radiometer (VHRR), for

three-band images (visible, infrared, and thermal infrared) with a resolution
of 2 km × 2 km (1.2 mi × 1.2 mi), and a Data Relay Transponder (DRT) payload
to provide data to weather terrestrial platforms. Its mission is to collect data
in layer of clouds, water vapour, and temperature of the atmosphere.

Kalpana-1 went out of service in mid-2018.

Launch date 12 September 2002

Launch mass 1,060 kilograms (2,340 lb)

d)MEGHA – TROPIQUES

Megha Tropiques uses a satellite mission to study the water cycle in the
tropical atmosphere in the context of climate change.

A collaborative effort between Indian Space Research organization and

French Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales Megha Tropiques was successfully
deployed into orbit by PSLV rocket in October 2011.

Megha-Tropiques is designed to understand tropical meteorological and

climatic processes, by obtaining reliable statistics on the water and energy
budget of the tropical atmosphere. Megha-Tropiques complements other data
in the current regional monsoon projects such as MAHASRI and the completed
GAME project. Megha-Tropiques also seeks to describe the evolution of major
tropical weather systems.

Launch date: 12 October 2011

Launch mass: 1,000 kilograms (2,205 lb.)
