Pond Water
Let us kill time together
On our bench at the bottom
Of the ocean
Drown out the rasp of leaves breathing
Across old streets
Drift with the denizens of the deep

Leaves crack the asphalt and settle

On the sill of my window
My window flaked with splinters
Found floating in the sleeping ocean
That used to slow the motion
Of these old stained streets
Where the rhythm of leather
Breathed life into weathered men
Where tears turned dust into mud
And gold into blood

Those moments pass like strangers in cars.

For a moment

Thunder burns behind my eyes

Time will evaporate with the rain
Candy Land Sophia Gotham
‘Till you and I are left dying like dry worms
Writhing on the sidewalk

But the sidewalk cracks my feet

So we take a seat
On our little splintered park bench
Bare trees bud with green and then
We sink into the ocean again.
