Erin Meyer’s navigating the Cultural Minefield provide basic knowledge about diversity

of the culture. Meyer ascertain that cultural features should be grouped as they associate with

each other in different levels. In this way, one is able to understand how different cultures

functions in relation each other (Meyer, E. 2014). Culture therefore describes distinctive features

that a particular group has and these features makes the group unique from other groups.

However, comparison between two or more cultures needs definition and operationalization of

units of culture. At lower level of magnification, comparison is achieved by comparing two

cultural units. At higher magnification comparison is done within the subjects. Meyer established

eight techniques for measuring cultural diversity, which comprise of: Communicating,

Evaluating, Persuading, Leading, Deciding, Trusting, Disagreeing, and Scheduling.

After assessing process my cultural profile is low context communicating scale. This is

because am always fascinated by precise simple and explicit communication. My other cultural

profile is trusting that is build based on task accomplishment (Meyer, E. 2014). Assessment was

based on the communication methods and skills, writing and reading skills, task completion, and

feedback responses with an aim of determining how my cultural preferences affect my cross

cultural relationship.

The dimension that seemed most like me is trusting while the one that does not seem like

me is disagreeing. Trusting dimension seems more like me because I believe in trust built

through success business related activities and events. Building trust is more practical because if

things go well as planned, trustworthy between me and my colleagues increases. But if the

unexpected results or events occur trustworthy automatically goes down. On the other hand

disagreement style do not seem to favor me because confronting somebody either publicly or

privately can damage personal relationship with my friends or colleagues. This is because

disagreement may create conflicts as many people don’t like being confronted. Additionally

some may deny to have committed action that led to confrontation bringing trustworthy issues.

Best on my findings, I would choose to appreciate the existence of cultural diversity

social environments as well as in working environments (Price, D. (010). This would enable me

to learn how to relate with different kinds of people as well as understand their culture as well.

This will in turn minimize the challenges associated with cultural diversity. Additionally I will

foster encourage understanding and the use of different cultural measurement dimensions to help

people understand how to relate with different cultures. Through my knowledge of different

cultures I will make necessary changes and adjustment in my cultural preferences to become

effective leader in real-world environment. This is because diverse cross-cultural communication

can have negative impact in our leadership leading to misunderstanding each other.

Employee inclusivity in any company is essential as it allows workers from different

cultures to work together and develop ideas that can transform the company towards success.

One way is educating leaders whereby managers are given opportunity to learn how to manage

diverse groups in a better way (Chang, S. J. 2010). Creating an inclusion council comprising of

people from diverse groups would helped in channeling communication between the leaders and

other employees. Inclusivity could also be achieved by celebrating employee differences within

an organization this could be achieved through encouraging them to share their traditions and

cultures in the work environment. This will show respect and recognition to them.
