Manners Around

the World
Intercultural Project Level 2
CONTRASTING CULTURES:
MIND YOUR MANNERS!

OBJECTIVE: Explore and compare our own cultural

identity bearing in mind manners in different Colombian
regions and manners from other countries.

DESCRIPTION: The idea of this project is to connect and

compare our traditions and manners with other countries
around the world. Through videos and a short article, the
project pretends to engage students in learning English by
contrasting different cultures regarding our manners. To do
that, the following steps are proposed:
STAGE 1
1. Make notes about manners (a socially acceptable way of
behaving) in a country with huge contrasts. For example:
United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Nepal,
England, etc. You’ll find this information online or you can
also find information in this video and this video.

2. Look for relevant and interesting information about

manners in different regions of Colombia. You can also visit
the website: A guide to Colombia – etiquette, customs,
clothing and more…

Product Stage 1:
Video: A five minutes video of the students about the Top ten
etiquette rules from Colombia.
VIDEO
• Imagine you are a tourist guide and a youtuber. In your
channel you have to design the top Ten Etiquette rules
when traveling to Colombia. Use this video and this
video as examples.

• For this purpose, you must record a video in which you

describe 10 behavioral aspects tourists have to
consider when they visit our country.

• You may use some supporting visual aids such as

videos or photographs in the context, however you
must always appear in the camera and you should
explain each one of the etiquette rules. VOICE OFF IS
NOT AN OPTION.
VIDEO
• Remember this activity aims to assess your speaking
skills, not the reading ones, so make sure you prepare
what you are about to say and don’t use extra help.
The video must be 5 minutes long.
• Upload your video to YouTube in PUBLIC mode.
Recommended Tool
• You can use the following Chrome extension Loom to
tape your video. Watch this video tutorial so you can
learn how to use it.

You can always use any other tool you have at hand.
Once the video is online, you only need to post the URL
on the task.
