Silica Standard Calibration Curve

 01/05/19 DS
Preparation of standard solution using 47.3 mg for 10ppm solution
High Range reading about 15ppm
Treat solution as 10ppm and dilute to 1ppm and corresponding
concentration as desired
Test silica using Ma’am Glen Method
Testing of standard is in ppm of the solution. Plot the known standard
concentration and result of testing. Resulting regression coeff 0.9998
*From ppm get the absorbance of samples -

 01/09/19 NS
Testing for boiler water quality and P1 demin tank, CEDI common outlet
Yield results within acceptable range

 01/11/19 AS
Testing of demin tank
Results are about 29-30 ppb
*Might be cause of not fresh HCl

 01/15/19 – 01/19/19 (Start of Afternoon shift)

Freshly prepared HCl (1st, 3rd, 5th day) 40mL prep
Results > 20 for all samples (demin, boiler water, CEDI, demin milliQ)
2nd day Results increased values for all 25-40
Counter for silica results 15, 23, 15, 15
Possible reasons of increase: MilliQ demin contaminated

 01/18/19 NS
Standard preparation for 10ppm (as per weight), 15.8 ppm (HR)
Treated as 15ppm diluted to 1ppm (HR reading 1.7 ppm)
Treated as 1ppm make corresponding solution
Use single wavelength 815nm get absorbance
Input value for a new program and generate an equation for Abs dependent.
R2 0.9964
Testing for boiler water, CEDI using new program results to negative results
*Exclusion of 500ppb and 1000ppb form eqn R2 0.9944

If treated as 10ppm (original solution) and consequent changes to other

diluted concentrations, testing will not be valid as the smallest std conc have
higher Abs than testing samples

If treated as 15ppm (original solution) and diluted using 1.7ppm, testing will
not be valid since two almost same concentrations have a large gap in their
resulting absorbance
01/18/19 AS
 Testing of samples using 100 mL for testing 3 methods (single wavelength,
Mam Glen, and new program
Abs in single wavelength and in other programs almost similar
Exclude single wavelength for next testing

01/19/19 AS
10ppm standard prep, get HR
From HR dilute to 1ppm and consequent standards (300 highest, 10 lowest)
Get absorbance input results in new program
Test using 3 methods, mam glen, new and latest
Check for any differences
