Aim
The purpose of this lab is to determine the content cloth of soil that is inside the
given amount of soil from the field.

Introduction
Moisture content is the amount of water found in a wet sample of a product like
wood, soil or comparable. Moisture content can be expressed on wet or dry basis.
It is expressed in the percentage. The moisture content within the soil is to be
determined the usage of easy test.

Apparatus
 Can
 Scale
 Oven
 Desiccator

CALCULATIONS
 Calculation of the mass of the moisture.
MB-MC

SANDY SOIL
K2 = 85.4 - 65.47 = 19.93g
B4 = 114.78 – 83.97 = 30.81g
C7 = 106.57 – 75.27 = 31.30g

CLAY SOIL
A6 = 78.49 – 53.71 = 24.78g
F5 = 84.77 – 59.60 = 25.17g
I10 = 74.79 – 53.11 = 21.68g

 Calculation of the mass of dry soil.

MC - MA

SANDY SOIL
K2 = 65.47 – 18.07 = 47.4g
B4 = 83.97 – 17.64 = 66.33g
C7 = 75.27 – 17.44 = 57.83g

CLAY SOIL

A6 = 53.71 – 17.32 = 36.39g
F5 = 59.60 – 17.36 = 42.24g
I10 = 53.11 – 17.54 = 35.57g

 Calculation of the moisture content percentage.

MB – MC x 100

SANDY SOIL
K2 = 19.93 x 100 = 42.05%
47.4
B4 = 30.81 x 100 = 46.45%
66.33
C7 = 31.30 x 100 = 54.12%
57.83

CLAY SOIL
A6 = 24.79 x 100 = 68.09%
36.39

F5 = 25.17 x 100 = 59.59%

Discussion
Currently, many moisture evaluation methods are to be had for business reason.
However, for this technical assessment, the method used turned into oven drying
method, the moisture content was determined through weighing the pattern
earlier than and after drying and determining the difference as shown beneath.

Mass of moisture = MB-MC Mass of dry = MB - MC

Lastly, moisture content percentage is calculated by dividing mass of moisture

and mass of dry soil and multiplied by 100 as shown in the calculation section:

MB – MC x 100
MC – MA

Conclusion

Page 1
To conclude, after the completion of this lab we have found the percentage/ratio
of water present within the soil.
