Read the following sentences. Take note of the underlined words.

1. Our family grows mango trees.


2. It is a five hour travel.
3. I really like visiting aunts.
4. Beware of big ants when you climb.

7. Sometimes, we just wade by the sea.
8. It is really good to see them all.

Which words sound alike? Do they mean the same?

These words are called homophones. They are words that sound alike, but they differ meaning
and spelling.

See the examples:

The word our is an adjective, while hour is a measure of time.

The word aunts means the sisters of your mother or father, while the word ants are kind of
crawling insect.

The word board means to ride a vehicle, while bored means nothing is interesting.
