SATELLITE IN INDIA
Introduction:

India has been actively pursuing advancements in space

technology and exploration. In recent years, the Indian Space
Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched
several satellites, each designed to serve specific purposes.
These satellites are equipped with cutting-edge technology and
components, enabling them to accomplish various scientific,
communication, and earth observation missions. This note
provides an overview of some of the notable satellites launched
by India, highlighting their key components and features.

GSAT-30:

Launched in January 2020, GSAT-30 is a communication

satellite that operates in the Ku-band frequency. It serves as a
replacement for the INSAT-4A satellite and provides a wide
range of communication services, including television
broadcasting, VSAT networks, and DTH services. The satellite
has a payload of 12 Ku-band transponders and is equipped with
a 2.5-meter deployable antenna reflector, enabling high-power
communication across India and its neighboring regions.

GSAT-31:

Launched in February 2019, GSAT-31 is another

communication satellite designed to provide continuity to the
services offered by the aging INSAT-4CR satellite. It operates
in the Ku-band frequency and offers communication coverage
over the Indian mainland and islands. GSAT-31 carries 14 Ku-
band transponders and is equipped with an antenna reflector
for efficient communication services.
EMISAT:

Launched in April 2019, EMISAT is a unique satellite

developed by ISRO in collaboration with the Defense Research
and Development Organisation (DRDO). It is primarily an
electronic intelligence satellite that aids in electromagnetic
spectrum measurement. EMISAT also carries additional
payloads, including a demonstration of satellite-to-satellite
tracking and communication. It plays a crucial role in
strengthening India's defense and surveillance capabilities.

CARTOSAT-3:

Launched in November 2019, CARTOSAT-3 is an advanced

earth observation satellite equipped with high-resolution
imaging capabilities. It features a panchromatic camera with a
resolution of 0.25 meters, making it one of the most advanced
imaging satellites in the world. CARTOSAT-3 is designed to
support various applications such as urban planning, rural
resource and infrastructure development, and coastal land use.

RISAT-2BR1:

Launched in December 2019, RISAT-2BR1 is a radar imaging

earth observation satellite. It is equipped with synthetic
aperture radar (SAR) that enables all-weather, day-and-night
imaging capabilities. RISAT-2BR1 is primarily used for
agricultural applications, disaster management, and
surveillance purposes. The satellite's SAR payload provides
high-resolution images with improved accuracy and precision.
INSAT-3DR

Feature: INSAT-3DR (Indian National Satellite) is a weather

satellite designed to provide meteorological services to India.
It carries various payloads for weather monitoring, including a
sounder, imager, and data relay transponder.

Advantage: INSAT-3DR helps in monitoring weather

systems, forecasting cyclones, and providing early warnings for
disaster management. It contributes to improved weather
forecasting and supports various applications like agriculture,
aviation, and hydrology.

Highlight: One of the significant highlights of INSAT-3DR is

its improved imaging capabilities, allowing it to capture
weather patterns and cloud movements with high precision.

Accessing Methods: The data and imagery from INSAT-

3DR are typically accessed by meteorological agencies and
organizations involved in weather forecasting and disaster
management.
GSAT-11

Feature: GSAT-11 (Geostationary Satellite) is a

communication satellite designed to provide high-bandwidth
connectivity services. It carries Ka/Ku-band transponders for
communication purposes.

Advantage: GSAT-11 enables high-speed internet

connectivity in rural and remote areas, supporting e-
governance applications, telemedicine, and distance
education. It improves communication infrastructure in
underserved regions.

Highlight: The significant highlight of GSAT-11 is its high

data rate transmission capacity, which allows for fast and
reliable communication services.

Accessing Methods: GSAT-11 facilitates communication

services provided by telecommunication service providers and
government agencies, which offer internet connectivity and
other related services.
CARTOSAT-3

Feature: CARTOSAT-3 is an advanced Earth observation

satellite equipped with high-resolution imaging payloads. It
can capture images with a resolution of less than 1 meter.

Advantage: CARTOSAT-3 aids in detailed mapping, urban

planning, and land information system development. It
supports disaster management, infrastructure planning, and
resource management.

Highlight: The highlight of CARTOSAT-3 is its high-

resolution imaging capability, allowing for accurate and
detailed mapping of the Earth's surface.

Accessing Methods: The imagery and data from

CARTOSAT-3 are typically accessed by government agencies,
mapping and surveying organizations, and scientific
institutions.
EMISAT
