POSSESSIVES PRONOUNS

Los possessive pronouns son un tipo de pronombres (palabra que sustituye a un nombre o sustantivo) que
indican posesión, es decir, a quién pertenece algo. En español lo podemos traducir como mío, tuyo, suyo,
míos tuyos, suyos, etc.

EXAMPLES:

1. Mary has a dog. ------> .The dog is hers.


Maria tiene un perro. ------> .El perro es de ella.

2. This is my book, yours is there.


Este es mi libro, el tuyo esta alli.

IMPORTANT: Al designar a una o varias personas de entre un grupo, podemos utilizar la siguiente estructura:

Sujeto + of + pronombre posesivo

EXAMPLES:

1. A friend of hers is a dentist.


Un amigo suyo (de ella) es dentista.
2. Some pupils of mine were ill yesterday.
Ayer Algunos de mis alumnos estaban enfermos

IMPORTANT: Cuando utilizamos un possessive pronoun en español es muy habitual poner el artículo
el/la/los/las (THE) Sin embargo en inglés nunca se les pone el artículo:

EXAMPLES:

1. This is not my jacket. Mine is black.


Esta no es mi chaqueta. La mía es negra.
2. These are my toys. Yours are in the box.
Estos son mis juguetes. Los tuyos están en la caja.
