Consultants are required to offer their services in a professional manner and exercise their
entails acknowledging the multi-cultural differences among members of the various groups of
people that require the services of consultants. The failure to consider the differences brought on
by varying cultures inhibits the effectiveness of the consulting process (Dixon, M. A., &
Dougherty, D. S. 2010). This is because of the reduced levels of understanding coupled with
increased frustrations that render the process content rather than process oriented.
The consultation process comprises of four different stages with each one having its own
distinct phases. Variations in the stages is brought on by the ethical and multi-cultural
considerations that are required to ensure that the consulting process will be successful
(Dougherty, A. M. 2013). During each stage of the consulting process, it is paramount that
ethical considerations together with multi-cultural sensitivity are maintained from the start to the
end.
The first stage, that is, the entry stage comprises of the creation of contracts and
exploitation of the needs of the organization or individual. This stage is also synonymous with
the psychological and physical entry phase of the consulting process (Dixon, M. A., &
Dougherty, D. S. 2010). Upon the conclusion of the entry stage, the diagnosis stage follows and
it is during this stage that reliable and relevant information is gathered. The collection of data
should be done in a manner that does not infringe an individual’s state of being from an ethical
and cultural stance (Remley, T., & Herlihy, B. 2010). The problem is also articulated at this stage
and the initial stages of the formulation of intervention activities and planning commence
(Dixon, M. A., & Dougherty, D. S. 2010). The implementation stage represents the 3rd
consultation stage and this is where the intervention plan is employed by the stakeholders after

carefully formulating a strategy and a plan. The final stage is the disengagement stage where
evaluation of the entire consultation process takes place. The review of the entire process allows

This means that acknowledgement of multicultural differences allows for improved service
provision that is tailored to the group or individual receiving the service (Remley, T., & Herlihy,
B. 2010). It is paramount to ensure that at all times during the consulting stages, consultants must
