Vedanta Zinc International – headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa is a grouping of
zinc assets located in South Arica, Namibia, Ireland, owned by India based Vedanta Limited,
a listed subsidiary of Vedanta Resources Plc. It is one the largest private sector employers in
the Northern Cape, employing around 1,500 people at the current operations at BMM, and
a further 1,500 people at the Gamsberg Project (employees and business partner
employees). Around 1,900 people are employed at Skorpion Zinc. Around 80% of BMM’s
employees are from the Northern Cape, including 60% from the Namaqua district (Khai-Ma
and Nama Khoi municipal areas). In 2015, 12 new local businesses were created and
commercial opportunities to the value of R7.1 million were provided.. Black Mining and
milling at the Lisheen Mine in Ireland was concluded in December 2015 after 17 years of
operation and the mine is currently in an active closure mode. VZI’s vision is to create an
integrated world-class regional zinc complex comprising the BMM (including Gamsberg) and
the Skorpion Zinc mining and refining operations.

Organizational Design

Vedanata Zinc follows a functional organizational structure where the CEO is being observed
by the board of directors and under the CEO there are divisional heads of all the functions
that are present there in the company. Managers of all the four functions reports directly to
the CEO of the company. Under the functional managers there are supervisors and lineman
who takes care of the operations at the ground level and other subfunctions in each
functional unit of the company. It supports the company in smooth functioning and ensures
smooth flow of information from the top level of management to each employee of the
organization. Operational excellence is the core of Vedanta Zinc and it takes immense pride
in the growth it has achieved over the years.

Organizational Culture

At Vedanta, they understand that every individual employee contributes a significant portion
of their life towards the growth and stability of the company. So they ensure that they give
back as much as we can to try and enrich their lives in return. Organizational culture of
Vedanta Zinc is a hybrid one in which the whole organization follows the hierarchical
structure where keeping the organization function smoothly is of utmost importance. Formal
rules and policies help in keeping the organization together. The long term goals of
sustainability, stability and results drive the organization. Processes are improvised
constantly and the people are supposed to work in align with these processes. Whereas, in
each team there is a clan like structure people are friendly and they have a lot in common.
The groups promote the belief of teamwork, participation and success of development of
every member of the group. People are committed towards the common goal and long
lasting partnerships. Informal relations are also present in the particular groups.

Risk Management

Being a worldwide natural resources company, they are exposed to a variety of risk and
perils. Henceforth it becomes imperative to have a good risk management framework in
place to combat them and managing the risk & reward for the stakeholders of the company.
The audit committee is being assisted by the GRMC & EXCO. The Group Risk Management
Committee (GRMC) meets each quarter and contains the Group Chief Executive Official,
Group Chief Financial Officer, Non-Executive Director and Director Management Assurance.
The Group Head-Health, Safety, Environment and Maintain ability is welcome to go to these
gatherings. GRMC talks about key occasions affecting the risk profile, alarming dangers also,
vulnerabilities, rising dangers and progress against preplanned activities

discover mineral and oil deposits in a safe and responsible way, to replenish the resources
that support our future growth. Moreover, continued focus on world-class ESG performance
we operate as a responsible business, focusing on achieving ‘zero harm, zero discharge & zero
wastage’, and so minimizing our environmental impact. We promote social inclusion across
our operations to promote inclusive growth. We put management systems and processes in
place to ensure our operations create sustainable value for all our stakeholders. Sustainable
development is at the core of the company and it takes every possible step to achieve it by
optimizing the usage of resources and allocating them to minimize the wastage of resources.
