6.0 PROCEDURE / METHOD TO BE EMPLOYED:

The complete system consisting of:

Ø Poker Vibrator
Ø Surface Vibrator Length 5.2M
Ø Vacuum Pump
Ø Vacuum mat consist of:
Ø Top Cover 5 x maximum 6M
Ø 6 Nos. Filter Pads
Ø Control Board 2M
Ø Skimfloater (Powerfloat) fitted with planning disc
Ø Skimfloater (Powerfloat) fitted with 4 trowelling blades

• Concrete mix shall be without plasticizer (with MSRP cement) and minimum pump able
slump. Revised mix design shall be approved before the casting can commence.
• Screed rails shall be designed properly, rigidly fixed and stable, and leveled for the
surface vibration. The beam between the screed rails shall have tensioning wire that
controls the straightening of the beam so that the surface will be even with a tolerance of
3mm which will be measured with a 3m straight edge. Adequate concrete cover blocks
shall be placed below the mesh to prevent sagging. Top rebar cover shall be 40mm.
Screed rails consisting of 100x75mm white wood and 75x75mm angle shall be straight
with a flatness tolerance of +/- 3mm per bay. The flatness shall be checked after every
pour and suitable remedies/replacement to be done if the rails are damaged. Holes shall
be made in timber side forms for dowels.
• Concrete shall be placed within 1 hour of batching and distributed evenly as near to the
final level as possible. It shall then be poker - vibrated especially close to the form and
stop ends.
• Surface vibration shall then start as soon as enough concrete is poured. The speed of the
surface vibrator shall be approximately 1 meter/minute and two passes shall be done.
• Soon after the concrete area is surface vibrated, the filter pads and the top cover are to be
placed on the concrete surface and connected to the vacuum pump. Vacuum mat shall
take about 25 minutes to compact the proposed 5m x 6m panel at a rate of 1.5 min/cm
thickness of concrete. Dewatering shall be done to an approximate amount of 15% of the
total water content in the mix. As the Dewatering is completed the subsequent panel shall
be ready to take the vacuum mat for dewatering.
• The gauge fitted on the pump shall be showing 75 to 80% suction during the dewatering
process. Flatness control and adjustment shall be performed with the TR rake
immediately after the removal of the vacuum mats.
• If at all the mat is punctured by any means it shall be repaired in the same manner as
fixing a puncture on a vehicle tire.

• The filter mat under the suction mat shall sieve about 10000 to 30000 m2 area of
concrete and it has to be cleaned with a spray of water whenever the process is stopped
for more that 2 hours. The beam resting on the rails shall also be cleaned with
pressurized water quite often. Filter mats shall be replaced if torn or rendered unusable
or if clogged with set concrete.
• Once the operation control and the adjustment are done the concrete surface is to be
floated with the skim floater fitted with a disc. The floating improves the wear resistance
and density of the surface.
• Trowelling is carried out with a skim floater with 4 trowelling blades. At least 2 passes
are required and shall be done with the blades adjusted for minimum angle initially and
successive passes shall have marginally increased angles to obtain a hard concrete
surface.
• Concrete shall then be protected from drying by covering the surface with wet Hessian
cloth and maintained for 12 hours. Subsequently, the transverse joints shall be cut (at
required positions) with a pavement cutter by a skilled operator.
• The concreted floor slab shall be opened to Pedestrian traffic soon after the curing period
of seven days with full wet conditions is completed.
• Ambient temperature should not be more than 40 oC while concreting.
• Isolation joints and details shall be maintained in the position shown in the drawings.
• After de -shuttering the concrete panel edge shall be checked for straightness and any
bulge or deviation from the line shall be rectified before the infill concrete panels are
cast.
• After the curing for an entire block is completed the longitudinal joints shall be cut along
the actual construction joint (which will be apparent by the visible crack at the joint).
• Polysulphide sealant shall be poured/injected into all transverse, longitudinal and
isolation joints as soon as practically possible thereafter and as per the manufacturer’s
recommendations.
