GROUTING

1. SCOPE
The scope of this method statement is to describe in detail a construction
methodology for civil works associated with grouting works. Identification of
associated hazards and mitigation methods to be taken in order to execute all
works safely as per project requirements and specification.

4 RESPONSIBILITES
4.1 The Construction Supervisor
• Construction Supervisor is required to ensure that all works are carried out as
per approved drawings, project specifications & requirements.
• Construction Supervisor will ensure that the work is covered with valid work
permits from QP, wherever applicable, and all permit / safety requirements are
strictly followed.
• Conduct tool box talks explaining the hazards associated with the work and the
mitigation measures.
4.2 The Civil QC Inspector (QCIC)
• QCIC will ensure that all activities that are required to be inspected have been
inspected and approved by QP.

• Accompany the company representative while carrying out inspections and


release of hold points.
• Issue CAR, When and Where required, and ensure that construction provide &
implement the corrective action.
4.3 The Safety Officer
• Safety officer will ensure that the work is covered with valid work permits from
government agencies QP, wherever applicable, and all permit & safety
requirements strictly followed.
• Safety officer will ensure that tool box talks are carried at all work locations, as
per HSE Plan.
• Safety officer will ensure that work locations are appropriately barricaded and
safety signs are provided.
• Any unsafe act or condition will be immediately stopped and reported to the
HSE Manager & Constructive Supervisor

5 HEALTH AND SAFETY ENVIRONMENT


• Prior to commencement of any work on site, work permits from Dukhan (DK),
wherever applicable, will be obtained and available on site at all times.
• Mitigation measures identified in the JHA, will be in place, prior to commence -
ment with installation works on site.
• Safety toolbox talks will be carried at all work locations, as per contractors
approved HSE Plan.
• Equipment check list shall be available for all equipment and shall be used daily
to ensure the safety and adequacy of the equipment for the work.
• Worksite supervisor will be available on site at all times. Also qualified first aider
will be available on site at all times.
• HSE inspector will monitor on site personnel during all construction activities.
• Appropriate PPE will be worn by all workers at all times. Also mobile phones will
not be used within live stations.
• Good housekeeping will be maintained at all work locations, at all times.
• Adequate tents/Shelters, first aid box, sufficient supply of drinking water and
salt tablets will be made available at all work location, at all times, to control the
movement of vehicle & Traffic.

• All access /exit points to work areas will be ensured free from any obstacles,
materials and equipment.
• Platforms, walkways and pedestrian crossovers will be of sufficient width 60 cm
minimum with handrails and toe boards.
• All work will be stopped in case of any incident and immediately reported to the
HSE Manager, Project Manager, Construction Manager and QP representative.
Work shall proceed only after investigation & corrective actions are in place and
approved by QP to proceed further.
• HSE Manager shall conduct periodical audits and report to the project manager
for corrective actions.
6 GROUTING
• Clearance shall be secured from the responsible discipline (ie. mechanical
and Electrical) prior to carry out the grouting.
• The substrate surface must be free from oil, grease or any loosely
adherent material.
• Cement based proprietary non-shrink grout shall be used for filling
space under base plate of steel columns and static equipment’s. The
minimum thickness of grout shall be 25mm, unless otherwise specified.
• If the concrete surface is defective or has laitance, it must be cut back
to a sound base.
• All the areas to receive the grout shall be scrambled/chipped prior to
carry out the formwork.
• Installation of shims pads for grouting and pads shall be machined and
galvanized accordingly.
• Bolt holes and fixing pockets must be blown clean of any dirt or debris
Install perimeter formworks around the base plate accordingly.
• The forms shall be sealed all around to prevent any leakage of grout.
Forms will be removed only after sufficient set of grout has been
attained.
• For a minimum of 2 hours prior to grouting, the area of cleaned
substrate should be flooded with fresh water. Water used for grouting
shall be less than 20*C .
• Trial samples for the batches of the grout shall be made and tested
under QP witness. Upon satisfactory results only the grouting shall
proceed.
• Mixing and pouring shall be in accordance to manufacturer’s
instructions. Also curing and loading on the grout as per manufacturers
recommendations.
